I was lucky enough to walk over the Forth Bridge. The rail used was hollow section to reduce weight. I got an end on view of a piece used to repair some lattice work on the bridge. There was a stock pile of the rail but the rolling mill had closed so once that was used the bridge had to be strengthened to carry solid rail.
My family emigrated to Australia in 1961. I still have fond memories of the ferries, featured at 2:52, from the 1950’s. Often, if the queue for the ferry was too long - as on bank holidays - dad would drive to the bridge at Kincardine.
Thanks for a great video. I was on the train from Inverness to helemsdale in !986, I would have been aged 10 at the time and I remember the crew had problems with the water pump to fill up the tender on that journey.

An excellent upload and a total reminder of my childhood here in Suffolk; I had the VHS of this blended with Volume 1. Regards, Samuel Farris.
