Sounds just like their record. No bullshit fake recordings, just the same exact sound. This is why indie and brit-pop should rule the world. Not today's modern rock trash.
I recently went to see the Shins play in Nashville on a tour date for their 21st anniversary of Oh Inverted World. It was a good show, glad I went, I've been a fan since their Flake Music days. There was one thing that bothered me as they played their way through the Oh Inverted World album song by song, the drummer (from Modest Mouse) was way too animated and overbearing. Whether James Mercer likes it or not Jesse Sandovol's low-energy drumming style was part of the magical sound that The Shins captured in their first two albums.
This fast version is absolutely excellent. I love this version. I can’t stop imagining this being in the golden state killer movie, “step into the night”. Gives me chills.
This sounds nothing like their record. First off, the tempo is like double(and the female backup vocals entirely), missing minor instruments, etc. Have you heard their record version of Saint Simon? I'm not saying this is bad, just that it's nothing like it.
One of favorite Shins song, god do I love this band. I was a bit disappointed in their last record, really hope the new one blows my brain.

expdh1 I really wonder what you considered rock trash 8 years ago
That tempo caught me by surprise
On ne s'en lasse pas!
damn, the old band sounded so good.
Agreed, does anyone know why this line up changed?
@@Fredthe99th James fired the rest of them
@@LEDUMM this version of the band is great; who are they?
Oh what I would give to be able to sing like James...
How they scored that tiny house with the perfect outside view to shoot this video I will never know.
@alayduhh
Don't you know? Ugly people make better music. There are no exceptions to this rule.
whoa. I thought it was 1996.. oh that's not weezer either..
Haters gonna hate.
I love the ingenious of The Shins but the tempo on this track is too fast and doesn't do it any justice.
+petestrat07 I agree man. that's a very spot on observation.

that's not the guy from MM (Joe Plummer). the drummer for quite a while has been Jon Sortland. he also plays with Mercer in Broken Bells
I like it played at this quicker tempo.

He's so amazingly talented.

The Decemberists - Mariners Revenge Song
Is amazing!
A fellow fan of both I see

That guitar from the lead singer looks like that model bob marley had. He had the same pickups in his guit.

@expdh1 it sounds way better than the record to me

Ok, greetings, pal
I love the Shins because they love the Byrds
The Byrds is Fantastic Band from 60's
they look baked.
At 2mn50, with voices and below the drums and guitar, wonderful!
I'm all for the ugly people may better music idea. All attractive musicians are awful.
Explain The Kelly Family, please!
Gobsmacked! Fantastic performance!
I like all of them, especially the Q and Not U and Eddie Vedder ones. And I actually like this version of the song better than the album one.
@subtractthegrizzly23 don't you think that was inappropriate?
wilco's muzzle of bees is incredible definitely check it put
My fucking god--where is his beard? WHERE! It's gone!

Um...no.
TheMcS17 Kevin Spacey.
@undertherainbow ah yes a little !

Why did he have to go and replace the band? They sounded better then.
