holy moly... usually when you see clips like this the player tries too hard and makes mistakes... in this case Datsyuk was being flashy and it worked on every single move, that was amazing. It looks like he's fooling around but he's so smart, he knew the way the reporter would move on every deke and played him like a fiddle. That type of reaction speed is something you're born with
This is incredible. I love when he just holds the guys stick with his stick and doesn't let him get the puck. Goes to show you why he's the best defensive forward in the game on top of being top 5 most talented on the world. It's crazy how little attention he gets relative to Crosby and Ovechkin even though he's better all around and has won a few cups.
Ну Кросби хотя-бы тоже хорош,а вот бревно офисное да,без комментариев,кроме как из офиса бросить больше ниче не может,зависимый от партнёров игрок,сам он ничего не умеет(ну кроме броска в касание по пустым)
I loved the bit where Pavel made it look like there was a loose puck, yet he was in total control of the puck whether it was loose or in his possession. Pavel actually lures people to go for the puck, which gives him the time and space to tie-out the opponents stick, so he's basically utilizing defensive stick checking techniques in his puck handling and deking. He even stopped to stand still and intentionally left the puck loose, and instead of playing the puck Pavel tied the guys stick and kept him away from the loose puck for seconds just with his body positioning, patience and stick strength. McDavid has a similar style in my opinion. He can utilize his blazing speed to get past defensive players, and he often "dekes" them without actually handling the puck itself but it's more about protecting the puck with his body and using his stick strength to keep the opponents sticks away from both the puck and his own stick. PS. English isn't my native language, so I hope you guys get what I'm trying to say here. :)
That was incredible; Datsyuk was in COMPLETE control! I was most impressed with his ability to anticipate Trevor's moves to the point that he could leave the puck stationary, seemingly unprotected, and then effortlessly stick-check or block him from even touching it -- clowning his opponent without even moving!
it is velocity (thanks Isaac newton)!!! people always forgot once you start moving on ice, hard to stop same w/ NFL only in nhl it is 4x more.. ice baby!!!
You're kidding right. He literally skated circles around him. I don't think anyone has nearly the same hands as Pavel. They're perfect. Every move is so clean. Must have practiced his whole life non-stop. 10/10. Go Dats.
So crazy, I remember this clip specifically and while I logically knew it was at least 7-8 years old, I was shocked when it was 13 years ago. Time flies
I work security for Ducks locker room at the Honda Center in Anaheim, and everytime the red wings come to town Pavel Datsyuk is and the rest of the wings are some of the nicest guys in the league.
Wow, that is not even fair! I am going to be uploading some stickhandling videos to my channel soon, with some good drills to do to practice, and improve your game.
Happy 32th birthday Pasha! Apart from being one of the best players ever born, he has brilliant sense of humor, If only you would see his interviews in russian, they are hilarious!
All of the moves were great but I was honestly so impressed with him using his stick to trap Trevors stick between his own leg and the stick while not moving. That was cold lol
As an Avs fan, I don't really like the Red Wings, but you gotta give it to Datsyuk. Not only is he ridiculously good on the ice (in all three zones, no less) but he also is such a good guy off the ice. He is so humble.
"i try to be best" DATSYUK IS FREAKIN AMAZING i wish the canucks could trade their whole roster for him so we'd finally have a player worth watching again here in vancouver
You are right. I think his point production is down slighty from that of Ovie, Crosby or Malkin, but my god he has to have the best hands in the NHL. Dont forget though that hockey sense makes a huge difference.
@evanderlazer like its been said before his combination of offensive talent and producing with his defensive side is at a way higher level than crosby did this guy can be on a top powerplay and penalty kill for any team
Hakan Andersson said that he was probably the only NHL scout to see Datsyuk in action as he went to scout Dmitri Kalinin and noticed Datsyuk for the other team and then followed up on him.
Great moves by Pavel... most players can't do moves like that in games... they save it for the ASG weekend... but Pavel is one of the only players who can actually use his moves IN games...
im not a detroit fan (sharks fan), but i love watching Datsyuk play. He ism in my opinion, the most talanted player in the league. The way he can move the puck and set up players is unrivaled. Neither Crosby or Ovechkin can match up to Datsyuk's skill, he always will be in a league of his own. If people are trying to compare points, then you dont watch hockey. Saying one player has more goals/assists than another player makes him better is not a hockey fan, just an idiot.
The reporter guy was laughing the whole time. Datsyuk's a pro though, he let the puck go while the guy was like 2 feet away and it still went through his legs, he made him skate into it XD
Once the reporter started skating, I thought to myself that he must have played hockey extensively at some point - definitely at least at college level. Sure enough, he played in the AHL so it's not like Datsyuk was dangling a total scrub. The guy was actually a pro player at some point.
no just didnt want u to be mislead in case ur were buying p.s. it is very durable the part aaround the holes arnt hollow but plastic (and no im still not an advertiser)
@hockeyumberg123 his secret is that he never loses his composure.just look at his body not his stick like for examp when he lost the puck for a bit he didnt turnaround to get it he just kept his stance and put his stick in there
The part were the reporter talks about the weights and stuff on the stick. That's true I do it and lots of people in the NHL do it. I have 4 pucks on my stick (taped on 2 on each side). And if you play with it just like your practicing dekeing or something, even with a little ball just moving it around. It really makes your stick feel like 3x or more lighter! Mostly at the bottom because that's were the weights are (and the puck when you're shooting is).
The reporter had some skills to be honest
He played college hockey.
played AHL one level below NHL
I used to play with him. he's a really good player
I used to play with Datsyuk. Actually I taught him. One day he will be almost half as good as I am
Probably one of the most gifted players in the league and still he remains one the most humble.
Спасибо за высокую оценку русскому хоккеисту)))
For sure! He even said "me too, you're too fast" haha
except Trevor Thompson isn't just a layman, he played in the AHL, he is not exactly bad.
yup he's someone who spent his whole life skating and playing hockey. dude is no chump, syuk is just that good
@@Dismal626 i thought he was just a reporter but he definitely is a competent skater watching that vid
Hahah awesome, I love how that dude is enjoying the hell out of getting dangled like that.
when you get dangled by Datsyuk you say thank you and apologize for trying to touch the puck.
h5y datsyuk can deke in the shower and not get wet. (read that somewhere so funny)
I don't know why but for some reason I feel like I'm the one that got schooled by datsyuk just by watching?
He’s a gem to have watched for all those years.
haha true
Datsyuk literally didn't break a sweat while looking half asleep and keeping the puck on a string. The greatest stickhandler in NHL history.
"Keep puck away from defenseman no matter how:
-Pavel Datsyuk
Pavel was still in russia in his head for 14 years😅
@@mikebizoune233 He lived in Russia in the summer. English is really hard for a Russian to learn because they don't have filler words like the.

I love Datsyuk, truly one of the best right now and very modest. Keep it up Pavel!!
Miss pav. Hello from 11 years in the future

Such a likeable player. His sense of where the puck is and where Trevor Thompson's stick is, it's just superhuman.
This is one of the very few videos worthy of my favorites section. Endless replayabilty as a pasha fan.
So crazy, I remember this clip specifically and while I logically knew it was at least 7-8 years old, I was shocked when it was 13 years ago.

Thanks for the upload. Saw this on TV and I still find it amazing on here as well.
Not only skillful, but also the best sportsmanship as well :)
"I try to be best." Datsyuk I love you! (Trevor is one brave dude.)
Trev did a great job doing all that while laughing. Great stuff...thanks for the post.
'can you show me anything?' 'I have nothing' haha
Wow, that is not even fair!

Yeah. I'll be sure to check those out... lol
Happy 32th birthday Pasha!
Apart from being one of the best players ever born, he has brilliant sense of humor, If only you would see his interviews in russian, they are hilarious!
No one can justify negative comments towards datsyuk.. He's as classy as they come.
I showed my mom a video of Pavel Datzuk playing hockey, 9 months later she had a kid...
Thats how good he is.
All of the moves were great but I was honestly so impressed with him using his stick to trap Trevors stick between his own leg and the stick while not moving. That was cold lol
"I will start so I will at least touch it" too funny! lol
As an Avs fan, I don't really like the Red Wings, but you gotta give it to Datsyuk. Not only is he ridiculously good on the ice (in all three zones, no less) but he also is such a good guy off the ice. He is so humble.
2:17 holy frick that was filthy
Guy in black suit: hahahahahaaha
Datsyuk: Ain't nobody getting this puck!
"i try to be best"
DATSYUK IS FREAKIN AMAZING
i wish the canucks could trade their whole roster for him so we'd finally have a player worth watching again here in vancouver
And this was Pav probably barely even trying. Pav was born to play hockey. Most naturally gifted player I've ever seen.
I'd love to see a game of keep away like that between Datsyuk and Kovalev. That would be pretty damn cool.
He makes it look so effortless
I've seen alot of great stickhandlers, but Datsyuk is by far the best stickhandler i've ever seen.
- Can you show me anything?
- I don't have nothing.
absolutely amazing
he is crazy
u gotta love pavel
also the background music fits very well
i love how he stick handles i practice every day moves he does
I tear up when I hear him say "I try to be best"
I used to play hockey with Trevor Thompson. He was honestly a decent player. It's amazing to see what a real pro can do.
The intense music with Trev giggling the whole time was great.
You are right. I think his point production is down slighty from that of Ovie, Crosby or Malkin, but my god he has to have the best hands in the NHL. Dont forget though that hockey sense makes a huge difference.
"can you show me anything?" "uhh I don't have nothing"
Lol oh Pav, so modest.
look at how calm datsyuk is... he is amazing...
@evanderlazer like its been said before his combination of offensive talent and producing with his defensive side is at a way higher level than crosby did this guy can be on a top powerplay and penalty kill for any team
Amazing control!
GO DAT GO!
Hakan Andersson said that he was probably the only NHL scout to see Datsyuk in action as he went to scout Dmitri Kalinin and noticed Datsyuk for the other team and then followed up on him.
Seriously, you know that defensive players think to themselves before they take run at Pavel, "How bad is he going to make me look right now?"
crazy...and wow at the end...probably the only time we'll ever see him take a slapshot
Every time Datsyuk plays, its like a game of keep-away!
This is not keep away...more like how many ways is there to embarrass the other player
Good job Pasha !! Greets from your native city Ekaterinburg !!
i love this videoo, favorites for sure
1:55 that was a pretty good move actually
Great moves by Pavel... most players can't do moves like that in games... they save it for the ASG weekend... but Pavel is one of the only players who can actually use his moves IN games...
my eyes are happy now..
That was sick and made my day

he sound happy as a little baby haha
I love the Red Wings!
As a Blues fan, I hate playing against Datsyuk, but the guy is unbelievable. Love to have him in St. Louis!
That just shows how good he is
This is like a walk in the park for datsyuk.
he is unbelievable
"me too.. you're too fast" LOL
Wow! Shows you how skilled Pavel is
The reporter guy was laughing the whole time. Datsyuk's a pro though, he let the puck go while the guy was like 2 feet away and it still went through his legs, he made him skate into it XD
wow the skill is just amazing.
datsyuk and p.kane have the sickest hands in the league
the best player.. pleasure to watch
holy sh*t...Dats the man, his puck handling skillz are amazing
INCREDIBLE!
jeez that reporter is a damn good skater. definitely was not expecting that.
i love it how datsyuk seems to be dangling him with no problem at all, like it's routine
AND he also finished off the great passing play with a one-hander against the Blackhawks
datsyuk is like the best two way forward in the league right now. Without question.
Once the reporter started skating, I thought to myself that he must have played hockey extensively at some point - definitely at least at college level. Sure enough, he played in the AHL so it's not like Datsyuk was dangling a total scrub. The guy was actually a pro player at some point.
I remember when I was 4 when this came out
DATS AMAZING!
GO WINGS GO
This reminds me when I once played a guy who played ncaa hockey before in pickup
no just didnt want u to be mislead in case ur were buying
p.s. it is very durable the part aaround the holes arnt hollow but plastic (and no im still not an advertiser)
kids that play everyday dream of being this good
@hockeyumberg123 his secret is that he never loses his composure.just look at his body not his stick like for examp when he lost the puck for a bit he didnt turnaround to get it he just kept his stance and put his stick in there
@PavelSTL just putting weights on your stick and stick handling. doesn't really matter how as long as you're increasing the weight of the stick.
"I'm tired"
"Me too"
That was awesome.
The part were the reporter talks about the weights and stuff on the stick. That's true I do it and lots of people in the NHL do it. I have 4 pucks on my stick (taped on 2 on each side). @Valladinator
u're right too, but check again how long they all have played in the nhl. Datsyuk has adventage in years.
He is so *ucking relaxed, unbelivable
In my opinion the best dangler the nhl has ever seen
I can't believe you mentioned Ribeiro, WOW
The reporter is having fun doing this :)
OMG SICK if he played in the 80s he would have ripped shit up like Gretzky....by far one of the most under rated players in the NHL
He IS the Magic Man
Dude must be having a blast. He's lauging like a little kid
2:15 over and over again is just epic!
So humble
