  • To round off his Scottish Steam trilogy, producer NICK LERA presents a cameo of the classic West Highlands locomotive, “The Great Marquess”, one of only six K4 Class 3-cylinder locomotives specially designed for the line in 1937 by the great locomotive engineer Sir Nigel Gresley. After major overhaul and restoration on the Severn Valley Railway, we see this sole survivor of the class crossing the iconic Glenfinnan viaduct in a glorious return to its home rails in the summer of 1989.

What a gorgeous big smoothie. No wonder she was snapped up the moment she officially "retired".

Clearly designed for gradients. Smaller drive wheels and considerable weight of loco to increase friction.
