- Not many people have been up here - so I jumped at the chance when the tickets went on sale. But too scary for me, so join Alicja on this fascinating trip to the top of one of Scotland's most iconic structures. I have often thought what it would be like up there, but now Alicja brings it to life (and I must say I'm glad I stayed on the ground). I was super impressed with the footage she managed to capture up there, making this my favourite video on the channel so far - we hope you enjoy it too!
Filmed on Friday 23rd September 2022 in North Queensferry Fife.
The event was 'Your View at the Forth Bridge Experience' which I believe takes place every year now for a limited time. The cost of the ticket was £70 which is expensive, but it's for a great cause and offers an experience like no other.
Hi, I’m Steve, a travel reviewer from Scotland. Join me on my adventures as I discover my own country, often visiting places for the first time, so hopefully it's as much of an eye-opener for you as it is for me! Don't expect expert opinion, just a very honest journey of discovery. Sometimes featuring my intrepid sidekick Alicja, sometimes featuring adventures beyond the borders of Scotland. Enjoy!

Great work Alicja! (official stunt camera crew) The bridge is certainly an impressive bit of engineering, and the views look incredible.
Agreed Steve. She's VERY brave!!!
@@katesterly547- At the top of the bridge as Alicja was walking about and panning the camera, @ 04:35, did anyone else start looking for her moving around? Then, comes the dawn, Alicja is behind the camera! I get so used to Steve handling the camera. ;-)
Hi Steve, my dad watches your channel and showed me and my sister this video because the three of us were actually in the group that was stuck at the top in the lift that day! We were stuck up there for nearly two hours, it was pretty terrifying and eventually the emergency brake was used to bring us down. Amazing views at the top thought 😂
No way!!!! After listening to Alicja's stories and editing this video, I can't begin to imagine what that was like!!!
I build scaffolding here in Canada, you forget about the heights after you become confident in your abilities and 100%trusting of your safety harness.Great video gurl!
Alicja, you were awesome there! Scary stuff!!!
Well, I am full of admiration for Alicja. Had no idea there was a platform like that at the top. Alicja took some marvellous video and gave us the full feeling of what it was like to be up there. Wow!!
She did so well being able to film it as well eh!?
I could never have done that. You did very well and took some nice shots with the camera. 👍
Many thanks to Alicja for this fantastic vid from so high up on a windy day.
She crazy! :D
Well done, l'm with Steve, no way.Alicia the brave.Great video, thanks
Incredible views! I'm sitting here in the comfort of my desk chair watching this on my computer. And that's enough for me!
I got that roller coaster feeling in my tummy watching this. A great experience for Alicja. I think she's part mountain goat anyway.
Haha love it :D
Good job ALICJA you done super well that high great job❤❤❤XXXa
Brave lady! I was feeling queasy watching ! The lift freaked me out. Great views thank you
Wow!
For some reason, watching heights on video makes my toes tingle. Bit of a tinglefest, that.
If you pause the videos at 13:29, the house you can see at the bottom right of frame used to rent out a room on air bnb which looks out onto the bridge with a decked balcony. We stayed there for two nights last year. Not sure if they still rent the room as they were talking about selling up.
Wow what a place!
Many congratulations to Alicja for taking on such a scary ride. Theres no place to hide up there from the exposure of the wind, train vibrations and the sheer open expanse of the view. I'd like to think I could do it but I know I couldn't. I'd need to be sedated. Well done Alicja!!!
Here here! :)
Great bridge and even better video from the top thank you Alicja but I could not do it I'll stay on the ground with Steve
Glad to hear I'm not the only one! :)
Hats off to Alicja for her bravery it is more than I could do, when she stepped out at the top I felt my guts clench and had to keep my eyes shut for most of the video I did look now and then and the views are spectacular, it's funny I have flown in very turbulent air and did not bat an eyelid but the thought of standing up on that deck turns my blood to ice water, well we are all different. Thanks for the video one day when I have had a wee dram to brace myself I will watch it again in full, cheers for now and stay safe.
I'm with you there Simon!
Not for me to high I’m with Steve you are very brave young lady ❤❤
Such a rare treat glad you caught it
Great video as always guys. congratulations to, Alicja The Brave. 👏🍻
Cheers Dave!
What a brave lassie. Well done. All the best from Thailand.
Brave lady Alicja!! What special views!!
It is nice to see you and Alicia having a good time up on the bridge and I bet it is nice to see every view round the bridge and it is cloudy day
Steve I am 100% with you, no danger of me ever going up there, fair play to Alicja for doing it though although that proves she is completely mad so keep those kitchen knives securely locked.
Haha I'm hiding them as we speak :D
Great views thanks Alicia
Alicja even makes a high-vis and hard-hat look good. Super trooper.
Well Steve if there was ever confimation needed Alicja is one Crazy Crazy Lady - even without the wee dance she gives
It was FAB to see her up on the top - was surprised she didnt take a spanner to take the scafoldoing apart.
I hope you treated her well for taking your space.
Very Much a 10/10 VG and a definate FAB
She did me proud Gavin, and being able to film up there as well, what a girl! :)
This bridge is just a marvel
Alicja: Climbing to the top of the Forth Bridge so we don't have to. You're a good sport, Alicja, thanks for taking one for the team!
Wow! Brave girl! I would've been down at the bottom with you, Steve. Thanks for taking us along, Alicja.
Well done, Alicja and Steve! One of your best videos. They're all great to watch, but this one was riveting. 6.5 million rivets in the Forth Bridge, give or take a couple either way. What a marvel of 19th. century engineering the bridge is. It was to have been a very different structure, however. Sir Thomas Bouch was the engineering genius of the time, and he had been commissioned to build the bridge. His recent rail bridge over the Tay was highly acclaimed by all-until it collapsed one night in a storm. That was the end of his commission to build a bridge over the Forth, and it was to be the end of Bouch himself, who died a broken and devastated man. I would love to have taken that trip to the top and seen these unique views captured by Alicja. Huge thanks to you both for bringing the experience to me, and all your other appreciative subscribers.
Thanks so much for this comment!
Can you even begin to imagine what it’s like for the scaffolders putting that together??? 😱😱. My palms are sweating just watching this
Haha so true John!
Woah! Absolutely brilliant video again Steve!
Thank you Alicia and Steve for bring me up .love from England.💗🚂
Brave girl. No way could I go up there. Great video and superb views
Hey Alicia, you’ve got a theme to go on! Bridge walking. Next stop Sydney
Those views were absolutely stunning! Thank you to the brave Alicja for making that trip so that I’ll never have to.
Built in the aftermath of the Tay Bridge disaster if anything this one is over-engineered. It looks so strong, a wonderful and iconic structure.
Brilliant video and well done Alicja 👍
Ohh bugger that I find it bad enough using the road bridge. Alicja thank you for the view ❤
What a treat, thank you! You’re braver than me Alicja! I’ll stand with Steve 😁.
Well done, Aicja!!, and to the organisers (not least the scaffies!) too. A fantastic tribute to Scottish Engineering, especially when you think when it was built! Thank you for another great video Alicja and Steve.
Yes " 1882 what a marvellous feat of engineering 👍
When the author gets on the east side of pond, the Forth Rail Bridge is where he's bound. Absolutely an impressive and enduring structure, particularly when considering its build date. Regarding shaking of the Forth cantilever bridge due to passing rail traffic, the Huey Long Bridge at New Orleans, a cantilever structure carrying NOPB railroad, along with US highway 90, across Mississippi River, is known to vibrate, when trains are on deck. Further upriver, the dual carriageway (four-lane) cantilever Interstate 20 bridge at Vicksburg, has been personally felt by the author shaking, when one carriageway is stopped, and the other carriageway active. The I-20 bridge does not have a rail line on its deck.
Thanks Steve & Alicja for another great video. Awesome!
Wow ...well done Alicja you are one brave girl, and you filmed this beautifully, thankyou for sharing these wonderful views with us ... Steve I understand your concern there is no way I could've done this either.... What a fabulous team you are, so professional ...huge thankyou to both of you ...looking forward to the next one 😊💕😊
Thanks Myra! Can't believe she was able to go up there AND film the whole thing! :)
I'm like you Steve, no way would I go up there and I wouldn't even get in the lift to start with as I'm claustrophobic also! Alicia is one brave girl and especially as she braved it on a windy day, the view from up there is just incredible👌I know what its like just cycling over the road bridge when its windy, its bloody scary🤣Awesome video once again mate👍Thank you to Alicia for the awesome coverage👍
Me too 😳 Yikes! 😢
Thanks from both of us, especially from the girl brave enough to actually do it :)
Great video and thanks to Alicja for going up there. “Behind every great man is an exhausted woman.”Lady Sam Fairbairn
Oh Alicja dear girl! How wonderful! I would love to go up there! And I wouldn't mind the shaky bits or the lift pausing! Just brillant! Well done and thank you. 🙋🇨🇮🏴🙏
Simply awesome, 10/10 ❤❤
Cheers John from us both!
I always enjoy watching the two of you on your adventures. But sorry Steve, my thumbs up today is just for Alicja !
Congratulations, Alicja, on your certificate for being a courageous woman! Fantastic construction, built by 'briggers' in a time with no modern machinery. Great to see this kind of thing!
She braver than me!
Brilliant, so pleased Alicija got to go after being unable to earlier in the day. The views were stunning. Must have been quite scary when the lift stopped on the way down. Has to be the most stunning bridge in the world for sure.
Awesome views great job going up and video it.
Wonderful video and well done Alicja
Delegation Steve matey, nowt wrong with sending your beloved , another great video, incidentally, my father was based under the bridges , Royal Navy, early 1960s.
What a base! Aye, was glad to hand the camera over for this one mate!
Congratulations Alicja, not everyone has the nerve to do that. Thanks for sharing your accomplishment with us.
Good morning Steve and Alicja, Alicja 👍OMG you are the best I can’t believe you went to the top of that bridge I don’t know what was the scariest the elevator or the height 😧Steve you owe Alicja for another great video stay safe you guys see you soon😘
She did me and the channel proud once again Linda :)
Congratulations to Alicia ,she earned her certificate that day , incredible view at the top makes you so admire those who built the Forth bridge and the scaffolders who built those platforms and walkways as well.
Folks you really are cranking out some cracking vids 👌👌👌
Cheers guys!
Well done Alicja!! Steve...ya big fearty :) To be fair I felt a bit queasy just watching.
Haha I stick by my faerdiness :D
Well done Alicja, the trains passing uderneath you were like toy trains! What an outstanding view 360°. Scary or not you kept going! 👑👑. I used to have a head for heights, but not anymore. Congratulations. 🥂🥂
Oh you go Girl.....!💜!..and sort of Steve🤭
Haha I take it :)
Well done Alicja.I almost got vertigo just watching it. Thanks for sharing. Hi from Australia.
She did me proud, without her bravery this video simply wouldn't have happened :D
Wow! Super work Alicia, what a thrill that would have been.
Wow Aiicja treble wow great watch very daredevil treble wow what a view
Well done, Alicja - thanks for making it possible for all of us vertigo suffers to convince ourselves that we've made the right decision to not go there...! But, do you know, when I was about ten, in primary school in Fife - the teacher once said to the class, "Hands up everyone who honestly thought that the trains ran over the outer edges of the Forth Bridge when they were younger - and 26 out of 28 of us put our hands up! I was SO disappointed the first time I realised that the trains went on the level and through the middle of the cantilevers! (I remember thinking how the locomotives must have been really powerful to be able to pull their trains up such a steep angle - and wondering how on earth they managed to go slow enough down the other side to be able to cross those bridges between them...
Steve - I'd have been with you with both feet on terra firma mate - worrying about her all the time... I mean, you look positively ill when she's back down and you're walking together - deep breaths required mate - the diaphragmatic sort...! Seriously - I'm not laughing - you were probably in shock, especially when you saw the lift getting stuck on the way down... maybe you'd do well to learn how to do that in case of future emergencies... But it's all over now - and you got her back in one piece; so, no need to allow the footage to re-traumatise you...
Haha I was the same Paul!!! And very happy with my decision to stay on terra firma! :)
Your a lucky man to have alicja in your life.she has a kind face.
Brave lassie! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
That was so exciting. I would SO do that. Good job Alicja!
You had the right idea, Steve! 👍 I would have remained at ground level, too.
Well done Alicja very brave xx
Well done Alicja you are a super star, I am like Steve don’t do nights and I would be claustrophobic in that elevator
I absolutely love this bridge, but omg I couldn't have even stepped foot in the lift, never mind go up top. I got claustrophobia and vertigo just watching. Well done!!
Congratulations on your achievement joung lady 👏
A very brave young lady 👏👏👏
Views ,brave Alcja welldone, good views,
Have travelled across that bridge many times on the way to Montrose and our holidays. Have also been across the old Forth Road Bridge. Thanks for a great video, it brings back some happy memories. Keep well and safe. James.
WOW !!!!! That was amazing, fair play Alicja and well done !!!!! I would have been with you Steve, I could not have done that 😯
Great camera work Alicja, on the trains passing too underneath. Many a time on way to Angus thinking what the view would be like from up there!
Coincidentally that is almost exactly the same height you would be at if you were taking a ride to the Moon on an Apollo Saturn V rocket. Thanks Alicja for the beautiful video, so cool to see that!!!!
What a cool stat!
Hairy scary video! That lift is ridiculous. That was the risky part. 😊 Cracking video guys. Be well stay safe.
When I saw the lift going up I knew I'd made the right choice not to be in it :)
@@steve-marsh 100% mate terra firma all the way! ;-)
I'm afraid of heights too, so I 100% understand why Steve didn't want to go up, but from your footage Alicja, it seems like he would have been okay to take the ride up! The elevator up might have been the scariest part, but it looked not too bad if you stayed away from the edge of the railings. And look out, not down! Of course, I say that from my couch. Being there in person is a whole other story lol. It was quite an adventure!
OMG. Steve don’t mention hight’s and lifts in the same sentence 😮I’ve been stuck more than once in a lift & stood under the Forth Bridge but never over it! the sound of the wind gave me chills! I’m writing this with my eyes half closed! You and Alicja are real dare devils, as well as being brave, it’s an awesome video, but no thanks! having had a fifteen foot Indian Python round my shoulders was nothing compared to this, I did brave the ‘Eiffel Tower’ on my honeymoon sixty years ago 🫣 that was magical though 💗thanks again for going the extra mile both of you, even if it was ‘up’ a great souvenir photo Alicja, I think the brave men that have to cope with maintaining the bridge deserve medals 🏅 take care until next time 🥀🤗👋
She did so well :) Hey, I remember the Eiffel Tower, it was a terrifying experience!
@@steve-marsh You mean you actually went up the ‘Eiffel Tower’ Steve! I bet you didn’t go up the extension piece on the top, that was extra scary! 🫣I wouldn’t have done it without the encouragement of my new husband! 😘 not sure if Health & Safety would let you do it now! I agree Alicja did very well to master that gigantic construction, that took some guts! she looked a little apprehensive coming back down in the lift! 🙄
such a brave girl, Alicja!! thank you very much indeed for sharing such a view!!!
Wow! Well done!
I absolutely could not have done that. Congratulations Alicja. I was doing a lot of "oh noing", hard swallowing, making sure my feet were still on the ground, and everything else you do when you want to make sure you're not high up and going to die. I did manage to take a couple of peeks and the views are amazing. I have to admit I'm part of the poultry. Be well, Stay safe, Fly High Alicja, love from Texas.
What a girl eh Kate? So proud of her :)
You live a pretty charmed life, you two!
Great job, Alicja!
Hi @Steve Marsh,
Am from Central Coast NSW, Australia. Have really enjoyed watching the videos on your channel. Am visiting London, Scotland and Ireland in March 2023. Just wondered if you could do a video on accessibility ♿️ on trains, ferries for your fans who use crutches, wheelchairs etc.
Maybe you could try some of the other ferry services (Holyhead to Dublin, Liverpool to Ireland etc.
Keep the adventures coming, and thanks for all the hard work you put into your videos.
Alicja is one brave lady up there with that wind.
Cheers
Adam
Cheers Adam, will see what I can do, thanks for watching the videos and all the best for your trip!
Fantastic video and probably the only way I will see it !
Well done Alicji great video footage 👏👏and nerves of steel
Having been stuck in a lift that was neither here nor there I share Alicja's trepidation when it stopped on the way down.
Great video, and I'm so glad that my great(x??) uncle's work is still standing the test of time :-)
Superb Rob!
Congratulations Alicja it was very brave of you but no doubt well worth it for the amazing views👍i remember when i was about 10 we went across the forth railway bridge for our caravan holiday in Anstruther 😊
Bowkocks to climbing that bridge Steve, sooner be on the train even watching that gives me the eebby geebees. that lass of yours has some metal mate, would turn me into uncle brown. im ok looking into the distance but not straight down that would do it for me lol.
I'm with you there Chris!
A superb video, and not just a little bit jealous! Amazing to think, when that bridge was being built, they didn't have hard hats, hi-viz vests, or any Health & Safety rules.
Haha so true mate!
Very brave. I would have hated being stuck in that cage.
My maternal grandfather became a painter when he left the army after WW1 and he did work on that bridge. A never ending job until new paints were invented.
I was there as a child when the first road bridge was being built. We had to cross the Firth on a ferry. The road bridge has not lasted that long, just about 60 years. Too many defects.
What a grand Experience, Alicja has lot's of Courage, well done, mind I fancy she was glad to get safely down.
Well done Alicja. Amazing view. I would have gone up. Faced much more unsafe basket lifts (snatches) and and sky climber drops to seabed level in my North Sea time.
Brilliantly done Alicja, you and all those burly blokes. Fabulous video 😊
Way to go Alicja! We did the 3 bridges cruise the day before your adventure. I’d definitely go to the top but my husband says, like Steve, he’ll stick to ground level or admiring the views from a cruise. Thanks for taking us along as usual!
I just love this young woman! Steve, you're the luckiest guy In the world. I couldn't have gone up there too.
Well done Alicja.
She is a complete star :)
Great stuff Alicia, can’t be a legend at everything Steve, thx team
Magnificent!! I could not do this!...I have no problem with heights, it's the falling I have issues with.
