I'm surprised with how well this video has done. A few weeks after doing this, the noise came back and I clumsily broke some of the blades on one of the fans. I ended up buying some third party fans which cost me (I think) around 160 yuan or 20 USD. The new fans I purchased are from a company called FCN and although they are not perfect, are much quieter than the original ones. If you are unable to get new fans or are really tight on cash, feel free to try what is done in the video, but I would recommended buying third party replacement fans and being done with it. I decided to not make a video on replacing the fans since it is pretty simple and I was tight on time, but one thing to look out for is the little pieces of adhesive that hold the fans to the chassis, once you unscrew all the screws just pull the fans out even though there will be a little bit of resistance.

ArduinoBen did the exact same thing u did in the vid, except I also put tape on the holes where you screw the lid of the fan back on but I don’t think that was the issue. I’m thinking of buying a pair of replacement fans as well, could you maybe send a link? Are they an improvement over the old ones?? Thank u for making such a thorough video, you’re appreciated 😊☺️!!

@@XookUp I bought some from a company called FCN, the first search on Taobao, there is definitely and improvement, but the fans are still loud. I think I'll try lithium grease with these new fans as someone else suggested.

Great video bud! Same issue, it was driving me insane. I had a bussing sound every few seconds from the fans, grinding to a hault and restarting. So I opened it up, cleaned it, and added some grease I had laying around that I usually use to lubricate the gears on my rc cars. Seems to have fixed the problem. Thanks for the video, saved me a lot of time!

Thank you, worked for me. I've had problems with the left fan. I have sprayed several squirts of silicone oil into the space in between the bearing. Needed multiple tries until the unsteady noise disappeared completely. The unsteady noise still appears sometimes when spinning the laptop around its axes, but for working positioning no problems anymore. Great!
(Edit: the suggested BIOS Update before didn't change anything regarding the noise - the update seems to change the temperature-fan speed-curve only)

Thank you for the Video! Today I fixed mine. I didn't clean it up so carefully (no full water bath, only some Q-tips with alcohol and vaccuuming away the dust). I opened just the Fan-Top-Case (small screws) and put one drop of oil in the bearing. All perfect: no vibrating noise, just the blowing air (and due to dust removal that doesn't happen so often/quick).

I have replaced both fans, and after a couple of months it was the same. So I tried the grease and it worked (I did not clean the parts). One more thing I noticed is that even with grease, at first, there was slight rubbing when moving the fan. So I fiddled with it some more, and pushed the fan back in, buck applying a little bit of force. After some initial trials it seems to have worked.
Just thinking out loud here, but I carry my backpack to work in the paneer on some bumpy roads. As the fan is not really secured by anything else other than magnets, could all the bumping/ chock kind of move it slightly out of place?
Anyhow, applying some grease, and maybe pushing it in so far (20min in) seem to have done the trick
    [EDIT]
After a day some noise came back, and cleaning the blades/ case didn't help. What did help however was cleaning the electromagnets with a q-tip. Just going to leave it here.

I had very serious fan issues where the fan would "crash" into the housing when spinning up. Eventually the controller notices this and deactivates the fan before spinning back up... repating this scratching/crashing cycle over and over.
I fixed it by cleaning the blades with a brush and in an ultrasonic cleaner. I also applied a tiny amount of light oil to central dome the blades are resting on (the silver pillar).

I had your own preoblem. I solved it completely by putting lithium grease. Initially I too had put oil, but after 2 weeks the noise returned. it's just a question of lubrication. Try it too, a year has already passed and the noise has never returned.

    • @Ben.N

I've bought replacement fans but they still have this issue, I've seen a lot of people suggest lithium grease so I'll try to get a hold of some this summer and put it in. Thanks for the advice. :-)
Edit: It seems the blade can't be taken off the replacement fans I got, and I carelessly broke some of the fins on the old fans, so I'm not really sure about what I'm going to do. :-(

HI ArduinoBen, I am having this issue for a year now and just got used to the noise but it still bugs me. I having following different forums regarding this topic and so far no permanent issue was posted. I am however curious about the comment of one user here who said that the bios update made his unit silent for almost a year. I was hoping if you know what bios version is that?

    • @Ben.N
      @Ben.N  4 года назад +2

I don't know which BIOS version it was off the top of my head, but it only made the fan curve less aggressive, so if you do any gaming or creative work the fans will still make that noise.
