Isn't it beautiful when you love the way a band sounds recorded, and then you hear them playing live and they sound just as awesome, if not even better?
Everyone always says this and in 99% of cases the band never sounds better live. Not the band's fault or lack of talent, studio releases are just designed to sound better is all.
I am an older guy and listened to music for many years and I have had some of my friends say, "They don't make good music anymore". I don't reply but think to myself you are not listening. This band and this song performance is an amazing example of how good music is today. I have listened and watched it over and over.
Remember walking a mile to your house a glow in the dark I made a fumbling play for your heart and the act struck a spark..the all empowering ultimate hail mary
Aryaman Sinha “the axe struck a spark”. The metaphor intensifies the adjective “fumbling” of the previous line: he is like something madly chopping wood and missing, but he succeeds in spite of himself. This is real poetry.
THIS IS INCREDIBLE! The whole band is super skilled with their respective roles. And the lead singer plays guitar AND hits every note, has breathing techniques on spot etc. What a performance of a BEAUTIFUL song!
Well this is just a simple song To say what you've done I told you about all those fears And away they did run You sure must be strong When you feel like an ocean being warmed by the sun When I was just nine-years-old I swear that I dreamt Your face on a football field And a kiss that I kept Under my vest; Apart from everything But the heart in my chest I know that things can really get rough when you go it alone Don't go thinking you gotta be tough, and bleed like a stone Could be there’s nothing else in our lives, so critical As this little home My life in an upturned boat Marooned on a cliff You brought me a great big flood And you gave me a lift Girl, what a gift! You tell me with your tongue And your breath was in my lungs And we float up through the rift I know that things can really get rough when you go it alone Don't go thinking you gotta be tough, and bleed like a stone Could be there's nothing else in our lives, so critical As this little home Well this would be a simple song To say what you've done I told you about all those fears And away they did run You sure must be strong When you feel like an ocean being warmed by the sun Remember walking a mile to your house Aglow in the dark I made a fumbling play for your heart And the act struck a spark You wore a charm on the chain that I stole Especial for you Love's such a delicate thing that we do With nothing to prove Which I never knew
As soon as I hear that they're touring again, I'm buying tickets. I can't wait for their next album, whenever they decide to make it! One of the best looking bands out there
They better come to Ireland or somewhere close! Haha. Yeah, well Mercer's just released "After The Disco" with Broken Bells back in February of this year so I'd say another Shins album will be another year or two yet. :P
The crowd shot killed me! If I had the opportunity to see the shins I'd be going wild. Poor people did not understand the gift that was bestowed unto them that day.
+Nina March I did just that: sang along with every song, dancing in my seat, it was so amazing! I hope they tour again, that concert was incredible. This was Cleveland, 2012. I also saw the band at the hotel bar before the show, but I didn't want to say something stupid so I just walked by them. I wish I had said something!!
James's voice is incredible. It's such a luxury being able to sing just about any note you want to. I love to sing, but I certainly can't do that! Personnel Lead vocals / rhythm guitar: James Mercer Lead guitar / backing vocals: Jessica Dobson Keyboard / backing vocals: Richard Swift (died 2018 RIP) Bass guitar / backing vocals: Yuuki Matthews Drums / backing vocals: Joe Plummer
Delighted to see the Shins, particularly James Mercer, go from strength to strength over the years (the Shins members from the O,IW! days have since departed); you now hear them in the mainstream like the new Spiderman movie and HIMYM and this is great because the world needs more music that makes you think while tapping your feet and nobody provides it like Mercer.
Great voice, never get bored of it. Seem like a nice bunch of lads as well. Did someone miss a chord there at the end, brilliant, just like me when im playing. Maybe theres a future for me in music after all.
Conheci essa banda em 10/07/18 através do Spotify, estava passando por algumas dificuldades da vida, com essa musica me deu uma energia positiva para sorrir para a vida, ganhou mais um fã aqui no Brasil.
It's quite a shame you don't see much of this kind of enthusiasm in bands and crowds getting excited over such bands or just bands in general at this day and age
Rest in peace Richard Swift (on keys)
Richard Swift will always be remembered. Such a gifted musician. Gone so soon.
Innalillahi wa innailaihi ra jiun
Isn't it beautiful when you love the way a band sounds recorded, and then you hear them playing live and they sound just as awesome, if not even better?
Yes better than those boneheaded mumble rappers
When a band sounds better live than recording, that's a band!
It's the keys
Its alot of rock bands. You just need good mixing.
What a great fucking song
Bravo Shins!

The little yellow bus.
The bass.
The ukulele.
The English muffin.
The umbrella.
And this is the song.

I'm here because of HIMYM, but I'm SO GLAD for that, because Shins is just spectacular!!!!

If I ever get married, I want this to be my wedding song
Iunia Bujita this song was actually my wedding song.
Agreed! I’ll marry you 😍
@@dewiethedewz1777 were already married
Did you?
Great choice, it was mine too
I’m a woman and I can only just belt those high notes! He has an amazing range, unreal.
This song will forever be one of my favorites
RIP Richard. Thanks for making so much of my favorite music
There are a dozen songs that will forever be on my top ten list.....this is one of them.
There's a charisma about the band, a sort of geeky playfulness that mere enthusiasm can't beat, that makes The Shins so unique.
Your comment is underrated
Sooooooo well said! ❤️
Can we appreciate the drummer back there just going ham
Finally, some proper music, great singing and no auto tune
THIS IS INCREDIBLE!
The whole band is super skilled with their respective roles. And the lead singer plays guitar AND hits every note, has breathing techniques on spot etc.
What a performance of a BEAUTIFUL song!
we need The Shins back!
New album coming in January got pushed back because of Coachella 2017.
Well this is just a simple song
To say what you've done
I told you about all those fears
And away they did run
You sure must be strong
When you feel like an ocean being warmed by the sun
When I was just nine-years-old
I swear that I dreamt
Your face on a football field
And a kiss that I kept
Under my vest;
Apart from everything
But the heart in my chest
I know that things can really get rough when you go it alone
Don't go thinking you gotta be tough, and bleed like a stone
Could be there’s nothing else in our lives, so critical
As this little home
My life in an upturned boat
Marooned on a cliff
You brought me a great big flood
And you gave me a lift
Girl, what a gift!
You tell me with your tongue
And your breath was in my lungs
And we float up through the rift
I know that things can really get rough when you go it alone
Don't go thinking you gotta be tough, and bleed like a stone
Could be there's nothing else in our lives, so critical
As this little home
Well this would be a simple song
To say what you've done
I told you about all those fears
And away they did run
You sure must be strong
When you feel like an ocean being warmed by the sun
Remember walking a mile to your house
Aglow in the dark
I made a fumbling play for your heart
And the act struck a spark
You wore a charm on the chain that I stole
Especial for you
Love's such a delicate thing that we do
With nothing to prove
Which I never knew
What a voice! Just as good live as on record.
one ticket to Farhampton please...

Great.
The bass es extremely good in this underrated song, it leads through all the song, very good song. Great band.
That voice, unreal.
Sounds real to me, lol. 😁
The lead singers vocal range is AMAZING . . .
R.I.P Richard Swift respect from Turkey
This song is what I imagine falling in love feels like. Every time I hear it it transforms my mood completely. Makes you feel young and alive
I’m in love with that woman on guitar
I never tire of this song.....
RIP Richard
James Mercer is one of the few vocalists who are even better live than in studio
As soon as I hear that they're touring again, I'm buying tickets. I can't wait for their next album, whenever they decide to make it! One of the best looking bands out there

The ending is just perfect, loved the lyrics
One of my top 10 songs of the 10's decade.
Idk why, but I get so emotional whenever I watch the live version of this song.
The crowd shot killed me! If I had the opportunity to see the shins I'd be going wild. Poor people did not understand the gift that was bestowed unto them that day.

That crowd was lost, had no idea what they were witnessing.
Sheimer Like, aloof zombies when there's no human in sight.
“Look at me guys! I’m so weird and out of the norm hehe xD”
Hearing song as great as this. Brings tears to my eyes.

Ironically, lead vocalist James Mercer said the bridge for "Simple Song" was the most difficult part to finish.
well do you hear how high and belted that chorus is lol
but its the best part
That’s like the least ironic thing in the world.
@@akshaybhagwat8841 haha
What is the bridge?
So much of this song reminds me of "Gone for good" The melody, some of way he sings and phrases bits etc
I wish I could hit those high notes. It's a good song, but the chorus crushes it so amazingly that it makes it a GREAT song.
RIP RICH SWIFT 😪🤟🎹🎼
THE ACOUSTIC versions with just JAMES... kills!
This song is not easy to sing live, im wuite impressed how true their sound is to the studio
Megan Rapinoe's Nike video introduced me to The Shins. Can't help but feel happy when I hear this song.
This is my favorite song forever and ever!
A rare modern band that doesn't sound like ass live....talent, integrity & taste....way to go guys👍🏻😼
You’re crazy. So many bands kick ass live

Has to be one of the best songs in a long time!! I am obsessed!!LOL!! Love the band. Indie Rock rules!!!!!!!!!!!
The chorus just has such an awesome hook to it.
Such an incredible song.
Whoa, they're awesome live.
Sounds so much better alive... I wish all the song would be like this
"Love's such a delicate thing that we do, we've nothing to prove" :(

Amazing voice- seriously the very best voice out there right now. Just amazing.
Can't stop watching this.
it's like vampire weekend meets band of horses. amazing music!
He looks strikingly like a shrunken hugh jackman. And i love it.

The drummer is just insane!!!
just close your eyes and listen to this amazing song.
Awesome! Nice to see other people embracing new music, too.
This is so beautiful!
I wish people my age listened to more bands like this
this guys voice is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING
I respect him so much for doing the high part on the chorus, live.
CoshishVEVO brought me here! beautiful sound.
Bela música e bela execução
Ao vivo poucas bandas têm um desempenho tão bom
great song....that chorus is just flat out large, and in charge.
So psyched to see you in Austin!! 💛

That is a damn fine band
I'm so in love with this song !!!!
Awesome.
No dislikes, lets hope this never changes.
And The Shins predate both of those bands, too! Band of Horses got a lot of their sound from James Mercer/The Shins :)
Well impressed with this live performance of one of my fave tunes. He manages to hit all the highs (and lows). Nice work.
Such a great song
Impecable!
Great performance
That piano though
This sounds great live. Ooo, I play C&C drums too. Good choice.
Great performance!
I love your idea @TheShins on your video for this song! I love this band!
this is an amazing song, not just simple.
I am so in love with this song :)
How I Met Your Mother brought me to this incredible song!
