What's better too is that this piece is actually the first official Half-Life 2 artwork ever made. In 1998 before production of HL2 even really began and everyone was making different ideas and concepts that were real messes finally Viktor Antonov made this based off of one idea for the world presented by Mark Laidlaw. The two presented this as a showcase to the world and vibe of HL2 to Gabe and he greenlit the project.
This ambient sound is a gem. So atmospheric and dark 'cause HL2 Beta has that tone to which I imagine how its released could have turned out. A horror game basically it would have been.
This isn't actual beta ambience, there never was a beta soundtrack that was leaked, the one passed around is a fake, this is from another game entirely, yet does fit atleast
Hl2 beta isnt horror the setting is just very grim and oppressive basically how a real opressive alien regime like the combine would be instead of the watered down one in the retail hl2
@@imonke5303 This is a real song, I checked the mega build files for it and it’s there, and most importantly the date it was las modified on was September 21st, 2003.
This is what it means to feel absolute disparity and fear in a post-war apocalypse the beta tried to portray. Even if the game was just mostly 1984 with Half-Life sprinkled onto it, I don't mind it, and selfishly wished it came out the way they intended at first. I love you all beta fans more than anything else.
This music is unsettling on the same level as the "Space Queens" for "Sonic X-treme". It feels like you looking into another world. The timeline, that never came to be.
ironically, I think the opposite would be true, if say the beta and retail were flipped, people would probably be fascinated by our retail version just like how we are fascinated by the beta
Perhaps the actions of beta take place in America, but on the map from Half Life Alix it is drawn that where in America it is not known what is happening there
This cut level would have been amazing. As you approach the cliff corner you see the site, and further realise the extent of how much power the combine have over Earth. The complete and utter disregard for humanity. The complete selflessness and irreversible change to the atmosphere.
honestly i prefer the original, this is a bit too smeared and covered in reverb for me, but it's still pretty well done. as soon as we get neural network audio upscaling i'm slamming ambient1 in it so i can listen to it in a bitrate that wouldn't embarrass a 30s era gramophone
The half-life 2 beta ambience 1 song may be a beta version of Vivx song 3 as at 0:54 it sounds similar to the 00:10 of ambience 01 please tell me if you hear it.
Axel wasn't responsible for the switch from the American setting to the Eastern European one. Valve already made that setting switch by mid-2002, a whole year before the 2003 leak actually occurred.

Holy shit this sounds so much like dusks ambient music, and it looks like the episode 2 structures, especially Neo-babel
yeah it does
The artwork, wow... The beta's atmosphere was really something else, wish they made it into the final game

Working on a game engine for my own vision of HL2 :]
Wish they make two awesome different games. Beta would be a nice horror in some other occupied city on Earth or completely another dystopian game
The art reminds me of the old Fallout games from the 90s
@@k4rn31ro8 the artwork also gives the atmosphere and vibe of the first 2 Fallouts and Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas
Man, nothing will ever compare to this series. So much personality
something about the original's loudness sort of added to the charm, but hey, at least it's nice to not hear the compression itself
if youre talking about the hissy aliasing and quantization error noise i think that makes it much more appealing personally
I can hear Dark Interval somewhere in there.
Couldn't agree more
@@die_lokki287 It's at minute 1:15
Yeah, it really does sounds like an EATEOT version of Dark Interval.

"It's just a game, the beta building was just a beta building."
The beta build of the game:
nobody is saying this are you schizophrenic
I mean, they were literally throwing shit at the wall and tossing out whatever didn’t work
Damn this is amazing. Thank you for your work.
If the old storyline made it to retail, I would of shit my pants every time I played it

love how hopeless this sounds, amazing
they really took inspiration from this for hl alyx soundtracks

Sublime track. Peak HL2 beta vibes
damn, I never expect you to be here.
Honestly a perfect track if someone wanted to make an SFM or like a mod set during the 7 hour war.
I actually just listened to this because it's in the files for 2001 Half Life 2
Honestly this sounds like it’s from Stalker
This should be in Raising the Bar: Redux
Yeah, definitely
Well RTBR hasn't gotten to the Air Exchange yet, so ya never know
we can dream about what if half life 2 actually are the original beta
I always wanted to see in what kind of desolate state they left the america's in after the 7 hour war.

More specifically the tracks:
Supersymmetry Dilation
2050's soundtrack
Lore of Half-Life 2 Beta - Airex Reactor / ambient1.wav Restored momentum 100
I cant tell if i like the restored version or the original more
It's more coherent when you increase speed and tempo 2x in Audacity.
so dark and evil
Sounds like Resident Evil. Love it!
Deep dark fantasy
That looks American
This is half life 2 beta City 17 New York .
It is because HL2 beta city 17 was based on New York,Chicago and so
Average Romanian city😊
Nah this is normal nyc
Ukraine...
