April and Nino are great singers. I'd never have guessed that they were brother and sister. They don't look very much alike. Nino looks like a big strong guy who could hold his own in a hockey or football game. April is tiny and beautiful; my idea of the perfect woman. Their contrasting looks and terrific voices make them the perfect couple for the romantic songs they sing.
And Italian brothers can be *very* jealous, believe me! Duing our study a very nice guy from Rome happened to be my very best friend, till his younger sister joined our university too. He only had to say once *"Not my sister!"* Ok, not his sister . . .

I like the part when Nino covers April’s mouth when she’s going to sing his line and they are lip syncing to a recording. She gets back at him later when he does it again and she pulls down his arm and sings and it’s his voice revealing that they are lip syncing. It could have been spontaneous or was once and they incorporated it into their performance for comic affect.
As they began to sing, April was obviously off the mark on the floor where she was supposed to be, so Nino had to pull her back. For those duet closeups, they had to stand close. Every TV stage has lines, X's and boxes on the floor (usually with gaffer's tape so it can be altered or removed if necessary) so the performers know where to stand.
@2:12 he breaks with the sync & says something witty & she's cool with it, laughs & yet coyly covers her mouth, which only made the whole performance more honest & their being unaffected all the more appealing! Talk about being able to do no wrong!
There must be an unwritten rule that brother and sister acts should not look at each other when singing love songs. However, Nino did look at April a couple of time, but she ignored him. Joe
Does anybody remember the Line Dancing on American Bandstand? I've seen them do the Stroll, but there was more interesting things done that I hope we see on the tube in the future.
The career would have been longer had it not been for The Beatles landing. I like The Beatles but love Nino and April.A LOT of excellent acts had to lose out to the British Invasion.
Performers frequently had no choice in the matter. The TV shows done their own thing, with or without the artists permission. I have sampled some April and Nino genuine live and it didn't seem like they needed to lip-sync. Many of April's recordings were probably equivalent to live single takes?
Not so much cheapness as that the kids watching wanted to hear the exact same song they were currently hearing on the radio, not a variation. That was certainly the way I wanted it back then.

I hate the Dick Clark stuff. He was cheap and refused to pay extra to have the groups sing 'live' so that everything was lip-sync.
