Things I love about this video: 0:14 - the blonde having a bit of a struggle pulling the rickshaw carrying Nino. 0:56 - the dancer in the front on the left side of the screen seems to be phoning it in. 1:22 - Nino really gets into his dancing and April playfully chides him. 1:39 - April pretending that it requires all of her strength to "steer" the "ship". 1:46 - Nino coming out from behind the wheel to take center stage. 2:47 - April stops dancing and is leaning against the platform and brushes back her hair as if it's the end of a long shooting day and she's had enough.
WILL SAY. she's a knockout. what blew me away. came across a picture of her. must be during somewhere in the 1950s. WHOA. she's beautiful in the picture. but. she's wearing a see Thur nightgown. WHOA.
It had the same values of burlesque and vaudville at the time. And scopitones were in bars and nightclubs so they could get away with the bikini shakin' action.
This video is precious! Nino Tempo is such an impressive guy! He had a #1 Pop record with his sister in the early ‘60’s AND just happens to be one one the great “session cats” of that era on tenor saxophone! What a talent! ... unheard of today!
One of my favorites. I bought the DVDs from your site years ago and often blast the music on the house stereo. Lots of bass on the muddy old soundtrack.
I really enjoy finding these old Scopitone films. I've heard the machines were more popular in Europe than in the U.S. Only ever saw one here....& that was sometime in the late 1960s. I must've been around 15 at the time, and it was inside of a local pizza parlor. I remember being amazed at this jukebox-looking thing that played musical shorts. Futuristic stuff right there.....LOL.
@@doglips1958 Wikipedia, and other sites list her birthdate as 1929. Now I wasn't at the hospital so can't verify that, but I wouldn't just make a negative remark about a person I don't agree with. By the way, I enjoy my crack pipe.
Someone corrected me on this earlier this year. I wished her a happy 83rd on April 29th this year. Someone who said that he bought their (or her) biography on Amazon said that April said she was in fact born in 1929. She played down her age in order to be more competitive. At the time Deep Purple came out in 1963 the British Invasion was going full steam. She blamed that for some of the reason they weren't more successful! She has individual songs on You Tube going back to the early 50s!
It's "what the grownups thought the kids wanted" back then. Don't worry, we thought it was cheesy, too - and yes, April Stevens was a goddess - and a talented one, too.
Agreed. Then at 2:11 dancing on the platform in her bikini she burns even hotter. Maybe one of her grandchildren wiil give up her name one of these decades. She certainly deserves recognition...

I like Nino Tempo and April Stevens very much, but IMO this much-recorded song doesn’t suit them. Check the versions by Chris Kenner (who wrote it), Wilson Pickett, Cannibal & the Headhunters, Thee Midniters. But the dancers are something else!
Funny. I grew up with all of those versions and this one is my favorite. The sound on this video does not do it justice. I have the mono LP of "Hey Baby" and this song sounds very impressive. Great production.

Easily impressed, we see.
Great, I love everything about this video. And can those girls dance! Wow!

April Stevens is the coolest sexiest woman I've never heard of. Wow!
Pure, unadulterated awesomeness!!
I love Scopitones. They all had a borderline tawdry quality that made them hard to resist.

That's using "borderline" very loosely!
April is absolutely beautiful.
I simply can. Not believe April Stevens is over 90 now. She never looked old! I really had no idea of her age.

The brunette in pigtails is super cute. Reminds me of Sally Field back in her Gidget days.
Amazing woman
The sailor girls' costumes were very, very hot and dangerous for the early 1960s... like something on MTV in the 1990s. :)

Burlesque for the 60s
