    20 min drive from my place - lovely to visit every year in the summer. It's worth paying the £5 extra and have the very informative tour. You can even visit the house and grounds of Edward Jenner practically next door.

      You are very lucky to live so close by, we did not know about the Jenner house but if we get to go again will check it out. Thanks

    It is huge! Must cost big money to maintain! Thanks!

      Well I have to admit I wouldn't want to be the one responsible for paying the heating bills at Berkeley 😂 Yes, just the maintenance costs must be enormous, we are very lucky that some are still maintained and open for us to visit.

    Great video, moving away from this part of the world soon down to Kent, so this on on my Castles to visit before I go :)

      It's definitely worth a visit, if I remember rightly though it is closed during winter months and open again in spring so I hope it is open in time for you. There are some rather nice castles down in Kent for you too explore too 😀

      @@castlesandlegends Was bought up in Kent so really looking forward to revisiting Deal, Walmer, Dover, Leeds and in Sussex the amazing Bodium Castle. Over the last 7 years been making loads of visits to Wales and the borders, Goodrich, Raglan, Carmarthen, Pembroke and so many more. Visited the incredible "Old Sarum" on Wednesday and going to Old Waldour on Saturday. All amazing places with so much magic and history. Love your videos and thank you so much for posting them:)

      Thank you!!! There are so many wonderful castles in Wales, spoilt for choice. I have recently visited Old Wardour myself (not got round to editing the footage), great castle ruins, quite a little maze wandering about them, hope you had a great time!

      It's so rare to find a castle that dates back to the 11th century and is not in complete ruins!

    Amazing building even after so much war. Stupid question: "Why is the English pronounciation BARK-eley when it is clearly spelt BERK-ely??"

    • @castlesandlegends
      @castlesandlegends  11 месяцев назад

      Good question! To my understanding, particularly older names, it may be that the spelling has changed over time or the pronunciation in different dialects (such as Scottish or Irish) was different and one has stuck.
