A soldier does not fight because he hates what is in front of him but because he loves what is behind him. G. K. Chesterton
that is incredibly true. not counting the people who joined right after 9/11. they did hate what was in front of them.
Gordon Ramsay I mean you can look at it like this they fought to protect there country because they love it
I do love my big woman
Israel Vasquez wow
@@gordonramsay5187 oh gordon your wrong. By that logic everyone who served in ww2 didn't love their country as much as they hated the Japanese.
This is the epitome of the saying “The American Flag does not fly because the wind blows it: it flies with the last breath of every soldier who died defending it.”
We here in sweden salute our close ally. You add a massive weight to look out for your allies all around the world.
Cpl. Kyle Carpenter received the Medal of Honor, for his actions in Marjah, Helmand Province, Afghanistan in 2010. He is the youngest ever.
Audie Murphy was 19 when he got his in WWII
Private Jack Lucas, USMC, was 17 when he was awarded the MOH for his actions on Iwo Jima. I think Kyle is the youngest living recipient.

The youngest ever was from the 3rd VT Infantry in the Civil War 11yo Drummer Willie Johnston when it was awarded he was 13 when he actually recieved it.

That's amazing! Huge kudos to you man. I'm rooting for you!
Hey brother. Good luck to you. You truely will be one of the few and the proud. God bless.

You noticed that too.
I read an interview with the Marine that was on over watch with him and he said neither of them knew a grenade was even thrown at/in their position until it detonated. Cpl Carpenter just happened to be the closer Marine to the blast. His fellow Marine was also severely wounded and actually didn’t fair nearly as well when it comes to physical recovery.
It's because of these soldiers that other 21 year olds can chill and go partying with their friends and stuff.
This is why we at home should Never criticize these soldiers for only following orders and risking their lives.
I hate the selfish political reasons why we need to go to war but this man deserves all the respect in the world.
Agreed. Criticize the politicians who send them to war all you want, but soldiers deserve naught but respect in all but a very, very low number of instances.
This guys is a Marine, not a solider. Soldiers are people who serve the Army, Sailor for the Navy, Airmen for the Airforce, and of course, Marine, for the Marines. Just for future reference :)

The politicians don't give a fuck about us, and for that matter, neither does most of the civilian populous. The military is not meant to coddle you, it is meant to destroy the enemies of our Nation and when you sign that dotted line you best well know the sacrifice and risk you are taking. It was our choice to join the Nations militaries, we were volunteers. So we charge head first into uncertainty, and the only thing we have is each other. And you have to wonder about all the untold stories. On Tarawa, the landing craft could not come all the way to the beach, so troops disembarked and had to walk across waist-high water. On the beach, troops saw one soldier standing fully upright and get hit. They yelled, telling him to crouch in the water. He stayed upright and kept coming. He got hit two more times before reaching the beach. When asked why he didn't get down, he said, "I heard you needed ammo." He stayed upright to keep the extra ammo he was carrying dry. You should check out Corporal Carpenter being awarded his MOH Flag at the Marine Barracks in Washington DC. You'll see that on that day Kyle is the smallest Marine at the site. It always seems it's the little guy you have to watch out for. From an old Air Force vet my deepest respects to Corporal Carpenter.
Yep. I'm a big guy and I hardly ever have had to fight. Size intimidates. My buddy who is a former ranger and is only 5 foot 9 and 160lbs has had to fight his whole life. MY jaw droped when he said 'Pretty much under my eyes has been replaced" i was floored. I had figgured some with eye's and such , but wow !!!! Amazing. in the best way possible.
It is very important for psychological recovery to mend a hero's wounds and make them look good. Make no mistake , from the inside it is not the same. I am reminded of our family freind George O'connor who served in the Royal Navy WW2. In the pacific he fought hand to hand in burma and was bayonetted and disemboweled. He was carried back to the ship and recived surgery as much as could be done. His life thereafter on a pension of a few hundred a month. He was a regular fixture in the legion and lived with other veterans families throughout . Humourous and wise but alone. He cooked and did light housework. When November 11 comes around I remember him most of all.

Rodzilla5332 just saw Murphy’s grave at Arlington
Rodzilla5332, it is a crying shame that today's American History school curriculum ignores these such heroes and is so distorted, including early AH, that it is little wonder that this upcoming generation are falling for so much blatant lying propaganda that has and is creating an atmosphere of hatred for our honored and esteemed USA.
Hi, thank you for those recommendations. I will write it down in my notes.
Gina Disbrow it’s even worse that we now have a media including a “former newspaper” (as Andrew Klavan calls them) the New York Times, running a propaganda campaign right out in the open where they are actively trying to rewrite American history and being awarded a Pulitzer for doing it. The 1619 project is leftist Marxism in action trying to destroy the country while the rest of the MSM applauded their effort in the name of progress. If you ask graduating high schoolers what historical significance does the date Dec 7th have you’d be shocked how many don’t have a clue. It’s no surprise we have government officials asking people to turn in their neighbors for acting like a free human being and a good portion of the population can’t get enough of it. Ugh. Some days I think Balkanization is our only hope.
Courtney Coulston Chesty is also good for some great quotes like
"They're on our right, they're on our left, they're in front of us, they're behind us; they can't get away from us this time."
Courtney, thank you for showing this video, and more than anything, showing the honor and respect for our men in uniform. You show more respect than WAY TOO MANY Americans. Too many are too spoiled by how good we have it, thanks to those with the brass balls to lay it on the line to defend us. This is a very important video to see on many levels, thank you for doing it. Much love Courtney from a proud American ❤

Kyle Carpenter is the embodiment of the Marine ethos. I was actively serving when these events took place, I had been in the Marine Corps a little longer than he, but I look up to him to this day as a personal hero. He is a Marine and person that I recommend all young Marines and young men to emulate in the face of adversity, danger and commitment to their brothers and sisters to the left and right of one another. One of the biggest factors in this is his humility. Of all the MoH recipients from the U.S. Marines in the last 3 decades, he has shown the most humility. My admiration for this man is equal to all others at the very least in my life's experience. I still try to live up to the same standards that this young man set during my service in the Marines.
Semper Fidelis.
Dear Courtney, I hope you are still going to react to the Green Beret that went on a rampage that also got a Medal of Honor. Courtney thank you so much for this video. I live in NYC and originally from Texas. My uncles and both grandparents served in the US Navy and Army and I was always raised to respect our young men and women + veterans no matter if we serve or not. I am recently in the past5 years ver disheartened with people I thought were my friends from college and work and neighbors here in the Us that would rather spit on our flag and people like this young man than thank him. And I see you from New Zealand very emotional and in awe of his selfless story. Thank you for reinvigorating my patriotism. Cheers!
Courtney, I would like to know what you thought about the US military Before you started to watch videos on it, and how you feel about the US Military now that you have been watching a number of videos about it. I'm a disabled Army veteran with 18 years of service and I thought it would be an interesting question (or even a video on the question).
That's a really great question!! I didn't really have any major thoughts about the US military when I was younger - I would see images of war on the NZ news and the US military soldiers over in Afghanistan/Iraq but I never really thought much of it because it's not super highlighted in our news. However, I first became interested in the US Military specifically when I watched "American Sniper" about Chris Kyle. It was the first time I had been exposed to the realities and sacrifices of being in the military, and it also humanized all of those soldiers I saw on TV. Ever since then I loved learning about history and military from all across the world. I actually took some WW1 and WW2 history classes at university because I had become so interested in it. Of course, I'm no expert by any means but it's been something that has interested me since I watched that movie. I hope this answers your question! Lastly, even though I am not American, us kiwis are your allies so I want to thank you for your service to your country and its allies. Have a blessed day!

Many quotes and anecdotes of the men and women who have earned the title of United States Marine are easily found. Several of my favorite bits are during the Battle of Belleau Wood which gave the Marines the nickname Teufelhunden or Devil Dogs. It also had one of the greatest reported battle field quotes I can even begin to think of... “Come On, You Sons of Bitches, Do You Want to Live Forever?” by Dan Daly (a multiple recipient of the CMOH)
Marines like Cpl Carpenter exemplify the mantle of what it is to be a Marine, to wear the Eagle Globe and Anchor and carry the title of United States Marine.
I’m so thankful for all soldiers that serve to keep us Americans safe daily. But I also wanted to say your reaction to Kyle’s story made me so happy and tear up because your spoke a lot of truth. Thank you for making this video and talking about it.
War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things: the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth a war, is much worse. A man who has nothing which he is willing to fight for, nothing which he cares more about than he does about his personal safety, is a miserable creature who has no chance of being free, unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. As long as justice and injustice have not terminated their ever-renewing fight for ascendancy in the affairs of mankind, human beings must be willing, when need is, to do battle for the one against the other.” - John Stuart Mill (Shorter Version of original quote)
I recognized this from the very first line from my time having to recite it at The Citadel.

Of course he's down to Earth, and humble. That's what REAL heroes are.
Respect.
The really disgusting thing is he will now be forgotten, given a terribly low stipend which will afford no real standard of living, and be discharged. Marine for life, who did his job, and now loses his dream. Our country has severe issues.
dude, come on. he's got a podcast and is studying psychology
As a combat veteran myself, I can understand what he did. What civilians don't often understand is that If a grenade lands near a group of soldiers they are ALL likely to die from the shrapnel. It's that powerful. Soldiers understand this and some make the decision to only take the blast themselves instead of letting the blast kill everyone. They know they are likely dead anyway, but it takes huge balls to be the guy who jumps first.
Great vid! You need to react to MSG Roy Benavidez, a green beret whose story is unbelievable! He is one of the greatest American heroes ever. 🙏💯
Semper Fidelis marine. I’m so glad you survived, you will inspire generations my man. You risked so much Cpl.
Wonderfull reaction. Says everything about you. Respect.
If you want a deep dive on Kyle's story, he did a 5 and a half hour podcast with Jocko Willink, a retired SEAL Commander, about 6 months ago discussing everything from when he was a kid through his service and after. Very remarkable Marine.
Greater love hath no man than this, that he lay down his life for his brethren
I saw him explain it somewhere else that the main two reasons he survived was probably that he covered the grenade with his ballistics plate on his chest and that the roof caved in. So the plate taking some of the explosion and it not directly hitting his chest along with much of the force being dissipated downwards is how he was able to survive it. I just thought that was "cool", that the roof was softer than he was.
Daughter of America, did you ever ask your fiance if he was a 'leatherneck?"
oops i forgot ! haha i will text him right now. he's sleep though but i'll see what he says
Courtney I've just became a subscriber. The content of your videos is what got my attention. I've not seen anything like this before. You are a REAL Lady.
I love your perspectives.
Here we all are complaining about not having enough toilet paper, being quarantined and not being able to get our haircuts or see our families. Meanwhile you have a young gentleman who goes over and fights for our Country and what he believes in. At 22yrs old he covers a grenade to save a fellow Marine's life. This should put your life in perspective. My hats off to this young fine man and many others who have served our Country. God Bless our Service men and woman past, present, and future. Thank you!
Courtney, please look up Audie Murphy most highly decorated soldier to come out of WW2 highest medal of two countries medal of honor I.S
Will do! Thank you
Thank you for sharing this Courtney!
Quiet, selfless people like this are the reason I have the privilege of living in a nation that is a beacon of hope to the world.
Freedom is not free, please remember those who have paid the cost for you.
I met him a few years ago. Such a cool and humble guy.
The hate the enemy has for us as Marines will NEVER defeat the LOVE we have rach
What an inspiration this man is, he had/has horrific injuries and look at him... Squared away and sharp, God bless you sir and thank you for your service to our country.
I love the channel. Third time I've had to subcribe. That's a shame. He and those you've shown, those man others deserve better. Memorial Day. . .many others never came home. Poppies
My stepfather , Seaman Jerry , was a brown water sailor in the Mekong Delta , Vietnam . He lost his friend Seaman Willy to a sniper . My grandpa , Corporal James , was a truck driver in the Korean War. , His friend , Lieutenant Steve , was a reconnaissance pilot who died upon takeoff one tragic day . My stepfather's dad was a US Navy dive bomber pilot who lost some friends in the Pacific Ocean during WW2 . I and many of my family have served , but Memorial day is not about us , is is about those Brothers and Sisters in arms that paid the ultimate price of Liberty. RIP .
Thank you, Courtney. By viewing these videos you honor those who have served and sacrificed.
The CMOH is such a high award that the winners of the medal are the only people the President of the United States must salute. The President is the Commander-in-Chief of the United States Military.
That person and medal are to be saluted first, even by Flag officers.
Actually a tradition, not a rule -- even in the military.
He’s got a lot of really good interviews that were done later on in life. Really solid guy
The "Congressional" Medal of Honor is actually only the Medal of Honor.
Thank you. I have been sending it to you for months! You are awesome
The pride of America.
Kyles a Congressional Medal of Honor recipient. A mandatory Salute to Kyle!!
The Congressional Medal of Honor
Kyle Carpenter is what Marines aspire to be. He is a hero and a major role model in my life as a Marine veteran myself.
You should react to the netflix series Medal of honor. I am sure that you will love every episode. You should also react to the HBO series Band of brothers, it was film by Resultados Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg, It show the true history of a group of soldiers of WWII.
Medal of Honor is such a great series that I have rewatched so many times. The military personnel and historian perspectives included made for such a great presentation of selfless acts performed by humble human beings. God bless America and those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for their nation (any nation) and fellow brothers and sisters in arms.
Oh these sound like series right up my alley.Thank you!
That's a real Marine thank you for your Service Kyle Carpenter
God Bless our military, and God Bless the USA.
Thank you so much for playing this video, as a veteran of 12 years in the Marine Corps I very much appreciate it. The Iwo Jima statue says it the best about United States Marine Corps, “Uncommon Valor was a Common Virtue”.
