    CFD squad companies are a two piece unit. Squad A is the 55' snorkel the other unit "not marked B" is the special equipment van. It carries various tools as well as manpower. Hope that's helpful.

    Fun fact: The Green lights on the trucks symbolizes when the old fire chief had a lot of involvement in the shipping industry which a green light is found on the sideboard of ships and/or is a symbol to fallen firefighters in the chicago area

    I am very impressed the way these stations run right in the downtown area of a busy city like Chicago. E42 T3 SQUAD 1 AND 1A AMB 42 , 271 AND AMB 93 IF I'M NOT MISTAKEN ON THE APPRATUS IN THIS HOUSE. Very well maintained.

    Way back when one of the commissioners also owned a steamship line. He liked the look of the red and green lights on his ships and brought it over to the department. A lot of firehouses have red and green lights on the front as well.

      Blackwall Studios it's squad 1A. It's the second part of squad one. Both the first and second truck make up squad 1

      Is this is the same for all fire houses and squad units? Or can you sometimes get a second part of squad without the first squad unit? Thanks for the reply, regards from UK 🇬🇧

      Blackwall Studios only for squads. You can't have a squad unit without the two trucks haha

    A full house response, sth I can only dream of; It's simply not possible to film a full house rsponse at the career FD in my city, they simply have too many apparatus, covering so many normal and special operations that no scenario would require all of them

    • @f_caserta9544
      @f_caserta9544 6 лет назад +1

      Here in Italy only in distaccamento (fire stations with 2 apparatus or more ) you could see a full house response,in fire headquarter it's impossible because it means the turnout of main engines ,main pupmer/tankers,main ladder trucks ,hazmat van and primary decontamination unit(big fire headquarter also shelter),mobile command unit,officer's car,chief's car and more other vehicles.If you mean for a full house response the turnout of only main units a full house response in italian fire headquarter means all main engines,pumper/tankers,ladder trucks ,officer's car,chief's car and mobile command unit.

    I'm an EMT in training in Hagerstown Maryland and I noticed you have a Q-siren on an Ambulance which is weird because over here only our Fire Rigs have them. But we aren't a Fire rescue so maybe thats why.

    • @thisissparta789789
      @thisissparta789789 8 лет назад

      They're Electronic Q sirens. All Chicago FD units, even the chief cars, have them as of 2004-2005 ish. The Squads are from 2001 and haven't been replaced yet despite HEAVY use because they didn't make Snorkels anymore until this past year.

    • @CFDMedia
      @CFDMedia Год назад

      Most CFD Engines, Trucks and Ambulances are equipped with Federal Electronic Q sirens. None of our units still use mechanicals but a few rigs do have Non Q electronics. Gotta love the Q run down digital or mechanical.

      Google the history of Chicago because Chicago was at one point was a maritime port for the great lake region so the green light would represents green buroy on the right side of a channel and red on the left side of the channel

    • @hollywood1793
      @hollywood1793 4 года назад

      a former cfd chief started the tradition of green(Port), red (Starboard) lights on the trucks because he was a nautical buff and it tells you left or right on a fire truck or a ship.

    Why is CFD required to have green lights flashing?

    • @SpartacusColo
      @SpartacusColo 10 лет назад +4

      The fire commissioner back when CFD became motorized adopted the nautical tradition of red and green lights on boats to the rigs. It stuck.

    • @CFDMedia
      @CFDMedia Год назад

      Not required just a tradition that is fading. A foremr commissioner was a boating enthusiasts and like the maritime red/green signaling for port and starboard it was adopted at firehouses and on the rigs. Our newer rigs no longer come with the green lights as they are replaced by the more universal red/blue emergency response lighting used in Illinois

    Just noticed in this video there's a hotel across from the station. Good luck getting any sleep. This house is busy. Seems like a traffic signal just before the station to turn red & the one at the intersection to go green when they are departing would be very helpful. I don't like to see FFs step out in traffic for this purpose. Too many guys have been hurt & killed in car/pedestrian crashes.
