      It slowed the gameplay CONSIDERABLY.
The preventive stuff, were Oxygen Masks, that required Ore and a Dupe to make, and a gas pump to feed them the O2, this straight up forced a far more laser focused Tech Tree development in the T1 to T2 to start progress at making headway past the starting biome. And also required VERY much you have the dupes CLEAN themselves to avoid infecting others as the Gas mask didn't isolate the dupes at all, just stopped them from inhalling slimelung with the pO2.
If you got a dupe infected, then you HAD to have a medical specialized dupe, an apothecary building and a medbay so the medic dupe could treat the infected one. More resources and even more forced laser focus in research, and the materials to make a cure were expensive/rare for early game stages.

thats not right. the oxygen mask didnt even come out till after they nerfed it or atleast around the same time if not the same update.@@andrehashimoto8056
I believe the actual reason is that they nerfed many things in the game making the whole game generally easier. a long time ago like 5 or 6 years ago the game was extremely difficult with a steep learning curve. I believe they nerfed everything to make it more accessible to new players.
For me it really hurt the replayability in a negative way. the game is so easy now its not challenging at all its just tedius and theres still a steep learning curve anyway so idk how much it really solved. I wish they had just made better settings. now all the settings do is increase the likelyhood of catching slimelung but it still does nothing and i almost completely ignore slimelung and i disable cleaning in every game and never had an issue lol.

It's quite safe to dig out if you allow to to drop into a pool of liquid. So long as your dupes don't pick it up, they won't get covered in germs, and it won't offgas into the atmosphere.
Since all you can really do with it is turn it to algae or mushrooms, I'm content to just leave it. Swamp biome - conquered.

I remember when it was just introduced to the game and basically whenever any duplicant went into the slime biome the entire colony got sick, requiring either a suit, a few wash basons, and an ore scrubber to actually go into the biome effectively

Totally, it used to be really bad when the game first came out if you weren't careful. I remember having to ban certain duplicants from entering the Slime area because of how much exposure they had, and having to build all kinds of wacky med bays to deal with it.

  • @commonsense-og1gz

    1. slime is not early game exclusive. 6 pufts can support an entire colony of 25 dupes on nearly 70 dusk caps (without micronutrient and fried mushrooms).
    2. slime is better than everything, other than ethanol distillers at producing dirt.
    3. it can be fed to oakshells for lumber when there are no arbors.
    4. it can be fed to sage hatches for a full 140 kg if coal.
    5. potable water source for temporary metal refinery setups, or off asteroid water source.
there are a ton of reasons to have slime.

3 sinks>3 O2 masks>water lock> buddy buddy> 2 deoderiser. This would be a proper exit from anymain base and if you don't want any slimelung in the base, and that is wise... take care. or dupes will enter the swamp, become contaminated, pick up something to store contaminating that then wash but still introduce germs into the colony as they will piggyback on anything. Then poof all your hard work is shot and there is slimelung on your diffusers and water pump then its everywhere. I use door permissions at this stage becauze I want the polluted water for thimble and to seive so no dupe going past the gate is allowed to life support or store or they will bring things into the colony..

  • @OgdenM
    @OgdenM Год назад +1

Slime lung isn't much of a big deal compared to how it used to be. However, it still causes stress. The stress can make your dupes freak out and it's just not worth dealing with.
There is NO reason to leave the safe biome until AFTER you at least have Oxygen masks to keep them from getting exposed to Slime lung.
Seriously, just wait to go out of the starter biome! Focus research on the o2 masks and farming and food stuff.
Also, make some kind of air lock going into the swamp biome... Dealing with Po2 in your base is a waste of time and resources.. Just keep it out.
I'm on my 2nd colony and it's so nice to not have to worry about my dupes getting stressed and puking or peeing everywhere.
Also, do NOT rip out the natural plants in and around your base. Make sure every exit goes through a park or nature reserve. Scatter them through out the map and your base.
The morale boost doesn't stack... But it doesn't last all cycle so it's good to have them scattered around because you never know when the boost will wear off.. And it's a super easy early game way to keep morale up.
... And it doesn't matter if the plants in the parks are actively growing... They just have to be present.
I didn't even bother with a mess hall until cycle 450 because of parks And only training my dupes in stuff they like. Then got a great Hall.
They still use outhouses and are super high morale still.

Technically, it produces polluted oxygen as soon as it is exposed/uncovered, not "mined out" while this may seem like the same thing, in game "mining" is "to dig it" while exposing it is to "mine" a tile next to it.

    • @1SimpleGamer

Nah it doesn’t off gas as a tile, if other solids touch it they may pickup slimelung but it isn’t like oxylite where it spews from the natural tile when exposed
