Fun fact: the Terrible Terror from the How to Train Your Dragon movies is based on Toothless's appearance in the original book. Jazza's depiction looks surprisingly similar to it considering the relatively limited description
I was just thinking that! I didn't realize that they were based off toothless' original description until I saw jazza's drawing (disclaimer, I've only read part of the original book)
The book series of How to Train your Dragon is very different from the movie, if my memory serves me as correct. Both are masterfully written and constructed, though, and Jazza did a fantastic job.
The reason toothless looks so different from his book description is actually because when they turned the books into a movie, the only thing they kept the same is the names. They wanted to give the movies a different story
Also to mention: the whole HTTYD series is illustrated! You should’ve compared a Toothless illustration! I love the scribbly artwork and as the series reaches the end and becomes deeper and darker, the sketches become more detailed (though not necessarily more skilled.) It kind of represents the depressing world that has emerged and also the way Hiccup has grown and matured. It really hit because I grew up as the end of the series came out.
Thestrals in Harry Potter are meant to look skeletal and evoke the idea of death, but yours looks perfect for a literally undead version. I could totally imagine it as the mount of some kind of necromancer!
I dont know if he's done this before but I think a video of Jazza drawing historical figures as they're described throughout history could be so cool. Especially for figures from perhaps thousands of years ago, who we may only have statues or old drawings that depict them
I mentioned urgals in a previous video in this series. It would be interesting to see how jazz recreates Paolinis urgals from their description next to whatever the hell the movie made. I think the ra'zac would be cool for that too. Whatever the movie depiction was, was cool in its own right, but not a ra'zac. Jazza would do a really cool depiction of such a putrid description. The lethrblaka description would lend itself really well to jazzas own style. He would make a fabulous depiction of them. Honestly think they are perfect for his style. A jazza fanghur or nidhwalar would be flat out cool, but really would just be another variation on dragons. So maybe not great for content. Sundablaka (might not be quite right, but the shadow flappers of vroengard post-fall) would be pretty fun to see what jazza does with such a vague and ominous description.
I would LOVE to see some Eragon creatures/monsters! Screw the movie; they apparently never read the books when they made it! The Inheritance Cycle is one of my top three with Chronicles of Narnia and Lord of the Rings!
I knew that was a Thestral in a heartbeat. Lol. I was so happy when he chose to not focus on the weird horse reptile description because some people might have done a strange half and half type of animal. Or put scales all over it or something like that or even spikes. Instead he chose to focus on more dragon like features likely since it mentioned the wings so I was happy about that!
I tell you, I wouldn’t trade the HTTYD movies we got for anything, but I really hope they make maybe a 2d animation mini series describing the story of the books. There’s some legit stuff in there, and the stakes get way higher. Also “cute, innocent”
Yeah I adore both the movies and the books, but they are totally different stories with totally different stakes and aesthetics. It’s really best not to think of them as connected.
I doubt anyone will see my comment, but I vouch for the Pro Sketch pack. It has genuinely helped me improve my sketches as well as my overall drawing, which is amazing since I've tried similar things and none of them have worked. I also really love the pencil. It's genuinely worth the money if you want to improve your sketching or if you want to start out.
THE TROLLOC MAKES ME SO HAPPY!! Thank you so much for that! LOVED Jazza's depiction! It really takes in the element of the description that I have read SO MANY times!
I love seeing the book Toothless! I got very obsessed with the books when I was younger, to the point where my dog is named "Hiccup" after the book. Something I think is worth being said is that Toothless, while he looks cute and innocent, fully talks in the books and is an absolute bitch. Like, he's a sassy little bastard and I love him
"Dachshund" is actually a German word. It literally means "badger dog", since that's what they were bred to help hunt. The original pronounciation is closer to "ducks-hund".
At least where i grew up, we pronounced it a bit closer to doxh-un with an o sound before the x/cks and not a u. Language and dialects and all that stuff is so great 😊
You could do the Hollows from Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. It would be nice to see how you'd represent them with the description they have.
definitely. I watched the (poorly done) movie before I read the first three books and I had a bit of an issue when comparing the monsters in the movie to their description in the books.
@JaydenHewitt666 I tried to read the last three but I couldn't get into them. they just didn't have the same feel as the first three. the retconning of certain key relationships really threw me off of it. I just couldn't bring myself to finish it. the third book is where it ended for me. the end of the third book is satisfying. it leaves the future uncertain, yes, but the loose ends are tied up and it feels like an ending. while I was excited to find that they had continued past the trilogy, I was disappointed at how they decided to proceed. the combination of unraveling the well earned ending of the third book, disregarding established lore, and tearing apart relationships seemingly for the hell of it made it seem like a cheap non-canon spinoff series or something. the author should have quit while they were ahead.
I really like your version of the Trolloc, having the weird mix of both bird and bull made it so much more terrifying. I would love to see your interpretation of creatures like the Kalkara from Ranger's Apprentice, or the Urgals or Ra'zac from Inheritance Cycle.
I’m enjoying the Pro Sketch Pack - the first thing I ever have bought from RUclips- as a gift to myself when I really, really needed one. I’ve adventured forth and watched your videos to learn; this video was so wonderful, to see how you use the mechanical pencils, the ink pens, the brush, the gray markers especially. Thanks so much and I especially loved seeing everyone’s artwork! I hope you invite more artwork in the future. The Thestrel was my favorite.
@@schrodingerskatze4308 yea cowel was a good writer and honestly it’s a disappointment that the films aren’t more accurate I would have loved to see it
@@nekoboygames7786 this always depresses me the books are great but the films are more famous and as the books and films are so different nobody ever goes from the films to the books its always a pity to me
@@ka-1atmyth353 a lot more people like to watch movies compared to reading a book. Plus movies get promoted more. So yea books will mostly get overlooked. Reading can be very fun tho. I do read a lot myself. But its mostly comic books that I read
I think the Thestrals in the movies are so spot on. They look exactly as I had imagined them to look and follow the description from the book very closely. Unlike a lot of other monsters and beasts where the movies took a lot more creative liberty.
first off love your version of the trolloc. being a bit of a WoT fan, the reason the description of the trolloc was so vauge is because different clans share different features. the weapon selection is because they are also a military unit. some also have bird or human feet. love your work.
I’d love to watch you guys do the Emperor of Mankind from Warhammer! But not from 40k, from before 30k, before he became the corpse he is now. I think this would be really cool because it would be hard for Jazza to guess, since the Emperor can change his appearance he is described in so many different ways. It would be really cool to see Jazza try and draw a character that has conflicting descriptions of him :)
How i would describe the emperor: A man about 10 feet tall Long black hair that turns gold at the roots looks about to be in his late 20s to early 30s Glowing golden eyes A large "halo" behind his head as if he was standing in front of a miniature sun Heavily adorned by think golden armor Large royal looking cape flowing down to the ground A large metal claw on his left hand A flaming great sword about the size of the average man in the other hand
I guess the 40k universe could be a source of many awesome and likely confusing descriptions. We got different demons, the primarchs, nasty dark Eldar stuff, necron creations, stuff made by the priests of Mars...
I absolutely LOVE that you drew Toothless. I am reading the book series for the second time, now, and so can say that your Toothless is SPOT ON!! (I also like that you play a HTTYD theme song when you were revealing him)
I recognized the description of the Trolloc as soon as you showed it! In the books there were different types that had either the wolf, the boar or the bird features. I absolutely love your interpretation of that where the features are all there and up to the observer to notice and describe.
Never stop selling that pack, please. Have it available forever. There are always beginner artists, the stuff is perfect and amazing, keep it available as Jazza merch, please please do
When you started reading the trolloc description I was "oh, that's a trolloc", while you were drawing "yes, it is a trolloc" (you have done it justice! really nice!) then during the reveal I jumped from my chair 😅 And great job from the audience! Knowing the world of Wheel of Time, most probably most their creations do live in that universe the way they have made them 😃
I wanted to explain to him that the OR is not because the creature is confusing or described by different people, but because there are many of them with many variations!
I’m not a massive fan of the first season…but I have to admit that it is pretty cool to see WOT characters entering public consciousness if only in a small way. Never before have references randomly popped up in unrelated media I consume.
I'd love to see Jazza draw either anime characters or obscure Disney characters. The thought of him drawing someone like Zoro from One Piece or the big whale villain from Lilo and Stich just makes me laugh so hard
Fun fact: the terrible terror model was going to be Toothless's model because that's what he looks like in the books, until they decided they wanted to do a different story so they kept the Terrors in the movies as an Easter Egg👀
For Trolloc, the description comes across more of a general description of a species rather than a specific creature, you could take most of those drawings and create an entire town of them.
For everyone wondering, its pronounced Ducks-Hoond (with a short oo sound like in book). Dachs is german for badger, Hund just means dog. They were used for crawling down the burrows.
In Germany we mainly say Dackel. The "a" in the first syllable sounds like the "a" in "father", The "e" at the end would sound like the "e" in "pet" or "get." So, the approximate pronunciation would be "dah-kel." Hunters and associations however, mostly refer to the Dackel as Teckel (pronounced like the english "tackle".
@@xyreniaofcthrayn1195 nope, not at all. It's a common mistake to read the first "chs" and misread it like the German "sch" which is the same as English "sh". But it's in fact the German "ch" (pronounced kh) with an s after it, followed by "hund". Dakh-s-hund
As a german I will tell you how to pronounce Dachshund ;) Dachshund = Dachs (engl. Badger) + Hund (engl. Dog) were used to hunt down badgers. They are small enough to follow the badgers into their dens. "Dachs" is prononced like "Ducks" (multiple birds) and "Hund" is pronounced like "Hood", but with a short vowel and an N between the U and the D
I guessed these 3 for 3 from the descriptions and as someone who loves The Wheel Of Time, I thought the Trolloc depiction was spot on! I love this series and always check it out when you drop a new vid, can't wait for the next one Jazza, you're so talented!
For toothless, the version Jazza drew is almost identical to the book drawing version Edit: not to be that guy but OMFG 1.8k likes in 3 weeks with 53 replies! Tysm!
@@slishslash9202 i agree If toothless (the movie version) was in the books I feel like he would be more of a windwalker And if toothless (book version) was in the films then he would definitely be a terrible terror But even though the books and films are quite different they’re both amazing and I love them all
Man, I really wish all of these videos existed 15 years ago when I was a tattoo artist of the shop watching these gets my creative juices flowing and the way that you explain what you’re doing while you’re doing it is awesome
I encourage you to send the painting of Toothless to the author! I think you nailed the book description very well! I'm curious how you would represent Goblins/Orcs from the different descriptions in the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings - especially if you treat the descriptions separately (i.e. descriptions of Moria orcs differently than Mordor, differently than Goblins in the Misty Mountains, etc...)
For those ordering the pro sketch pack from south africa. Please keep in mind it will take about 2 months to arrive. And the customs will likely be over R500. But i can confirm it is definitely worth it!
I believe they based the movie toothless off of Hiccup’s riding dragon in the books. Can’t remember his name though. Wind something? The movie basically combines the two.
The second winning person's art is so amazing! What an imagination! Makes my artist fluids run. The first one according to their young age, will become miraculous with the supplies they won!
I was waiting for the thestral since the start of this series! I absolutely love your depiction it’s exactly how I had imagined it when reading the books 😊
It would be really interesting to see some Discworld characters, as Pratchett tends to create rather unique, exaggerated characters, I would be particularly interested in seeing what you think of Igor: .Hands like they'd been in an industrial accident .Looked like they'd been horrifically mutilated .Two thumbs on each hand Etc...
Ooh! Good idea, another character could be Om when/while he regains power: . Theophany . A cloud of golden horns, eagle-headed men, and bulls fusing into each other . Shimmering golden figure . As tall as the temple . Fiery
I knew the description of the Trolloc immediately and the depiction was amazing. I loved the interpretation of the description as being separate accounts as it was definately how it felt reading. Was difficult to imagine it and I feel like you synthesized it so well!
I will continue to suggest the Wicked Witch of the West for this. Should be fun to see trying to work off her description vs. what she looks like in the movie.
@@novemberoscar98 When it comes to the Thestral Patronus’s meaning, it is generally associated with death and considered a bad omen since only the wizards who have witnessed death and accepted the concept of death can see this creature.
Yo Jazza just wanna say thanks for resparking my love for art! Found ya recently on here and just started drawing again after about a 5 year "break". Keep up the awesome work!!
Toothless looks so adorable! Also I love your versions of these monsters. The last one was making me think more of decaying flying horse full of death and terror rather than the thing one sees when one has experienced death.
I got Thestral just from the description and have to say i much prefer Jazza's version of the Thestral to the Thestrals in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
The thing is, thestrals are suposed to look kinda scary but they're really kind and gentle, there might be a ton of metaphor between this and how we perceive death or grief. I think that's why, in the movies, they prefered to go with something not that "deathly", that and also the target audience
Dude that Thestrel is so freaking gorgeous! The description told me “I think I remember something like this from way back when I read one of the Harry Potters” but had completely forgotten these creatures existed. They were beautiful and somber in the movie, but yours is downright badass, while still keeping so much elegance too it. A very gothic monster!
Jazza! Thanks for creating content that I really enjoyed. Over the years I followed your journey. Today I am very happy to be able to do something that I enjoyed doing both Animations and illustration Your serious have amazed me 😊
I’d like to suggest the creature descriptions in Out of the Silent Planet by C. S. Lewis if you guys do more of these videos. They’re all very unique and I think Jazza’s take on them would look great
1000x yes! This book is so underrated... Third part is kind of dissaointing but the first two are great and introduce such a n interesting universe! There is also definitely too few fanarts of it.
@@blizzardgaming7070 I’ve read How to Train Your Dragon, and How to Train Your Viking. Can’t remember if there was another I read, I just know toothless was a pathetic dragon and everyone else had cool ones. Edit: the other one I read was How to Speak Dragonese I think.
The toothless from the movie and the toothless from the first book are canonically different dragons from different time periods. The later books were written after the first film came out. The author made it canon. Edit: as people in the replies pointed out this is not fully accurate. Please take what they have said as truth. It's been a while since Ive read the books. The author made elements of the movies canon not the full thing. I've kept my original comment intact for posterity.
That's not quite true. There's a similar story in the backstory as an easter egg, but it's not at all identical. Wodensfang is not literally movie Toothless, and Hiccup I is not literally movie Hiccup.
X2 Dustwyrm. They are different universes entirely, even if there is a very similar relationship to Toothless and Hiccup from the movies described from history, it isn’t canon.
@@kajamaja7148highly recommend the read, they’re completely different things which makes it a fun read and not like as if you’re just reading the plot of the movie. I really enjoyed them even though I watched the movie first and did have some biases at first
The Trolloc you made is so brilliant. I think Jordan imagined them as a varied race (they're artificially created) but your approach of looking for one creature to march all the features is ingenious!
I love that you included others drawings and depictions of that prompt/description! Your followers are so talented! Unlike myself who watches and wishes I could draw like that. Lol
Tbh, I really like the videos where Jazza goes into different aspects of character design, like "what makes a character strong" or "cute". I'd wanna see him do that again (feasibly next year when he reads this comment 💀)
Trollocs in the books had wildly varying head shapes. Some had wolf's heads, some goats, and some eagles or hawks. They also of course carried various weapons from scimitars to axes, to cudgels and even bows.
I think a Wendigo would be cool to do for this. There are two versions though; the traditional Native American description and the version Stephen King created in Pet Sematary which has become dominant in pop culture.
I think that'd be sic. I remember being so weirded out seeing the more "Until Dawn"ish more traditional wendigo. Also, apparently most natives don't like the more modern pop culture wendigo because the deerskull and antlers are very pagan which is the opposite of what they want for their folklore
Maybe a universe mix up. Instead of characters art style changing it’s the settings their in. Ash Ketchum is taken to the commonwealth of fallout4, the Disney princess now trying to survive amongst the conflicts of xenomorphs of aliens and yautjia of predators, buzz lightyear and woody trapped in 40k. Or Jazza’s taken from reality to the far flung futures of Cyberpunk2077.
I love these videos! They always make me think of Barlowe’s Guide to Extraterrestrials, where illustrator Wayne Barlowe painted his interpretation of descriptions of aliens from all kinds of sci-fi, including Lovecraft and Ursula K. LeGuin.
in the books hiccup rides a black windwalker dragon, also very scrappy and funky looking but it's where I think the movies design came from because toothless in the books and toothless in the movies are two entirely difrent dragons 😅
that gecko with the "spike" eyelashes is called a crested gecko. the "spikes" they have on their eyes and the sides of their head/back are called crests and are actually very soft. my crested gecko LOVES when i give him little rubs on the side of his body just enough on his little crests. the other gecko was a leopard gecko. they are very fun little guys but usually get neglected as pet stores give out the wrong care for these guys the most.
Damn it, I would have bet on one of the creatures from "Shadows of the Colossus". 😭 I'm loving this series!!!! Your drawings are stunning and make me keep wanting to draw for fun even if I suck!
I love how jazza might make a mistake but fix it quickly without us knowing it , as well I like how he can start with a few little scribbles and then make a master piece. Jazza keep up the great work to entertain all of us.
There have been a few Pokémon that were cut from the games before release, but datamining them gives us their Pokédex enteries with small descriptions. I think that could be an interesting version of these videos, though you wouldnt have something to compare to
I’m currently reading the How To Train Your Dragon book series, and yes, they described Toothless as having “Innocent Green eyes” and being green, not black. Toothless is not even called a Night Fury. Those don’t exist in the books. How to Train your Dragon is not similar to the movies in any way, fun fact. The movies only took the words Hiccup, Toothless, and Berk, and just created a whole new story out of it.
Hey Jazza, I wanted to say how excited I am to be getting the sketch pack. I haven't been able to draw for years. I had a mental break and years of depression, and I lost a bunch of my art stuff when I moved. I'm feeling enough better to try having hobbies again, and I'm looking forward to the sketch pack getting here as kind of a reboot. Thank you ❤
I never understood why they had to call the movie "How to Train Your Dragon" even though most of the stuff shown wasn't part of the source material. It felt like half the characters in the film weren't in the books and the other half had been altered in ways that made them unrecognizable without their names.
I just discovered this series and I love it!!! Please do more of these as you are doing a lot of monster characters from books justice!!! And it is fun to guess them when you draw them
I always enjoy these character design sessions, they remind me of old Draw with Jazza times, and also of Paladin and Larry and the gnomes games Jazza created. With these new facilities and never ending inspiration, it would be wonderful to see new game from Jazza.
Hi Jazza. You probably won't ever see this, but I want to thank you. You've helped me keep my creativity alive during some hard times in the last few years. I've spent much of my 45 years creating through writing music and lyrics. I had to walk away from that. I've gotten too old for the work it takes to have any success in that. I knew that my last band was my last band when I committed and invested myself. In the last few years, I've returned to visual art. It's not something I've been consistent with. I'm not your student, but I am thankful to have you as a teacher. I hope that makes sense. Through your content, I found my way into editing and video creation and I've actually started making a living through creation. It's not glamorous but it keeps a roof over my head. I've even found my way into generative AI!. So, thank you for doing what you do.
Have you seen the baby dragons in the third Spyro game? Play the Reignited Trilogy! There's one that picks his nose when the thinks the elders aren't looking. lol
god i’ve been in love with the httyd films for YEARS, but the toothless drawing brought back memories of being read the books as a kid and being utterly livid and hating the movie when it came out because it was a totally different story😂
my bitterness never shows more than when a movie destroys the book it’s based on, but thankfully as i grew up i learned to appreciate and love the httyd books and films as separate entities
Could you please do The Wendigo from Algernon Blackwoods book because it’s not like the wendigo you see in most media it’s rarely seen and mostly described as an analogy for the terror of the nature around the hunters. I would also highly recommend the book!
The Terrible terror from HTTYD was actually designed after the Toothless described in the book. So that one would be a better comparison as book version vs movie version
As a German, this is probably the most adorable pronunciation of "Dachshound" XD (Dachs is sorta pronounced like "ducks" and hound like, well hound) That aside - marvellous art as always, Jazza! I really enjoyed seeing the process of the designs coming together. There is just something lovely and "alive" about sketches =)
Beautiful job of Trolloc, from the descriptions you gave. The trollocs were bred from the crosses of different beasts with human stock, using the Shadow to create the original progenitors of the Trollocs. There were different types of Trollocs with different capabilities, based on which beast stock was used. Awesome job drawing the primary monster from my favorite series. If you assume that the Trollocs were all homogenous but described in various ways, that is about as good a job as might be done. Great work!

"Dachshund" is actually a German word. It literally means "badger dog", since that's what they were bred to help hunt. The original pronounciation is closer to "ducks-hund".
Really! I would have thought it was connected to "hound"
@@ursidae97Yeah hund means dog. In Dutch (my language) it's hond. Very similar.
Dachshund badger/dog
Dashond badger/dog
Just fun etymologie.
It's funny, as noone in Germany says "Dachshund", we only use the abbreviation/diminutive "Dackel".
At least where i grew up, we pronounced it a bit closer to doxh-un with an o sound before the x/cks and not a u.
Language and dialects and all that stuff is so great 😊
how many times does he say it wrong?, I'm up to 5 and I don't think I can continue the video.
You could do the Hollows from Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. It would be nice to see how you'd represent them with the description they have.
oh yeah they'd be cool to see drawn
+
definitely. I watched the (poorly done) movie before I read the first three books and I had a bit of an issue when comparing the monsters in the movie to their description in the books.
Yes!
Or a Myrddraal
I LOVE this series! Never fails to amaze me how the description often makes me wonder but then the picture works so well...
The Thestrel was my favorite.
honestly that toothless looks supprisingly like the one from the book that the author drew
Which is probably a big compliment for the author. It means they did a great job explaining what it looks like.
@@schrodingerskatze4308 yea cowel was a good writer and honestly it’s a disappointment that the films aren’t more accurate I would have loved to see it
I never knew there was books.
Out of all of your drawings your thestral is my favourite I like the fact that you made snoke all around it
I’d love to watch you guys do the Emperor of Mankind from Warhammer!
How i would describe the emperor:
A man about 10 feet tall
Long black hair that turns gold at the roots
looks about to be in his late 20s to early 30s
Glowing golden eyes
A large "halo" behind his head as if he was standing in front of a miniature sun
Heavily adorned by think golden armor
Large royal looking cape flowing down to the ground
A large metal claw on his left hand
A flaming great sword about the size of the average man in the other hand
maybe a before and after picture :)
Yeessss
Give him multiple prompts, each one a different holistic description of the Emperor.
Knowing the world of Wheel of Time, most probably most their creations do live in that universe the way they have made them 😃
That was me for the thestrals
I felt so freaking smart when I realized what it was
I wanted to explain to him that the OR is not because the creature is confusing or described by different people, but because there are many of them with many variations!
I’m not a massive fan of the first season…but I have to admit that it is pretty cool to see WOT characters entering public consciousness if only in a small way.
Never before have references randomly popped up in unrelated media I consume.
I was so happy with the trollocs
I'd love to see Jazza draw either anime characters or obscure Disney characters. The thought of him drawing someone like Zoro from One Piece or the big whale villain from Lilo and Stich just makes me laugh so hard
Wait do you mean Gantu?
Interesting thing about the book's description of Toothless, it fits nearly perfectly accurate the look of Terrible Terrors in the HTTYD movies
The "a" in the first syllable sounds like the "a" in "father", The "e" at the end would sound like the "e" in "pet" or "get." So, the approximate pronunciation would be "dah-kel." Hunters and associations however, mostly refer to the Dackel as Teckel (pronounced like the english "tackle".
so it's not pronounced dash ow-nd?
In the US: dock-sun
Just to make sure how you pronounce it here it is in phronetic transcription:
[ ˈdakshʊnt ]
@@xyreniaofcthrayn1195 nope, not at all. It's a common mistake to read the first "chs" and misread it like the German "sch" which is the same as English "sh". But it's in fact the German "ch" (pronounced kh) with an s after it, followed by "hund". Dakh-s-hund
I'm very hurt of the fact that toothless is called a monster
Yh same...WHY?!
As a german I will tell you how to pronounce Dachshund ;)
Dachshund = Dachs (engl. Badger) + Hund (engl. Dog) were used to hunt down badgers. They are small enough to follow the badgers into their dens.
"Dachs" is prononced like "Ducks" (multiple birds) and
"Hund" is pronounced like "Hood", but with a short vowel and an N between the U and the D
English speakers laugh at me whenever I pronounce it as "Dachs - Hund."
Dock Sunned (getting a nice suntan on the dock) (:
I'm sorry but you are completely wrong. Dachshund is actually pronounced: Dacks-Hund
I’ve always said it like that but when speaking quickly it sounds like doxen
Just say Dackel - prunounced like duckle
I guessed these 3 for 3 from the descriptions and as someone who loves The Wheel Of Time, I thought the Trolloc depiction was spot on! I love this series and always check it out when you drop a new vid, can't wait for the next one Jazza, you're so talented!
For toothless, the version Jazza drew is almost identical to the book drawing version

If toothless (the movie version) was in the books I feel like he would be more of a windwalker
And if toothless (book version) was in the films then he would definitely be a terrible terror

Reminds me of a happier Spyro

I encourage you to send the painting of Toothless to the author! I think you nailed the book description very well!
I'm curious how you would represent Goblins/Orcs from the different descriptions in the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings - especially if you treat the descriptions separately (i.e. descriptions of Moria orcs differently than Mordor, differently than Goblins in the Misty Mountains, etc...)
For those ordering the pro sketch pack from south africa. Please keep in mind it will take about 2 months to arrive. And the customs will likely be over R500. But i can confirm it is definitely worth it!

To make that more interesting, the description sounded like the small dragons from the move and show
@@jamisoncohen611 no its the exact description toothless had in the book (:
Now guys this is the real comment! Please don't like the copy, this is the original😄
Thank you for showing my drawing!!
So many awesome contributions! 🤘
It would be really interesting to see some Discworld characters, as Pratchett tends to create rather unique, exaggerated characters, I would be particularly interested in seeing what you think of Igor:
.Hands like they'd been in an industrial accident
.Looked like they'd been horrifically mutilated
.Two thumbs on each hand
Etc...
Ooh! Good idea, another character could be Om when/while he regains power:
. Theophany
. A cloud of golden horns, eagle-headed men, and bulls fusing into each other
. Shimmering golden figure
. As tall as the temple
. Fiery
Yes! I'd commented this on the last time he did this. Terry Pratchett's descriptions are great!
Agreed! Love Pratchett and his characters are so unique so would be interesting seeing what he comes up with
Even some of Lady Sybil's dragons (Errol in particular)
@@LizardWizard. I'd love to see Om
I absolutely love all these monsters, they look so flipping cool!
I have a massive Harry Potter book and the head of that thestral looks exactly like the one you drew and the author praised its accuracy so well done
What does it mean when I got a Thestral as my patronus?
@@novemberoscar98 somethins off
@@novemberoscar98 When it comes to the Thestral Patronus’s meaning, it is generally associated with death and considered a bad omen since only the wizards who have witnessed death and accepted the concept of death can see this creature.
TROLLOCS! As soon as I saw the description, I knew it was for a trolloc! I love how Jazza’s version came out.
Right there with you
The thing is, thestrals are suposed to look kinda scary but they're really kind and gentle, there might be a ton of metaphor between this and how we perceive death or grief. I think that's why, in the movies, they prefered to go with something not that "deathly", that and also the target audience
@@muriloolianivock89 that makes sense
i realised when Jazza finished his interpretation!! such cool creatures
I agree, his thestral is very impressive. So cool!
The Toothless description should have added that it was a facade because Toothless is the LEAST bit innocent
There he is! There's our beloved common or garden toothless daydream! You've absolutely nailed him, the little menace
It looks just like him! :D
They’re all very unique and I think Jazza’s take on them would look great
Ooh, it has been so long since I read that book, but those would be awesome!
1000x yes! This book is so underrated... Third part is kind of dissaointing but the first two are great and introduce such a n interesting universe! There is also definitely too few fanarts of it.
Thanks for reminding me that I was wanting to read those!
Nice to see a book accurate Toothless! The films are hardly like the books. They’re almost the exact opposite in some cases.
They're actually closer to the story of Hiccup the First funnily enough.

@@blizzardgaming7070 Oh right, I like the films and the books, but if the films were like the books they’d be awful tbh.

That's not quite true. There's a similar story in the backstory as an easter egg, but it's not at all identical. Wodensfang is not literally movie Toothless, and Hiccup I is not literally movie Hiccup.

They are different universes entirely, even if there is a very similar relationship to Toothless and Hiccup from the movies described from history, it isn’t canon.

Lol
I knew Jazza was extremely talented, but I'm really impressed by the talent of his viewers too. Great work from all of you guys in the contest!
@Paristheninjanerd i agree so much
I think that'd be sic. I remember being so weirded out seeing the more "Until Dawn"ish more traditional wendigo. Also, apparently most natives don't like the more modern pop culture wendigo because the deerskull and antlers are very pagan which is the opposite of what they want for their folklore
@@Big_ol_Yams I think the traditional one is more terrifying because it's more humanoid and emphasizes the origin as a human turned into a monster.
Your videos are always refreshing Jazza, and it's fun to see you sketch your ideas out and bring them to life.
Love seeing you work.
Yes the movie is only very vaguely based off of the book
that gecko with the "spike" eyelashes is called a crested gecko. the "spikes" they have on their eyes and the sides of their head/back are called crests and are actually very soft. my crested gecko LOVES when i give him little rubs on the side of his body just enough on his little crests. the other gecko was a leopard gecko. they are very fun little guys but usually get neglected as pet stores give out the wrong care for these guys the most.
I can't help but think that Shad was the one who deviously set the Trolloc as the prompt for everybody to draw
Truly enjoying this iteration of your channel. Your sketches are wonderful. Your personality and explanations are fun and interesting.
Damn it, I would have bet on one of the creatures from "Shadows of the Colossus". 😭 I'm loving this series!!!! Your drawings are stunning and make me keep wanting to draw for fun even if I suck!
Thankyou so much for making the pro sketchpack it as given me sooo much joy
I would love to see Jazza draw a Fathier from Star Wars The Last Jedi. They’re one of my favorite creatures and honestly so unique.
Don't get me started on Toothless. The books are goated. He should totally do more HTTYD, and compare to the book artwork too.
Thank you ❤
The Toothless that you drew was the book Toothless not the movie one
I never understood why they had to call the movie "How to Train Your Dragon" even though most of the stuff shown wasn't part of the source material.
It felt like half the characters in the film weren't in the books and the other half had been altered in ways that made them unrecognizable without their names.
Yes, that's the point of these videos. Drawing characters as described in the books
I just discovered this series and I love it!!! Please do more of these as you are doing a lot of monster characters from books justice!!! And it is fun to guess them when you draw them
I wish he showed a pic of book toothless to compare to his version, since that's where the description is from
Same. The whole series is illustrated!
I always enjoy these character design sessions, they remind me of old Draw with Jazza times, and also of Paladin and Larry and the gnomes games Jazza created. With these new facilities and never ending inspiration, it would be wonderful to see new game from Jazza.
would love to see you draw a Kappa or more monsters from folklore
You did really well with the Thestral from Harry Potter. That's exactly what I imagined when I was reading the books.
Oh my gosh my favourite film followed by the book series I’m currently obsessing over. All the things I love in one video ! ❤
How have you managed to create a dragon that looks cuter than toothless? 🥺
Because he IS Toothless! Widdle Toothless is the cutest dragon of all!
Try to draw biblically accurate angels. I'm curious to see how you'll draw then from how there described

I knew 3 was a Thestral the second you read the description for it. It’s my Patronus. You did an amazing job at creating your own version of it!
Could you please do The Wendigo from Algernon Blackwoods book because it’s not like the wendigo you see in most media it’s rarely seen and mostly described as an analogy for the terror of the nature around the hunters. I would also highly recommend the book!
I love Jazza's 2nd monster so much. Its so badass
The Terrible terror from HTTYD was actually designed after the Toothless described in the book.
So that one would be a better comparison as book version vs movie version
As a German, this is probably the most adorable pronunciation of "Dachshound" XD (Dachs is sorta pronounced like "ducks" and hound like, well hound)
That aside - marvellous art as always, Jazza!
Great work!
I’m so happy that I guessed the trollic prompt correctly. I’ve been listening to the audio book of Wheel of Time and it’s phenomenal!
