I wonder who the first person that's going to be searched after talking about the "weapon" and the "mags" assuring that their colleague packed everything in an airport.
JmanTheMinecrafter More likely than not they'll call it a camera. But now because of this, we might see terrorists packing camera-sized weapons, because "Weapon: can now mean a RED camera. Them clever terrorists can do anything they set their mind to if they're smart enough.
Nathaniel Graham officer, is that the new RED DRAGON you are shooting us with. what an incredible weapon of choice! how many mags do you carry with you to shoot people with?
Sinister Steel You can pretty reasonably run games at 1440p with a single card. Hell, I'm connecting my 1440p monitor to my NVS 5400m laptop because more pixels are damn nice for everything other than games as well. Games look better at 1440p with slightly lower details and no AA than with better settings at 1080. I use a r9 280x BTW. There is still an early adopter fee on 1440p but it's well worth it in my experience.
Sinister Steel $300, sometimes less. Why on earth would you spend $300 on a GPU and $150 on a monitor when the monitor lasts for several builds and makes such a massive difference on your computer using experience? Higher settings can only make your shitty monitor look so good and the return on investment is so much worse.
The narration is a way better video format than what you guys usually do. Luke shouting over the crowd live is great, but I like this a lot more. Also the filming is a lot better!
If anyone was wondering, 8k is needed in the professional industry for a few reasons. 1) These cameras will bring films to iMax and other extremely large format screens. 2) When your final product is 4k, you can get a sharper image by recording a larger image and then downscaling. 3) Eventually people will be having 8k TVs and monitors. It is impossible to get people to adopt a better format if there isn't enough content for that format. Which is why the camera's always come first. Oh, and keep in mind that REDs eventual goal is a 48k camera. So they are still miles away from where they want to be.
4k is already popular, and will become the standard in another couple of years. Also, 8k isn't nipping at it's heels. HD cameras have been around since the 1990s. However, HD didn't become a standard until the government adopted a digital system. By the time they had this done, 4k was already a thing because RED came out with the RED One camera. This is just the cycle of increasing resolutions. However, where RED really shines is the huge dynamic range (16.5 stops!) and the amazing colour depth. Besides, if you take a 1920x1080 resolution screen, that is fairly small (say 5"), and view it through a magnifying glass you'll see how far we have to go. But who is looking at small screens through magnifying glasses you say? VR/AR headsets do just that. There are a million reasons why we'd want better resolution, but this is just one of them.
I see people upgrading to 4k in large numbers, but I believe most homes have 1080 right now. Again though, cameras are the start of the cycle. TVs in people's homes is the end of it. Even the latest consoles support 4k now. Content creators should always be ahead of the curve, otherwise they will find themselves attempting to sell a product that no one wants. This is why these 6k and 8k cameras are needed.
Hopefully within the year we will also get a few consumer focused 8K displays on the market. 4K is getting pretty old now, and it is really time to upgrade. 5K is a slight improvement, but not enough to really meet todays demands for quality.
MrDarkSh0ck Exactly a camera that "you" will never buy...However you're not his only subscriber so out of his over 1M subs there are people that care alot for camera equipment. So I see no reason for you to complain.
Would have preferred larger receptor sites and more low light performance... But in any case good work. Hopefully the older reds that aren't upgraded go even cheaper after this gets released.
More coverage of this 8k you speak of! In one year 4K will be in most homes of anyone who calls themselves a tech enthusiast. I want to know if 8K+ will replace Imax, or will film still being superior.
People are too quick to say 6K and now 8K are useless...they're not. The whole point of starting at such high resolutions, is to then scale the image down to 4K, which will make the picture much more sharp, detailed and textured. In order to end up with a crisp, high quality 4K image, we do actually need to start at higher resolutions and then downscale.
I like how people here are commenting "BLA why 8k when most of us cant even watch 4k ,bla this bla that" for your information nobody said this is gonna be used for youtube videos soon , and also 4k cameras are used for a long time to record movies , so just because it is not on youtube or somewhere doesnt mean it is not used really
From a photographer who dabbles in video... What do the guys use when shooting big production movies or high budget film? Like... What's best in the cinema realm? Is this it?
Tim Kyle ARRI. RED's the cheap alternative - Don't quote me on this but something ridiculous like 80odd percent of oscar-winning films where shot on the ARRI ALEXA last year
Tim Kyle I agree the Arri Alexa is probably the most commonly used. But, it all depends on what they are shooting. Everything from GoPros to Canon 5Ds are in use depending what they are trying to capture. The 5D is slowly dying, because new video cameras can capture the same depth of field. Remember on a video set you can have 10s of camera shooting a scene, this is one of the reasons RED became so popular. Instead of having to rent a camera (yes big films rent cameras), you could buy or rent multiple cameras for less money.
Wow I'm ashamed of red. They listed shooting the Tom cruise movie " oblivion" on their site. Any quick google search shows that the movie was shot with a Sony camera. Wow. Flat out liars.
Is this a good rig? My mom's toaster @ 220 volts 2x4 slices of Warburton wholegrain bread 1000ml jar of seedless strawberry jam IKEA 12" ceramic plate Reference design 15cm bread knife 400ml ceramic mug that says "I hate my job" Darjeeling authentic tea bags 2 teaspoons of sugar Will I get my daily recommendation of carbs and fiber?
its about time red is looking at noise. the epic and anything under that has an embarrassing amount of noise. The dragon noise is still meh although the 6k helps i still find the ARRI's Alexa still out performs the Dragon with image quality, its got stops for days and the channel noise is very even and low.
Steve Goergen Hopefully they have a better sensor then the last gens. RED is known to have big problems with red tones. I don´t think that they can reach Sony or Arri with their sensors. Less pixels but better color truth.
Vibe Str0kd No, epic-x dragon is $24k and epic-m dragon monochrome is $31k. The price you were watching had some extra equipment. I was talking about *brain only*, because there are so many optional and required parts that change the price a lot. And when the 6K version came, it cost about the same as the previous version. So i don't think the 8k version will be much more than the 6k version. At first the cheapest model (8k equivalent to epic-x dragon) might be around $30k. And 8k equivalent to epic-m dragon monochrome might be $35-40k. Agai, *brain only* for easier price comparison.
Ok this is starting to get ridiculous. Like on what format do you expect to see the difference of 8K resolution. Like majority of movies are not seen on IMAX. Most movies are either seen in 4k or 1080. And even with IMAX. The highest projector I believe is 5k. This just seems to be overkill. To me buying this would be a waist of money.
this is getting ridiculous! I mean, most of us can't event screen 4K and now they want to shoot in 8K? OK, it has some advantages in Post, but compressed down to 4K, I bet you can't whether it's a 6K or 8K sensor.
Now that even freakin' SMARTPHONES can record in 4k, i'm actually quite surprised there's still absolutely no 8k cams in the prosumer market. Why so slow? (and before anyone says because there are no 8k tv's, 4k tvs' are like the same price now that 1080p used to be just 2 years ago so we really SHOULD have 8k tv's by now but what for if there's no content? no cams no content.)
Great expensive camera. But I don't get why manufactures do the things they do, example. Why add (compared to the recording equipment that someone buying cameras like would have) not very good microphones to the camera body. Why not remove them and just have audio inputs (jack, XLR etc) not actual microphones. And most likely someone buying a camera like this would have separate recording equipment (that is probably worth thousands of dollars). Same thing with super high end monitors and weak source speakers.
Bradley Pitt use it as a scratch/reference/slate track. It is a pain trying to mount a mike on the current EPICs...having it built in is WAY easier. And yes, there would be more expensive audio gear, still good to have some synched reference.
All the naysayers about 8k are being foolish, this is "future tech" that is available now, we just cant afford it, all things come down in price, the first HD TV's where 720 and people thought that it was great, only to be overshadowed by 1080, we have had 1080 for a while, but tech moves fast, and the TV manufactures are pushing 4k this year, the good thing about 4k TV is it can scale to 1080 for broadcast reason ATM, in the next 2 years i don't think 1080 TV's will be the dominant thing in stores, the price point for 4K will be comparable to what 1080 is today, a 1080 TV will be the ghetto TV just like the 720 is now, can you even buy a 720 now? well maybe but why would you? 8k cameras will just never be a thing. Ever. Our internet speeds is the major limiting factor, now, and with nobody being particularly interested in finding new faster ways to get internet, then this whole 8k thing will never happen.
HyperionNyx You know 8K resolution allows you many advantages in post production. You can always shoot in 8K and downscale to 4k or even shit 1080p. You think feature films were shot entirely in 1080p a couple years ago? No, they were shot at much higher resolutions...
HyperionNyx Movies have been shot at far far higher than 1080p resolutions for like a decade wroth of digital filmography. It allows for more flexibility in post production, and generally speaking a downsampled high resolution image will look better and have better noise figures and colour reproduction than a 1:1 in/out image where the final image you see in cinema or on your TV is the same as what they used to record. So, just as you would never record a 1080p movie with 1080p cameras, you won't record 4k movies with 4k cameras. That's why these cameras exist.
Murray Ferguson Down payment? Fuuuck! Could buy the whole house, getting all the essential and convenience accessories for this would run you over a 100 Grand!
I like all the themed stuff on the camera, IE eject, keep clear, mags.
The first RED product I saw was on Maeques brownlee's channel. These are gorgeous cameras man.
Wow, that is exactly what I want, videos of me peeling a potato in 8k. I need this
Viet Lee How do you peel a console?
Patrick C you need a torque wrench
I love you for that lol
Viet Lee Do you peel your potatoes before you kill people with them?
You should start a Kickstarter campaign for that.
JmanTheMinecrafter especially when they ask what they'll be 'shooting' that day!
Theodor Brinch "So I was shooting this couple with my weapon the other day and..." "GET DOWN ON THE GROUND NOW!!!" (BLAM BLAM)
Nathaniel Graham officer, is that the new RED DRAGON you are shooting us with. what an incredible weapon of choice! how many mags do you carry with you to shoot people with?
Im still on 1080p tho
Honorablewolf 720p over here on my 15" CRT monitor
Honorablewolf 900p and my caera is 1mp
Honorablewolf 2 pidgeons with string here.
Sinister Steel You can pretty reasonably run games at 1440p with a single card. Hell, I'm connecting my 1440p monitor to my NVS 5400m laptop because more pixels are damn nice for everything other than games as well.

Linus videos uploaded to youtube in 8K-Resolution... Can't await that future :D
Wait, did I say you nailed it in the last video? Nah, you _nailed it_ here.
Nice, crisp audio, and very understandable. You're getting it.
That's one nice looking camera! I'd feel like a badass holding that thing.
The narration is a way better video format than what you guys usually do. Luke shouting over the crowd live is great, but I like this a lot more. Also the filming is a lot better!
I'll take 3 :)
Theguyordie The 1 of them is mine !!! :3
Great stuff from Red.
The narrative is good in this video, and the camera is decent too :)
If anyone was wondering, 8k is needed in the professional industry for a few reasons.

Anyone notice that he posted 3 videos daily now hope u keep up the good work linud
Happy birthday Linus
For a second I thought the thumbnail was a guy with a camera lens pressed against his face.
Same
***** Exactly!!!
Hopefully within the year we will also get a few consumer focused 8K displays on the market. 4K is getting pretty old now, and it is really time to upgrade. 5K is a slight improvement, but not enough to really meet todays demands for quality.
From a movie camera perspective, Alexa 65 is still on top, even in resolution(since 8k isn't available now), all hope on Panavision, i guess.
I am interest to see the colors and overall quality this beast will have
*Stoned Unicorn* I'm more interested into the editing flexibility recording 8k and delivering 4k can bring to the table
i wish they would stop this fucking show coverage and upload normal content
not 15 thousand dollar cameras im never gona get
MrDarkSh0ck Somebody missed the memo..
MrDarkSh0ck Have you checked the videos they've uploaded on their channel recently?
MrDarkSh0ck Exactly a camera that "you" will never buy...However you're not his only subscriber so out of his over 1M subs there are people that care alot for camera equipment. So I see no reason for you to complain.
MrDarkSh0ck You know, nobody forces you to watch every video they upload.
MrDarkSh0ck You have to be excited about the footage that they shall bring but :)
Would have preferred larger receptor sites and more low light performance... But in any case good work. Hopefully the older reds that aren't upgraded go even cheaper after this gets released.
hey happy birthday Linus #Tech Talk
Would be cool to compare this one and the image from the ARRI 6K . 2K lesser resolution but it has a bigger 65mm sensor, so both will be pretty good.
but I'm unsure of how to protect my screen on my phone?
More coverage of this 8k you speak of! In one year 4K will be in most homes of anyone who calls themselves a tech enthusiast. I want to know if 8K+ will replace Imax, or will film still being superior.
Looks awesome, but the image warp in this video looks horrible.
Let's just try and get everyone on 4K for now... although I am excited by these developments.
so that's the first 8k video camera, right? awesome...
i wonder how much storage 1 min of raw 8k footage needs... any ideas?
Its a cinema camera used to make movies. Not so you can stream it online.
Why not get the biggest Kodak you can find?
I dont think we need anything higher than 4k
I like how people here are commenting "BLA why 8k when most of us cant even watch 4k ,bla this bla that" for your information nobody said this is gonna be used for youtube videos soon , and also 4k cameras are used for a long time to record movies , so just because it is not on youtube or somewhere doesnt mean it is not used really

Adam Pinnock cool. Only 80k! :)
Yeah films... ridiculous money!
Tim Kyle I agree the Arri Alexa is probably the most commonly used. But, it all depends on what they are shooting. Please, someone explain. What would someone do with content shot in 6k or 8k?? Why is that high of a resolution necessary? I just don't understand...
Linus where are you?
Is this a good rig?
My mom's toaster @ 220 volts
2x4 slices of Warburton wholegrain bread
1000ml jar of seedless strawberry jam
IKEA 12" ceramic plate

400ml ceramic mug that says "I hate my job"
Darjeeling authentic tea bags
2 teaspoons of sugar
Will I get my daily recommendation of carbs and fiber?
Please let me know when 10k is out, hopefully itll be the next reality.
8K? i'm still rocking on 1280x1024. guess i'll continue to wait for 16K.
its about time red is looking at noise. the epic and anything under that has an embarrassing amount of noise. The dragon noise is still meh although the 6k helps i still find the ARRI's Alexa still out performs the Dragon with image quality, its got stops for days and the channel noise is very even and low.
Why do you keep saying "the weapon" when referring to the camera
Bad ass camera, bad ass price.
that skull logo reminds me of the intel extreme logo.
even my community college has a RED camera
Cameras or camcorders need active cooling?
Crazy camera, how much does one cost and is it difficult to find one?
Anderson Dickens the 8k camera is like $60,000
Check there website lol
Jaskaran Singh *their
Anderson Dickens about 15-20k and they have a website to get one
Why does this episode have so many ads?
There just arent enough adverts in this video for my liking
RED did it again... damn!
Steve Goergen Hopefully they have a better sensor then the last gens. RED is known to have big problems with red tones. I don´t think that they can reach Sony or Arri with their sensors. Less pixels but better color truth.
How is this Song in the backround called?
I thought the tumbnail said "6k and 8k recording, Oculus"
What's the background music?
Brandon can you do a review on a RED camera, please?
Alexa 65's sensor?
I want to see prices ($_$)
ThexXxXxOLOxXxXx At least $50,000.
I would guess about $25-30k just for the camera brain.
WayZHC It's 35k for the weaker 6k version..
Vibe Str0kd "weaker" :P
Vibe Str0kd No, epic-x dragon is $24k and epic-m dragon monochrome is $31k. The price you were watching had some extra equipment. I was talking about *brain only*, because there are so many optional and required parts that change the price a lot.

LinusTechTips i know why they put the red in the cage becoz its a overkill dragon and a dangerous weapon that can kill any camera out there
This is insane over kill. I have a £25,000 Red. The one down from this. And even that is overkill at 5k.
Why is there a Phyrexia symbol there?
Barely any of your subscribers care about cameras, can we have the videos with linus doing something interesting back?
Sam Hoyek fuck yoooooooooooooooou!
Sam Hoyek Remember when he used to unbox and criticize the foam? :)
ChristmasSamurai lel

New Red camera to film myself eating popcorn, or a new house.....?
name of the music pls
who's the narrator??? he's really good :D
2:06 do i just have dirty mind or is the guy in the top right doing something with his hands....
Linus, When Brandon asks...JUST SAY NO.
this is getting ridiculous! I mean, most of us can't event screen 4K and now they want to shoot in 8K? OK, it has some advantages in Post, but compressed down to 4K, I bet you can't whether it's a 6K or 8K sensor.
Where's linus ? Or luke ?
ali salmah
Filming shit you'll see in three weeks.
A total beast. Also quite sexy looks.
I know what Fincher is making his new movie with...
daym'! want one of these babies :)
I need this! =)
i will buy that
Filming at 8k must be a bitch! Even at 1TB that's probably only like 30 minutes worth of footage.
and were back to cameras
The thumb nail it looked like the guy was using it backwards.
Bradley Pitt Slate audio, for sync purposes most likely.
6K / 8K camera with HDMI
:3 cute....
we should move away from measuring resolution in K's that's just silly
1sword4you The hdmi out of this cam is only 1080p you record on very expensive red ssd's like 2500$ for 256gb
You do realise it isn't actually a weapon, it's a camera. Though I'm sure if someone hit me over the head with one it'd smart.
Yeah I meant on like just general youtube videos and stuff, like they'll never be streamed.
Brandan09997
That's cool.
So...A brand new 2015 car...or... a camera. Hmm.
The next RED Is gonna have like water cooling xD
I could buy this or put a down payment on a house. hmmmm.....
Murray Ferguson Down payment? Fuuuck! Could buy the whole house, getting all the essential and convenience accessories for this would run you over a 100 Grand!
is anybody else seeing this vid in black and white
wow so many K's
8 freakin k?
Drone and camera porn from the PC guys... yiiiissssss
imagine :3 Make youtube videos with that things!!!!!
Too bad the camera alone costs $30,000
Never heard of it but the fact that they called their product 'the weapon' makes me hate them.
Bad ass weapon.....camera hehe
too overkill
Yeah why not... of course I have the money for a RED.. -.-
I want hologram recording what about that.
where is linus and stop this coverage thing!!
Indratanu Bhattacharya you don't have to watch it ;)
Indratanu Bhattacharya
They cover every major tech show. How dumb are you?
I ment to say they should start posting normal videos ;)
Indratanu Bhattacharya This is a normal video, LTT covers tech and tech shows, nothing abnormal about it.
no I want to see the reviews of products with Linus hosting it!!!!!!!!
THE FUCK AM I WATCHING??
Way too many videos about cameras. sigh...
I have never heard of RED. I guess I am not cool.
i have no fucking idea why gopro 5 will shoot 8k
Why are they even making 8k cameras?... CANT WE FOCUS ON WHAT PEOPLE CAN ACTUALLY F***** WATCH VIDEOS IN
