@@aaronmichael7116 I see nothing wrong with that and it's likely saving them a lot of money on the long run while they get the right food to suit their needs. It's also a nice mental break for the fire fighting crew. I see them every single evening at my local supermarket and when they get a call they drop all their shopping and the store clerks are more than happy to hold all their groceries until they return. I even noticed the super market manager occasionally ringing the groceries through and paying the cost himself out of pocket because he was so happy for their work.
To everyone complaining about the response time out the door. Every city has multiple stations and if they don't they will request mutual aid from a neighboring city or town. In Chicago that's no needed as there are plenty of stations to cover the city. THE station that Aerial Tower 1 is in wasn't the first due in, another station was and they respond accordingly on who's first due and all that. They will dispatch more companies if the alarms go up. It's Chicago's way of keeping the city covered even with a high rise fire. It's a a box alarm system with a specific number of units per alarm. It's not that complicated
+Josh W interesting note about mutual aide, although don't know about Chicago, in Philadelphia they will not call mutual aid except on interstate bridges, water rescue assignments, and incidents that are on the border of another city. Philadelphia does not care if response times are too long, they will never call an outside agency even if the outside agency is 20 minutes closer than their own unit responding.

@ Alan Clarke. North American fire trucks are obviously designed differently so it's not always safe to drive too fast especially when these trucks are a lot bigger and heavier in weight. Also braking in high speeds with these trucks is not always easy due to the heavy weight in the back.
You'll jack knife if you brake hard on that truck. The lower speed is for safety, not just on america trucks but any heavyweight fire apparatus no matter what country you're in.
CXFireRescue you always drive towers differently than engines or rescues. We took classes and driving tests when I was in, just to be able to drive the towers.
Wowee action packed video! Quite a fascinating ride along, navigating the traffic and joining that other ladder. Fantastic drivers as always. Then of course arriving onscene and catching many units arriving - really cool seeing that convoy of 3 EMS Ambulances. Hope everyone was alright. Did I hear at one point an elderly man was being evacuated? Well filmed mate, well filmed.
Great video and the operators of both the engine company and truck company did a great job of responding code 3 and safely moving through all the traffic. “ that’s what we do”.
I think that the Aerial Tower has an aerial ladder with a pre-piped waterway, where as a normal truck only has the aerial and no waterway. Platform is of course a platform.
Actually, the initial dispatch to 1000 N. Lake Shore Drive would have been: E98, E42, E13, E4, T3, T6, TL10, B1, B3, B5, SQ1 and 271. The companies shown at 1:52 are all the companies and units assigned on the box.

great video of this ride along in this ladder truck Areal tower ! with engine ! in front to this fire nice catch too catching ladder 28 and all the EMTS that came to the rescue too with the police
Aerial tower has a pre-piped water way all other trucks have regular 100' ladder. there used to be an Aerial Tower 3, it was wrecked & now they are just Truck 3.
Question for the guys over in Chicago, an EMS plan gets more ambulances, but at what stage would they request this? In this instance does it mean multiple casualties or is it just covering the bases? In any case this is quite an impressive response from the Chicago FD.
Not sure if you already got an answer... A still alarm in a high-rise brings 4 engines & 4 trucks, the squad, command van 2 ambulances & several chiefs, if there is a fire it goes to the next alarm, still & box, 4 more engines & trucks it also goes to an EMS Plan 1: 4 more ambulances, the plan is automatic w/ the still & box, this is only on high-rise incidents
I can hear the wind blowing , that must be why they call it the windy City , thanks for the ride along Chicago Fire Department !! Good Job & Stay Safe !!! 👍😃🚒🚑
+VFVFCo68 there are many different sirens and manufacturers. Definitely not all sirens are controlled with foot pedal. Generally only Q sirens are. And for 1Argon's question, yes it's random. May depend on whoever made the siren, but the siren pitch doesn't correspond to the truck.
Toby Cameron though a real Q is how a traditional fire truck sounds. EQ makes the trucks in my opinion less traditional fire trucks. Wish it was a US law to have a real Q on your fire trucks. If the people don’t like the amount they use, tough tomatoes. More Q and horn the better.
The one high rise fire in city was such a big response that our village fire dept.(Forest Park) responded with the ladder truck(403) to cover a station on west side for like 10 hrs
It is so sad to see most of the drivers will not pull over for our first response people. I hope they’re not going to your mom’s house.if you want to see the correct drivers you can you tube Roberto gatti. Italian fire response. What a difference in the way we can respect the people who will come to a house that is on fire and go inside to help people who they have never met before ❤
Cui finesse standpipe. Engine pumps water through the pipes up to the floor below the fire. Then they can stretch the line up the stairs. Sometimes the same floor as the fire if the building is big.
Hey guys, I´m come from Germany and I´m a German firefighter. I have one question: Why the lights of the firetrucks and rescuecars are all red and white and yellow and the police are blue??? In Germany all lights are blue :D
Those are the colors used in North America... Red / Green is a fire truck or Ambulance... Blue is a Police Vehicle Green is probably some sort of special service Amber / Orange / White are tow trucks and other maintnence vehicles
Schwummiwumi It depends where you are. The Chicago area uses red lights. The green lights on the right side of the rig are tradition there. But you can also find trucks with green lights in Maryland. Typically Some police departments, county and state agencies use blue only. The most police agencies use red-blue. Fire/ EMS uses red or red-blue.. depends where you are. Red lights are better visible in many situations. White lights are very intense and they let you know it's the front. Ambers usually let you know it's the back.
ohh very crazy :D in germany all cars have only blue lights firebrigade... ambulance.... and police... all have blue. and we have a yellow light for big trucks for warning. tow trucks or something like that :D
So the squads in Chicago go on working fires and sometimes Stills if there the nearest rig. AT1 is a truck but has a pipe on the tip of the main and it can only pump water out of the pipe. Other trucks dont have pumps on them and the Tower Ladders do and can only pump out of the pipe too. Chicago Fire is a Hollywood tv show so people that arent firefighters can understand it more.
Michael Hogg they switched to bunkers in 08 or 09 if memory serves me right...it came out around new years because I retired from being a fan a little when they got it because I could blend in. I used to do ride alongs all the time. sure I had to hide from the DDC but the BC said long as the LT or CAPT said it was fine he didn't care
can you tell us why the dept has made it where there only hireing vets or medics only? SOMEPEOPLE have longed to be firefighters since they were little boys and even had chiefs from the 17th and 21st take them in and nurture the career interest. I don't want to sound mean or rude but we appreciate what the vets did but ive been waiting 22 years
they're the Rescue Squad. so they have equipment for almost anything. they are a rolling toolbox. they deliver hands and tools. they can do the same functions as a truck company, but just without the actual ladder on the apparatus. the squad just extricates. and some trucks can have pumps. they're called "Quints", they have a pump like a pumper, but a ladder (Areal or Tower), so they can serve as either piece depending on how it's needed
Johnny, Its really admirable that you know the term VES. That term is very modern, almost like iPhone 5S. About density, Chicago FD definitely follows a "Pre-Incident planning". No one thumb sucks those units in the moment of 911 call.
A commissioner way back then was really into boating. Because boats had a red light on the left side and a green light on the right side, just so you know when you see the lights the boat was facing you. Its also a Chicagoland tradition too, most towns in Chicagoland have green lights on the captains side of the rig.
Thank you Tyler, i'm pleased i made you giggle sir, i'm a bit of a joker, but genuinely love the Fire Service, This was my dream job as a youngster and a teen, but alas i was too short for the service.,
It's one of the few (if not only now)aerial ladders in the CFD with a waterway. Most of the rear mount ladders you see there are "truck" companies. All ladder / no waterway. The "aerial" and "tower" designation indicates elevated waterways. Tower Companies 5 ,10,14 (for example) are all aerial platforms that can be used as water towers, just as Aerial 1 can.
brendan129 Can't wait to move to Chicago, since apparently it seems that you're suggesting only minorities and women can become firefighters. :-) Maybe they're the only groups that have the nerves of steel to rush into burning buildings to save the family cat where others would stand around rubbernecking :-)
brendan129 Not true, they are the best of the best. I live 12 miles from were those trucks are built. My old man builds them. You have to go thru rigorous training to be on a big city fire department. 99% of the the Chicago Fire trucks are built in South Dakota. They are very customized and high tech.
brendan129 well coming from Scotland he would technically be considered a minority. Well not directly a minority but he would be considered an immigrant and on that base with how they hire it would help.
Im not sure what you mean. If you are asking if a rescue truck is called a rescue or a truck, then irs both. It just depends on the equipment needed and the department. Here where I live we have rescue squads. The Rescue squads don't do anything fire related, they just specialize in confined space rescues, Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA), and other search and rescues related stuff and they also respond to medical calls when the fire department isn't available or EMS isn't available.

@@KandiKlover How can you jack knife without a trailer?
Night Fury thats what i was saying 😂
CXFireRescue even though this thing weighs almost 80,000 pounds.
Thumbs up for a very professorial driver. Especially the tight areas
you get there as quick as you can as safe as you can because we want us fireman to come back alive.
Va volunteer firefighter here I am 16 years old , can't imagine ever having a different job , love it
I love how they are reacting to the EMS plan, although I can’t blame them because an EMS plan brings out like 3 extra ambulances
Excellent driving from the driver of this appliance he kept up well with the pump and showed his skill as a driver.
Well filmed mate, well filmed.
yhc
Love this video!!! Watch it all the time.
Absolute BEST fire video I've seen... Good job!!
Great video and the operators of both the engine company and truck company did a great job of responding code 3 and safely moving through all the traffic. “ that’s what we do”.
oh my that was amazing!! great job!! this vid is going into my favorites!!!
Clybourn Street how do you know this???
Good Job!!!! You said what everybody else said, just in your own words!!! Your school teachers must be proud of you for not copying others work and calling it your own.
I agree with you Jeff, it's like an adreline rush! Like one I had one I was in the Army but that was different! Merry Christmas everybody!

I miss those ambulances so much even though I didn’t get to see much they were awesome ambulances!
It's nice to see pretty much everybody yeilding the right of way to the FD. Doesn't always happen in the big cities. Well done Chi' Town!
Those sirens are like the sound of angels because you know help is on the way. My grandfather was a firechief, rest in peace you will be missed
I love the kind of maritime/aviation navigation lights they have on CFD rigs.
god bless the firemen and rescue people
My dad was a Lt on the Chicago fire dept Engine 106 on Elston Ave. Brings back some awesome memories
Good job guys, God bless you ...
I have no idea why I find myself back here year after year, but damn still an awesome video !
Looks like these guys have my kind of luck - catch almost every red light in the city!
LOLLOLLOLLOLLOL
great video of this ride along in this ladder truck
Areal tower ! with engine ! in front
to this fire
nice catch too catching ladder 28 and all the EMTS that came to the rescue too with the police
Very good driving I'm very proud of you all god bless you all 👍
Aerial tower has a pre-piped water way all other trucks have regular 100' ladder. there used to be an Aerial Tower 3, it was wrecked & now they are just Truck 3.
Question for the guys over in Chicago, an EMS plan gets more ambulances, but at what stage would they request this? In this instance does it mean multiple casualties or is it just covering the bases? In any case this is quite an impressive response from the Chicago FD.
Not sure if you already got an answer... A still alarm in a high-rise brings 4 engines & 4 trucks, the squad, command van 2 ambulances & several chiefs, if there is a fire it goes to the next alarm, still & box, 4 more engines & trucks it also goes to an EMS Plan 1: 4 more ambulances, the plan is automatic w/ the still & box, this is only on high-rise incidents
nice liverbird photo
I can hear the wind blowing , that must be why they call it the windy City , thanks for the ride along Chicago Fire Department !! Good Job & Stay Safe !!! 👍😃🚒🚑
Sure miss those days when I was a volunteer fireman.
i really liked this one you did a nice job. like the ride along keep doing those great job. watching from PA
A technical question from Germany: is the sound of the siren (the pitch level) somehow linked to the speed of the fire truck or is it just random?
No, all sirens (electronic and electro-mechanical) and self contained units that are usually controlled by a toggle switch, button, or foot pedal.
Additional detail: this type of siren is called a "Q", manufactured by Federal Signal. Chicago uses the electronic version, the eQ2B.

Like the cops used to say back in the day when they pulled over a speeder, "Where's the fire, bub?"
Hi! Danke fürs mitfahren, mitfilmen und schreiben der klasse Beschreibung. Das muß jetzt mal gesagt werden!
4:20 oh wow the bridge from Watch Dogs :P
Ikr
It is so sad to see most of the drivers will not pull over for our first response people. I hope they’re not going to your mom’s house.if you want to see the correct drivers you can you tube Roberto gatti. Italian fire response. What a difference in the way we can respect the people who will come to a house that is on fire and go inside to help people who they have never met before ❤
When there is a high rise fire too high for the ladder crew how do they put it out
The crews will fight it from the inside--off of the stairwells w/ 2.5 in lines of the standpipes in the stairwells.
In a high rise fire you bring the fight to the fire. That’s why they sent so many units. You gotta carry everything up. Unique and difficult fights.
Cui finesse standpipe. Engine pumps water through the pipes up to the floor below the fire. Then they can stretch the line up the stairs. Sometimes the same floor as the fire if the building is big.
A lot of energy climbing to affected fire floors!
In every high rise building they will have standpips that firefighters can take a high rise pack and hock it up to it
Best on board ride along ever. it reminds me of backdraft.
Off the charts - way too cool!
Thank you for the ride NICE.
There ladder truck is better than my ladder truck at my station I'm a jr. Ff and I love these vids I watch them all the time when Iam at the station
Same here lol
This is by far your best work ever. interesting catch the CPD car that Trk.28 passes @ 10:15 is the one of a few with that make of lightbar in Chgo.,
Hey guys,
I´m come from Germany and I´m a German firefighter.
I have one question: Why the lights of the firetrucks and rescuecars are all red and white and yellow and the police are blue???
In Germany all lights are blue :D
Those are the colors used in North America...
Red / Green is a fire truck or Ambulance...
Blue is a Police Vehicle
Green is probably some sort of special service
Amber / Orange / White are tow trucks and other maintnence vehicles
Tom Z
okey thanks :D
Schwummiwumi in hungary only blue (on some ambulance red and blue)
So the squads in Chicago go on working fires and sometimes Stills if there the nearest rig. AT1 is a truck but has a pipe on the tip of the main and it can only pump water out of the pipe. Other trucks dont have pumps on them and the Tower Ladders do and can only pump out of the pipe too. Chicago Fire is a Hollywood tv show so people that arent firefighters can understand it more.
I do have to ask when did Chicago Fire finally switch to full turnout gear after just coats for the longest?
2006
Cool so do you still go on ride alongs?
Michael Hogg they switched to bunkers in 08 or 09 if memory serves me right...it came out around new years because I retired from being a fan a little when they got it because I could blend in. I used to do ride alongs all the time. sure I had to hide from the DDC but the BC said long as the LT or CAPT said it was fine he didn't care
We switched over to "bunker gear' about four years ago.
can you tell us why the dept has made it where there only hireing vets or medics only? SOMEPEOPLE have longed to be firefighters since they were little boys and even had chiefs from the 17th and 21st take them in and nurture the career interest. I don't want to sound mean or rude but we appreciate what the vets did but ive been waiting 22 years
I was on THE CHICAGO FIRE DEPARTMENT FOR 20 YEARS!!!! And I miss this a bit
OUTSTANDING !!!!
they're the Rescue Squad. so they have equipment for almost anything. they are a rolling toolbox. they deliver hands and tools. they can do the same functions as a truck company, but just without the actual ladder on the apparatus. the squad just extricates. and some trucks can have pumps. they're called "Quints", they have a pump like a pumper, but a ladder (Areal or Tower), so they can serve as either piece depending on how it's needed
Where's Newhouse
Nice one. I don't know why i waited so long to watch this. Epic video.
2:14 is my fav
Johnny, Its really admirable that you know the term VES. That term is very modern, almost like iPhone 5S. About density, Chicago FD definitely follows a "Pre-Incident planning". No one thumb sucks those units in the moment of 911 call.
The response time was well within the CFD regulations
And they weren’t even the first due
A commissioner way back then was really into boating. Because boats had a red light on the left side and a green light on the right side, just so you know when you see the lights the boat was facing you. Its also a Chicagoland tradition too, most towns in Chicagoland have green lights on the captains side of the rig.
Who's still watching 2017?
Chicago FD Investigator I’m watching in 2019
Me as well
Watching in 2020
I’m watching in 2020
Nice video. Good job Dirk!
Firefighters Convention ???
Craig Guild congrats sir. You are the first to ever make me giggle in a youtube comment section.
Tower Companies 5 ,10,14 (for example) are all aerial platforms that can be used as water towers, just as Aerial 1 can.
cool video!!!
Great video...keep the Chicago Fire ride alongs coming!
i really want to be apart of the chicago fire department :( but im living in scotland D:
So?
*****
And be a minority or woman.
brendan129 Can't wait to move to Chicago, since apparently it seems that you're suggesting only minorities and women can become firefighters. :-) Maybe they're the only groups that have the nerves of steel to rush into burning buildings to save the family cat where others would stand around rubbernecking :-)
brendan129
Not true, they are the best of the best.
That engineer is an expert at guiding that tower truck through those city streets
This is cool at 1:52.
Chicago is such a beautiful city occupied by heroic Firefighters. God Bless and stay safe.
My uncle was definitely the last guy talking on the radio
Im not sure what you mean. If you are asking if a rescue truck is called a rescue or a truck, then irs both. It just depends on the equipment needed and the department. Here where I live we have rescue squads. The Rescue squads don't do anything fire related, they just specialize in confined space rescues, Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA), and other search and rescues related stuff and they also respond to medical calls when the fire department isn't available or EMS isn't available.
