  • Have you ever dreamt of buying every single tool to figure out which ones you'll like using the most? Me too! So that's exactly what I did. It's time to start unboxing and going through the massive pile of Milwaukee tools. I'm going to break this up into sections and try to compare like to like as much as possible. Milwaukee makes many different kinds, so we're going to unbox and go through all of them.

    The M18 rover is nice because it has the clamping and magnetic base, but the light is also able to be pulled out and swiveled. That would probably work better than any others for under the car, because you could use the magnetic base to stick it to the lift and then aim the light exactly where you need it. If you had 2-3 of those under there, you could virtually eliminate any shadows or hard to see areas, and they aren't crazy expensive. Something to definitely consider.

    The $49 work light that you think is junk is actually a pretty good light. It’s just a basic light for service work.

      Obsessed Garage got to keep in mind not everyone will be using these items in perfect situations and clean environments. lots of companies especially in the trades offer tool replacement for their employees if something breaks as well. Most owners would laugh if someone tried to get a handheld work light replaced that cost over $100. I have nice stuff as well. But for service work depending on the situation. Sometimes basic is all you want. Why wreck something expensive over a cheap easily replaced version. It is just a light of all things. Who cares if it’s plastic. Every Milwaukee tool is plastic. The only way these tools stay looking nice is if you don’t really use them.

    The Rocket lights and Radius are great when working in a house or room that doesn't have power or light fixtures yet, and you have to hang drywall or paint. The short 360 deg lights are ok in those situations as well, but are great in attics or crawl spaces.
    I know the fire department here uses the large hand held spot/flood with the pivoting head, I believe it is the Search Light.

    I know this is old. If you guys want an honest opinion, I have tested a good half of their lighting system and I only came across a few which I liked. My issue with Milwaukee is attention to detail and nowadays you can get ip rated work lights without breaking the bank from other brands. If your battery is not protected, I wouldn't even give it an ip rating to begin with. In a sense, most of Milwaukee lights don't quite work for me at this point in time.

    God, I wish I could work with you on this stuff for tools. I work for Snap-on for few months and I've been a Side tech for awhile all I do is find a better solution for tools. I'm at the point where has a kind of a side dream job is to do my own tool truck because this side of NorCal doesn't know about A LOT of good tools. I have a obsessed amount of time researched and then buying tools to use for a job.
    Matt if you want to see some of the most used hand tools that techs go for, grab a set of these:
    Mountain (MTNRM6) 5-Piece Metric Double Box Universal Spline Reversible Ratcheting Wrench Set; 8 mm - 19mm
    The original comes from is EZ-Red, but they also licensed out Matco, Monster and I think one or 2 others. They're OE from Mountain I believe. Some of the most sold hand tool for techs. I've Abused mine and they're still working. I've only have seen 3 of ever warranty. Then paired with of Extra Long Box End Wrench Set help you get into tight spots or need a leverages to break-off bolts. The Box ends are also great with impact wrench.
    Idk why I just typed all that up in light video. Sorry!

    i'm with you, just dont see anything in M18 that floats my boat, unless they made a light that you could stick on the ground and flood the side of the car so you can detail with it AND have it where you can change the color temp from say 2700 to like 6000K. when i was building my obsessed house, there were times a handheld color temp varying light would come in handy, like when you're picking out floor tile, wood flooring, countertops, etc. you can dial the light to your house color instead of the store light color. i'm still digging the M12 flashlight but that thing has been out for 3 or more years now, wonder if they have another light on the way.

    I think you would find value in the M4 personal rechargeable lights they offer. Also little heads up on the m18 9.0 batteries the one that has the gray sticker like in the video is the old 18,650 cells versus the newer 21,700 cells with black sticker. Also not sure if you got the newer 3.0 cp m18 batteries they offer same run time as the old 5.0xc battery. And last but not least the HO 6.0 and 8.0 are both exact same size and dimensions. Much better value in the 8.0. Just thought I would save you some time.

    • @heeltoe6845
      @heeltoe6845 4 года назад

      All 9.0s have 18650. Milwaukee changed the label to black about 2 years ago to differentiate that from the HO batteries that use 21700 cells, those are gray labels now.

    ** A big FYI Some of these lights can't probably accept a 9.0 and 12.0 battery, Milwaukee had let you send it in for modifications to allow those batteries to be used!!****
    I have the Duel-Power Flood Light 33:35 Awesome light, it flashes 3 times every roughly 3 minutes when its low battery which is handy. I work in basements and early winter mornings when its pitch black out with one of these lights the whole basement is lit! If its a short distance I will run a cord though, cause on high it only lasts 3-3.5 hours.

  • @fakeaccount4309
    @fakeaccount4309 4 года назад

    Matt you are missing two m18 batteries in the lineup! Milwaukee has a CP 3.0 High Output (HO) battery, with the same cells as the 6.0 HO, 8.0 HO and 12.0 HO. The 9.0 High Demand (HD) battery is older and uses inferior cell technology compared to the HO series. Also, there is a regular m18 XC battery that is a 6.0 amp hour. It is the same size as the XC 3.0, 4.0, and 5.0 It is never sold in any kits and is rarely seen in stores or being used by anyone, but it exists and I think you would find a need for it in your cabinet! the m18 6.0 HO and 8.0 HO are the same size battery, yet the 8.0 has longer run time/ larger amp hour rating. So the ideal lineup of Milwaukee batteries both m12 and m18 would be: m12 cp 3.0, m12 xc 6.0, m18 cp 2.0, m18 xc 6.0, m18 cp 3.0 HO, m18 xc 8.0 HO, and m18 xc 12.0 HO. Ditch the following batteries: m12 cp 1.5, m12 cp 2.0, m12 xc 3.0, m12 xc 4.0, m18 cp 1.5, m18 xc 3.0, m18 xc 4.0, m18 xc 5.0, m18 xc 9.0 HD and m18 xc 6.0 HO. hope this makes sense!

    • @mysterycomment1553
      @mysterycomment1553 4 года назад +1

      Not true at all. The 6.0 ho and 8.0 ho are both useful. The 6.0 ho isn’t junk just because it has 2 amp hours less. The 6.0 is also way cheaper then a 8.0. Cheaper to buy XC 5.0 then XC 6.0 so the price increase to get the 6.0 makes no sense for the minimal increase in run time. The 9.0 HD is a great battery just for run time alone even and still good for lots of tools. The 12.0 HD/HO is good as well but way to big for lots of tools. So if you want to talk m18 batteries a guy should have 5.0 XC, 9.0 HD, 6.0 HO, 8.0 HO and 12.0 HD/HO. You can’t go wrong with any of the new high output batteries but the older batteries still serve a purpose.

    • @mysterycomment1553
      @mysterycomment1553 4 года назад +1

      Also you got to remember to use a battery properly you have to fully discharge it and fully charge it. Longer charge times means you have to wait longer to use the battery. You really shouldn’t charge halfway then use it etc. So yes longer run time is nice but shorter charge time such as with a 5.0 vs 9.0 or a 6.0 vs 12.0 means quicker turn around when swapping batteries because you can drain a battery faster then it can ever charge. It’s not all about crazy long run times.

    • @BenWoodruff
      @BenWoodruff 3 года назад

      @@mysterycomment1553 YMMV but I don't think that is true of modern lithium ion cells. Old NiCd, yes. Any of the batteries you mentioned, no. You do not have to fully discharge and recharge for best performance. In fact from what I've read they do best when they hover around half full, and that is how they should be stored if not in use for an extended period.

I also have the m18 and m12 rovers the m18 and 12 lanterns and the m18 spot flood light. I love and use all of them all the time. They are pricy buy you really pay for what ya get. Doug Decuir I agree, it really depends on how much they would be used. Cordless would be easier in a lot of cases. For me it’s not an every day use, so getting a light with a chord or buying a cheaper battery powered light would be more than sufficient for me.
