There is a movie, Hacksaw Ridge, that is based on a true story during WWII. It is about the only conscientious objector in US history to win the Medal of Honor. It is very much worth the viewing.

The word hero is over used by most people, to them a hero is an actor, sportsman or the like.
The real heroes or men like John Chapman and the others who going into this type of senario it’s not about me, but the entire team and comrades.

I believe the one piece that makes the air strike "uncontrolled" is that nobody on the ground is observing the impacts and effects to call in adjustments. They just gave them an area to suppress.
Its when you dont want the bomber to keep in mind potential friendlies. Basically "Here's the coordinates, go nuts!"
Tech Sergeant Chapman was a CCT. He was the observer, and director of anything above ground. He just didn't get a chance, and when faced with an enemy, did not retreat. The Navy tried to stand in the way of his MOHs (plural intended) out of pettiness.
The reason he woke up and got back into the fight is God told him "I'm need you for a little longer"

For further reference, the peak they were fighting on was at just under 10,000 feet elevation. Couple that altitude with darkness, thigh deep snow, steep incline, 60-80 pounds of gear and guys trying to kill you and you have a simply amazing performance by a Olympic quality athletes/soldiers.
Such an incredibly brave man!. He left behind a wife and 2 young children. If you have never watched "We were Soldiers" (starring Mel Gibson and Sam Elliot), then, you should. My husband is a VV, and this is a true story based from accounts of of this particular battle, which was the first confrontation between US soldiers and N. Vietnamese Army. Many people are turned off about the Vietnam War, as it has been dragged through the mud for so many years, along with its veterans. On several occasions soldiers called in for artillery and close support from aircraft during the battle. However, it is quite graphic, much like "Saving Private Ryan". Also, the video concerning the "Rescue of Jessica Buchannon" might be of interest.
Bought the book, at least I could do. It’ll always will haunt me that his loved ones watched him sacrifice himself for others. Thank you to the grieved for the support of the release of the video of his sacrifice, myself won’t forget and belated condolences. Hoping they find closure and peace in their lives. For those who watch, he will live in remembrance.
Petty Officer Roberts fell on their first attempt at the summit when their helicopter dodged a RPG. They thought he might still be alive. Back at the base the SEALS said they were going back to get him. Chapman said I'm going too. Even though he didn't have to.

Adrenaline, mixed with fear is an experience few humans experience....It makes you feel invulnerable, powerful, and so concentrated that you don't feel pain immediately, and there's a rage inside that dumps more adrenaline, and you will fight, or Flight beyond anything before. Been there, ambushed, watched brothers drop, but there was no shock. the Two who didn't take head shots, got up and ran as if they had only been hit by a bb gun. Fighting, until another platoon got in the AOP, and then both died on EVAC. The human body is a machine.

There’s a lot of bravery here but I want to highlight someone specifically another Air Force man named Jason Cunningham he was a pararescueman new guy. Jason was on the helicopter that landed with the rangers and began treating wounded on the impact basically. He was shooting, moving wounded to safer positions, shooting some more to go grab another wounded guy take them to cover he did this nonstop even when he himself was wounded. He then realized he was hit and the ranger medic wanted to treat him he refused medical care and continued to fight and take care of his patients. At the end of the battle he was exhausted and bleeding out his eyes were fading and 30 minutes before extract he fell asleep never to wake up again. For his actions he was awarded the Air Force Cross. The team leader also received the Medal of Honor the entire SEAL team had Navy Crosses unknown amount of bronze stars with a V for Valor and Silver Stars with V for Valor and most men got Purple Hearts which indicates you are wounded. Let’s just say it was hard to not award every man a MoH bc they all fought like enraged animals on Roberts Ridge. God bless them all🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
The job of the Combat Air Controller (Chapman) is to identify targets and paint them with laser for the AC130. Because he was unxonscious or fighting for his life he wouldnt be able to do that. As for what caused his incopasitation, i think it likely, shock, or a concussive explosion that rendered him unconscious for a time. Because he was no longer fighting or moving, the enemy probably thought him dead.

As a 79-year-old disabled retired Vietnam War Veteran, I can tell you there are no words to describe what Soldier Chapman went through. None! He rests in peace with his Creator.

I highly recommend the book Alone At Dawn 🙂 We had night vision the Al Qaeda did not so when Chapman is approaching bunker 1 the Team leader is laying down suppressing fire and that is all Al Qaeda can see. When Chapman charges. When Chapman was shot in bunker 1 the team leader said, I could see the breath exhaust, but then it was gone. He thought Chapman had died.
Fun fact it is required by military servicemen to salute a medal of honor recipient.
So in theory a general would be required to salute a private who has earned a medal of honor

I actually met someone that got the Medal Of Honor had a beer with him before i got out of the Marines he said he wished could have just saved them I asked him what happened and he said they ambushed us i killed all of them he said but everyone was dead
It took 14 years for this medal to be awarded. The navy opposed the medal for Chapman because they didn't want people to know the SEALs had abandoned him. When the medal was approved for Chapman, the navy put the SEAL team leader in for and he received the medal of honor also.
Such fighting is visceral: it's a part of the training. It is how a person can fight even as he is dying.

Look up Roy Benavides US Army special forces soldiers he's basically John Chapman, but he lived through his ordeal. Not taking anything away from Chapman he did his duty with a full heart and died a warriors death which is sad but he had courage 💯

I read the book and am disgusted how the navy tried to cover up what John did because of the lies the seal team leader told about what happened, the seal team leader was awarded the Medal of Honor based of lies then the secretary of the Air Force released this video.
I'm sure that's because the Navy doesn't want to admit Combat Controllers and PJ go through tougher training. Are more intelligent, and have more overall skills then Seals

I've seen this video a lot of times and every time when Chapman get out of that bunker and starts firing in every direction I get this vision of Scarface then it switches to Rambo with ma duece.
This man is Legend and without taking anything from him there are millions of Legendary men who have lived before him.

It is amazing the lengths that your body and eternal organs go through as its fights to keep you alive Chapman was probably acting on instinct and adrenaline alone in face of the enemy he must have known that he was mortally wounded by this point I doubt he even felt the pain from the gun shots

Also watch the True story movies, lone Survivor, hacksaw Ridge, Once we were Soldiers, Blackhawk Down. They are True stories, and have CMH winners. Also a short video of maybe the greatest soldier of all time, Roy Benevides, the Lazarus Soldier! Type that in. I met him once in the early 90s, when I was stationed at Bragg! U would never know it to look at him, very average sized guy. But what he did, after being wounded in Korea, then almost mortally wounded in Vietnam, then going back, is nothing short of God Jesus and the Holy Spirit, here on earth!

No. after after dan daly received 2 medals of honor, and was nominated for a third but they denied him, the military made a new law that you can only receive 1.

Though that could be a theory among many but from what I experienced being there from early 03 that I can honestly say for fact that no one I served with would have ever just laid there, not one. You can't trust me on this no exaggeration. You must know this video automatically played for my last video I tried to stop it in time but then I couldn't stop it, not sure if that's bad or good yet but after almost twenty years maybe it's time.
