same. i saw them live last weekend and this song was most definitely the highlight of the show for me. this is one song of theirs i always forget about, and then when i hear it i'm always blown away by how fantastic it is.
It’s rare to find a great marriage of music and lyric but James Mercer knocks it out of the park every single time. Best song to sing over and over on road trips!
Also my favourite song from them. And I must say, a pretty decent version for such a complicated vocal melody. Kudos for the fantastic songwriting and adaptation.
After all these implements and texts designed by intellects So vexed to find evidently there's still so much that hides And though the saints dub us divine in ancient fading lines Their sentiment is just as hard to pluck from the vine I'll try hard not to pretend Allow myself no mock defense As I step into the night Since I don't have the time nor mind to figure out the nursery rhymes That helped us out in making sense of our lives The cruel, uneventful state of apathy releases me I value them but I won't cry every time one's wiped out I'll try hard not to give in Batten down to fare the wind Rid my head of this pretense Allow myself no mock defense As I step into the night But Mercy's eyes are blue when she places them in front of you Nothing holds a Roman candle to the solemn warmth you feel inside There's no measuring of it as nothing else is love I'll try hard not to give in Batten down to fare the wind Rid my head of this pretense Allow myself no mock defense As I step into the night Mercy's eyes are blue when she places them in front of you Nothing really holds a candle to the solemn warmth you feel inside you
I’d agree somewhat, for me port of morrow was okay, not as good as vintage shins but I think their flipped version of their new album, the worms heart is solid, almost as good as vintage shins
i respect your band, the shins, why can you not respect mine? and can i ask why they are "the worst", i like chill music and maybe their lyrics arn't the best but they sound good
I have immersed myself lately in the Shin’s music. My only criticism is the drummer, his arsenal is very basic and limited. He doesn't lead the rhythm, instead he follows the rest of the band. Otherwise I find then original and innovative, like them a lot.
I especially love this version of Saint Simon because of the keyboards. James Mercer is just an inspirational songwriter
this could very well be my favorite song of theirs.
its melancholy, its got a terrific melody & vocal phrasings. its overall just a solid song.
kudos.

Same here, it reminds me my platonic love ;_; I’m happy to love him but also it’s a bit painful like this song
I'll go ahead and state that it IS my favorite Shins song. Hands down.
It’s rare to find a great marriage of music and lyric but James Mercer knocks it out of the park every single time.
Best song to sing over and over on road trips!
Great performance. The whole Letterman performance is so good.
Also my favourite song from them. And I must say, a pretty decent version for such a complicated vocal melody. Kudos for the fantastic songwriting and adaptation.
Richard Swift on the keys. What a loss. Sad day.
It's just a masterpiece the whole set on Letterman is amazing.
James' live vocals are perfect. Love it!
so graceful, so beautiful, so perfect
Such great backup vocals. This band is brilliant, i hope that this lineup will stick!
Seeing them tomorrow, I may cry
AdzBrandMusic I'm seeing them live this November. Might cry as well.
Chutes Too Narrow is such a damn good album
Happy Birthday James Mercer. RIP Richard Swift
1200 times I listen to this song not tired...
It's just...... beautiful.....like a butterfly on the flower ^^
James Mercer you have such a great voice and the band is backing u up in this performance is awesome too. Best wished to u all ;)
Saint Simon 's Masterpiece 😮😮 🎶🎵
Best. Song. Ever. Created
Excellent morceau, un bijou!
drummer is joe plummer, was with modest mouse a while. good stuff
This song is a masterpiece
Beautiful song
Love this band
amazing
Bloody awesome song.
Great version and lineup
Great performance
How do I triple "like"?
First. I'm proud of it. I love the Shins.
What a fantastic performance ❤️✨
I like this version.
Rest In peace Richard Swift
What a song!
My favorite Shins song.
It's great
Love
Magnifico
After all these implements and texts designed by intellects
So vexed to find evidently there's still so much that hides
And though the saints dub us divine in ancient fading lines
Their sentiment is just as hard to pluck from the vine
I'll try hard not to pretend
Allow myself no mock defense
As I step into the night
Since I don't have the time nor mind to figure out the nursery rhymes
That helped us out in making sense of our lives
The cruel, uneventful state of apathy releases me
I value them but I won't cry every time one's wiped out
I'll try hard not to give in
Batten down to fare the wind
Rid my head of this pretense
Allow myself no mock defense
As I step into the night
But Mercy's eyes are blue when she places them in front of you
Nothing holds a Roman candle to the solemn warmth you feel inside
There's no measuring of it as nothing else is love
I'll try hard not to give in
Batten down to fare the wind
Rid my head of this pretense
Allow myself no mock defense
As I step into the night
Mercy's eyes are blue when she places them in front of you
Nothing really holds a candle to the solemn warmth you feel inside you
Some line up changes?
I remember them performing this on the Burn to Shine series and it was just as awesome, bit quicker but, hey, good good good!
Incrível
Briljant. Briljant.
How close of friends do u think these musicians are?
who is that beautiful woman on the guitar?
i miss the old lineup :/
I know seriously, wish they were still together....
Cool song. The girl reminds me of a young Gillian Gilbert from New Order.
I like this one better than the recorded version
It has a Elliott Smith vibe. I dig it.
"Nothing holds a Roman Candle to the solemn warmth you feel inside" is probably a nod at Elliott Smith too.
What is that Woman guitarist name?? i wish i was in a band with her. i wish i could marry her...she is Awesome!!! thanks for posting
Where is the mexican drumer
Does anyone know what guitar he is playing?
Guild Starfire.
is she playing a Danelectro?
what is her name??? i have a crush on her. it looks that way. she is so talented and pretty

F for Richard

The most beautiful part of this is Jessica dobson.
The drummer has a huge resemblance to Garreth Minor.
it's not the same greatness as the old lineup...only my opinion.
Yes sir you are correct.
have they ever tried some more chill music like slighty stoopid i feel like if they took an angle like that it would sound killer
The shins lost all of their charm without the original lineup for me. The first three albums were amazing though.
What Doth Life you reckon? Simple song, 40 Mark strasse, half a million, rifles spiral, painting a hole, port of morrow
All amazing songs
What Doth Life Port of Morrow is incredible. Mercer is still the one writing all the songs. Heartworms was good, too.
I’d agree somewhat, for me port of morrow was okay, not as good as vintage shins but I think their flipped version of their new album, the worms heart is solid, almost as good as vintage shins
I really want to disagree but I just... can't. POM was decent. Mildenhall is o e if the best Shins songs ever but the rest is just meh.
@@musicvideoessays2632 The Rifle's Spiral and Simple Song are both especially great.
The Rifle's Spiral is one of their best overall.
A really cool Sheldon Cooper ;)
I love this song but they had really low energy playing it on Letterman
Thats a shame. Just playing song? Or while playing the consert in generel?
i respect your band, the shins, why can you not respect mine? and can i ask why they are "the worst", i like chill music and maybe their lyrics arn't the best but they sound good
