  • We knew it was time to make a change and so after a trip to North Norfolk we thought we should follow up with one of 'Ronnie's top tips' and change the caravan carpets for the winter.
    In this video Dave re carpets the whole caravan, Helen chooses new winter bedding plus we have put new shower and cooker top Kats in as well.
    Take a look and let us know your thoughts by leaving a comment below.
    Thanks in advance for watching the channel, we always appreciate the support we get.

    Well that was really interesting guys. Good job on the carpet Dave (luckily the supervisor only popped in once)!
    And it really looks a good job.
    Some more good tips for us on this one - the boot box is a great idea. I expect the Frog needed the loo too 🤣🤣. Amazing!!

    Hello Dave and Helen, Happy belated birthday wishes to you Helen!🎉 Dave you did a grand job on the carpet laying, great idea and very practical. 'Looks very smart. Also putting your boots into a plastic box was a good idea. Our wellies are kept on a welly rack outside and they are very damp and uncomfortable to put on (as well as freezing cold!). If I had your shoe box, I'd consider putting a small fleece blanket on top of them to keep them warm too.

    Morning Dave: I thought I left a comment last night but it's gone :o). You must have a secret microphone in our van. We had a visitor on Sunday to the van and the boss took up the covers because she wanted it to look nice. She was only there 5 minutes and we were horrified at how quickly the carpet gets dirty. We discussed taking it up and changing it for something else. Obviously the something has just been reviewed by yourself. Excellent review. I will be phoning my carpet fitter (i'm a builder) this morning and sounding him out for some cheap ;o) runner. Keep up the great buddy. Mossy (& Mrs Mossy)

    Hi Helen and Dave, that bedding set looked like a great find, will be looking in to that and the Carpet is a super idea. Our standard fit is looking a bit shabby after a recent wet trip. The black pants were a great look compared to the tradesman butt crack too! 😁

    • @HelenandDave
      @HelenandDave  7 месяцев назад +1

      Hi Gordon, the bedding looks great value but we haven't slept in it yet so will reserve total judgement until then. Well pleased with the carpets and shower/cooker mats too. If you're going to pretend to be a tradesman you have to look the part, so it was numerous cups of tea, lots of whistling and pants out. It felt good lol. Thanks as always for watching. @@HelenandDave Nothing to do with Caravans specifically, but a quick tip for "fluffy" bedding. We recently bought new "fluffy" throws to keep the Dog odour off the Sofas, we washed them before first use. Noticed the washing machine was emptying slowly after, might be worth checking your machine filter for the first couple of washes, ours had the usual bits and bobs in it, but also had quite a bit of new fluff. Another chance for Tea and Whistling!

    Dave, you really have done an excellent job! Filling in the gaps, actually made the carpet look better and the stripes are very conducive to hiding the joints and making the carpet look as if it is actually a far larger (wider) piece of carpet. Being in Japan, wearing shoes in the caravan is as much of a faux pas or sacrilege as wearing shoes in the house, so I have made an upside down tray that fits over the top of my step and the top (or the underside of the 'tray' if you like) is covered with flooring looking cushion floor. I use a thin rubber mat on the floor to take off the shoes and put them in a plastic drawer that slides under the caravan (much like your idea of a box) and then use the step just in socks. I do use a simple car side awning I got online (the rainforest site) and sewed on a beaded strip to attach to the awing rail. The beauty of it is that it has two fibreglass poles to create a dome effect (much like a tent) and the lower part can therefore be pegged directly to the ground, thus creating a kind of 'lean-to' porch. Two poles and two pegs - that's it! Because it is intended to be used this way, there is also a window in the lower half. It isn't particularly wide and really should be thought of as an old-fashioned porch on a cottage.

    • @HelenandDave
      @HelenandDave  7 месяцев назад +1

      Hi Andrew, always good to hear from you and the Japanese way of doing things, we can learn a lot! Your shoe tray idea sounds very nifty as does the car side awning idea too. I like simple and effective things like this and by the sound of it, nice and easy to put up and take down. Will investigate further. Thanks as always for dropping by. Cheers, Helen & Dave

    Hi Dave and Helen, Runner looks great, I will show Heather I’m sure that we will be following suit as our current carpets are getting tired and like yours are light coloured, but a good inexpensive but pleasantly tasteful solution, just a thought, I’ve always wondered why there’s a Norfolk and Suffolk, but no Effolk or Weffolk, and Essex Sussex and Wessex but no Nossex, enjoy the Winter ‘vanning just watch the weather we went to The Lake District one Easter, woke up Easter Sunday to 4” of snow, and we didn’t have a 4x4 back then (1990’s) 😂 we stayed a few days longer than planned !

    While the carpet looks very good through the van & fits very well -the manufacturers should take note and do the same! One place a carpet should never be is in the toilet area!! First thing we did in our van was remove the toilet carpet vaxing it (just in case!!) then stored it ready for when/if we sell! We use a set of standard bathroom mats, easily removed & washable. Great idea for the main area!! Take care, all the best.

    That is another one of the advantages of towing the caravan with the campervan, in bad weather, instead of a caravan awning, you can just pull the wind out canopy towards the caravan as an outside shelter, that you can put away wet if needs be.
    As far as cold floors go, we just wear slippers but we have got away from the cold a bit on our next outing, this Saturday, for a week, by booking up a hoseasons log cabin in the highlands at Invergordon as a base, onwards from there, out and about in the campervan. Hardly any dearer than an expensive camp site, this time of year and no long nights stuck in the caravan all dark evenings from 4.30 p.m. renting a 5 person lodge instead, with TV, pots, pans, cooker, shower, toilet, heating and beds / bedding etc.all in the large 2 bedroom cabin, as well as deer and wildlife to look at from the lodge balcony, lake, All for £330 with a blue light card. Been there before - love it !

    Lovely job. As a 'put on', I got some of the cheap rugs from Temu which seem to keep the heat in and when the dogs trail in the mud on their paws, they can be washed in the washer. I had the same problem with the backs of the original carpet crumbling my fix which seems to work very well is clear silicone sealant use a plastic flexible spreader squirt the silicone onto the back of the carpet I just did the areas where it was crumbling then with the spreader work the silicone evenly over the affected area and leave overnight to dry, it worked great and also makes the carpet none slip 😁

      Hi Jackie, many thanks for watching and leaving a comment. No particular reason. We do have proper carpet which fastens down with studs but it’s light in colour and the backing is starting to crumble. Our friends fitted similar carpet to what we have put down and it’s really hard wearing with tough rubbery/water proof backing which with our dog Bella and plenty of wet and sometimes muddy caravan trips we thought we would try this.
