  • While still at Whitney Avenue Station, which is quarters for New Haven Fire Department Engine 8 and Squad 1 (soon to be Rescue 1), we hear the 1800 tone test for the city. As soon as the tone test is complete, we hear the EMS tones go off, as Engine 8 gets a run for an EMS call at 42 Bishop Street for a welfare check. Welfare checks are usually made when an elderly or ill person is living alone, and someone who tries to contact them is unable to contact them. The person was checked on by the engine and was fine, so the engine returned within about 5 minutes. Engine 8 is a 1998 Pierce Quantum. Once the engine went out, I went for a walk around their brand new Rescue 1, which is a 2017 Seagrave Attacker with a walk-in body. Enjoy the view of the run and the Rescue, as well as the tone test and tones and the Q2B siren. If you have any questions about the video, feel free to message me. Comments are welcome. The video was taken on November 11th, 2019.

      Yes they do and they currently have two new seagraves Engine 10 & Engine 15, Engine 4 which is also getting a seagrave but theirs had to be halted in production cause of Rona, New Haven has many pierces and one Kenworth, but they want to switch over to seagraves. They have 4 seagraves 2 are demos for E10 & E15, T2 & T4, and R1 are all seagraves the rest are Pierce, but T1 is a Sutphen.

    Where I'm from in upstate NY, all the city departments have red trucks and the volunteers have white or bright lime green. I imagine it has something to do with road conditions.

    "Surprise run for Engine 8" Aren't they all surprises? That would really save lives and property if you knew in advance of the incident. 😜

    Interesting to see a Pierce”Quantum” w/ non hydraulic steps. I wonder if those are still optional as they really standout and make the “ Quantum” so cool!!

      That s because the fold down steps have issues in construction zones were K rail is used to make what are called cattle chutes. Steps don t have enough room to come down

    • @franklewis6943
      @franklewis6943 4 года назад

      I know you're being facetious but, no. For starters, New Haven's is a 27ft. Rescue1 (manufacturer; the same company builds PL Customs ambulances) walk-in box on a Seagrave Attacker chassis, whereas FDNY rescues are all 26ft. Ferrara walk-in boxes on their Ultra chassis. Sure, they look similar but I'm sure if you put either company on the other's rig there's be alot of head scratching and colorful language about the layout. After all, we're talking about a rectangle with a bunch of compartments built in it. How different can one builder's rectangle be than any others'? It's what's inside those compartments and how it's arranged to make the firefighter's job easier that makes every rig unique.

      @@franklewis6943 I wasnt being facetious at all... I was asking because I happen to LOVE R1 and thought it was pretty awesome for a department to have a rig even close.

    • @franklewis6943
      @franklewis6943 4 года назад

      @@j.p.cedeno2917 In that case, check out Huntingtown (MD) VFD's Squad 6, Toms River (NJ) FCo's Rescue 2624, DeKalb County (GA) FD's Rescue 24, and North Charleston (SC) FD's Rescue 201--all Pierce Arrow XT walk-ins very similar to FDNY's old Res1cue. Or, if you're curious what one might've looked like had FDNY gone with KME rescues to match their new pumpers, Boston and Atlanta both run rescues similar to FDNY, or take a look at Friendship (PA) FCo's Res7cue. Ronks (PA) Fire Company and Ulster (NY) Fire District #5 both run Seagrave Attackers like New Haven's. And two of my personal favs, from Spartan ERV, are West Seneca (NY) Hose Co. 5's Res5cue and North Bellmore (NY) FD's Res3cue--love that super-short Gladiator 2-door cab. All are nice rigs, as are FDNY's Ferraras. Enjoy.
