    We use thermal foil stuff from toolstation. I measured it to fit the windows and the hab door and between the cab and hab area. Add a few inches so you can fold it over, thread some curtain wire and hang like you would curtains. Rolls up and ties back in the day. We have also lined cupboards and under the seats with it. Its amazing how much cold it keeps out.

    Your water tank is underslung on your particular motorhome (E425) I think you might be referring to your mini hot water cylinder? I lived in a Fiat Doblo micro-camper (it was properly converted by a specialist company in Leeds called "Compact Campers"). I did that throughout winter around Dartmoor and Exmoor. I didn't have any extra heating source so if I wanted heat I was forced to run the engine but I did buy and find very useful a portable heater which used the butane cylinders which most camping/caravan people will be familiar with. If I did it again I would definitely want more space and additional heating.

    Thanks for an interesting video. This is our first winter and just seen it’s getting to -1 / -2 next week. My worst fear is frozen pipes. We have oil radiator and electric fan set on a temp plug in thing at 22c, should that help prevent freezing pipes? 😅

    • @Mevi
      @Mevi Год назад

      If your pipes are inside the vehicle, I imagine so. If they're under the vehicle, there could be problems.
      My grey water pipe froze in that last cold snap, so I had to bail out my sink when it wouldn't drain. I resorted to running a temporary drain pipe inside the vehicle and out a floor vent.
      You may be able to wrap external pipes and I've known people wrap their external tanks and even add heater elements.

    best way to keep mould and damp down is to run a dehumidifier - it needs to stay under 68% relative humidity in all places to prevent mould - perfect if you can manage a power draw of about 500-600watt - the water extracted is very pure

    • @xgouldiex

    Hiya m8! Good videos. I’ve got a van same size as youres I’m looking to fit diesel heater but not sure how many KW would be best ? Don’t wanna go to mad & it drains battery to quick? What do you think please?

    • @Mevi
      @Mevi Год назад +1

      Diesel heaters all seem to pull about 8-10 amps or 100-ish watts on start-up... Regardless of the heat output.
      After that, there might be a higher electricity use for the larger fuel pump, dosing and the fan.
      2KW is usually good for a panel van, but those are hard to find - usually the exact same heater as the 5KW with a different circuit board.
      5KW is a sensible size for a moho and you don't *have* to run it on full.

    Would it be possible to hook the outlet of the diesel heater to the piping of the Truma blown air system so the heat is distributed around the motorhome?

    • @Mevi
      @Mevi Год назад +1

      Truma ducting is 65mm in diameter, so you would need an adapter from the 75mm outlet of the diesel heater (60mm for a 2KW size). That’s the easy bit, I reckon.
      Finding a location where you can drop the diesel heater through the bottom of the motorhome AND be close to the truma ducting could be a challenge.
      I don’t know how that might work if you wanted to *keep* both heat sources, however if you want an example of a diesel heater replacing a truma in a modern motorhome, John & Mandy did that with the Bürstner they sold this year - they put it in the garage. I’m sure they made a video a video on their install which kept the truma ducting.
      Co-incidentally, I was having this exact conversation with John tonight. Spooky.

    • @stephenprice7502
      @stephenprice7502 Год назад

      @@Mevi I looked at the Chinese clone of the truma diesel combi heater to replace the current truma gas combi, but at almost £900 plus shipping, plus import duty it’s out of my price range. I wish my existing truma had an electric element in it for use on hookup but sadly it’s gas only.
