That's interesting. Just keep a little of that playdough type stuff in your glove box, and whenever you go thru a carwash, just take a few second beforehand to do your little trick. And then remove and put back in the glove box after. Easy enough.
Yeah I get a little bit water in my SmaprtCap at my local automatic car wash. I'll have to try that trick out with the butyl tape. And loving my SmartCap on my 2011 Ram 1500
When will you be coming out with replacement locks? The current ones get water in them, freeze and will not open. If it is truly an 'overland' cap, why can the locks not be opened from the inside?
Thanks for your feedback and question. We don't have an exact date for the release of our new locks/latches, as it is dependent on the opening of our new manufacturing facility in Ft. Worth. We hope to be able to release that information very soon. You may want to sign up for our email list - The Tribe (www.na.rsismartcap.com/join-the-tribe), as any new product release or update information will go out to that list first. Thanks again, and keep an eye out for that info.
Do you make the smart cap in a lighter color and roof insulation? I live in Southern AZ, I'm worried that when the temps get above 100 that the inside the black cap would be extremely hot. Thanks Jeff
I live in S Texas and had the same concern. I transport dogs often and it's just too hot in the summer to feel comfortable. I used Lizard Skin on the inside and it works great. Dropped the temp inside by about 20 degrees. I also put in some foam paneling in the roof. It took some work but its very well insulated now.
@@Arlen55 Thanks Austin for the response. Did you glue the foam, then apply the Lizard skin over the foam, and how did you apply the Lizard skin? Thanks Jeff
While we do not have this in our upcoming product road map, it is possible we will go back a generation on the Silverado/Sierra applications. At this time, no promises though. I would encourage you to join our email list as that is the first place we provide product availability information.
We wish we could provide caps for all trucks. The problem however is that SmartCaps are application specific. We design each one to fit the truck model it is going on. In the past year, our team has designed, manufactured, and delivered over 120 different product for the North American market. Thanks for reaching out, and sorry for the issue with your third brake light. Can you please go on our website and complete a Warranty Service Request (www.na.rsismartcap.com/warranty). Our Customer Support Team will assist you with getting a replacement sent out.
@@smartcap_officialjust to clarify, the areas that need the tape are the corners from inside the vent accessed underneath it? It is hard to tell in the video.
This trick doesn't work. Did it exactly as described and still got about a quart of water inside. For almost $4k, you'd think basic waterproofing would be standard and not need modification to make it do what it's supposed to do.
We're very sorry to hear that you were unable to get this fix to work for you. We have had many others that it has been successful. If you could please reach out to our Customer Support Team (Support.NA@RSiSmartCap.com), they will work with you to assist you with this issue.
Given how the demand for our products has outstripped our current production capacity, we are opening up a new US based production facility that we expect to have online mid-2022. More info to come in the coming months, so if you have not already, I would encourage you to join our email list - The Tribe, as that is where we first release pertinent information.
They cost too much. Fiberglass bed caps cost too much to begin with, and only end up sitting in peoples back yards. Come in and sell your product at the same price as fiberglass ones because they’re overpriced anyway. Then I’ll buy one
While I appreciate your comment and concerns over cap pricing, we simply cant build these fast enough for the demand. Why are so many people purchasing SmartCaps? Well, if you look feature for feature and compare SmartCap to Fiberglass, you will see that we are appropriately priced and offer good value for what you get. The rugged design and plug-and-play components let you build your truck bed exactly how you want it. Also, the SmartCap holds its shape and is very easy to install and remove (takes about 15 minutes) so putting it on and taking it off when you need to is a snap.
They’re costly but worth it. I wouldn’t trade my Smartcap in for a fiberglass even if someone paid me. The stainless steel construction, build quality and somewhat tactical aesthetic can’t be beat.
Thanks for this video! I really needed to know how to prevent water from coming in at our high pressure car wash. Thanks again.
So glad it was helpful! 👊
Mines leaks horribly under the lightest of rain.
@@DP-vd6blsame. I just got mine installed last week, drove through some light rain and my stuff is soaked from the air vent.
Admitting your product has a flaw!? If I liked or needed a bed cap I'd surely buy this one just based on the up front honesty.

Please, please make an 8 foot version for the Ford super duty long bed! Thanks for making such a quality product...
don't hold your breath
My smart cap does fine in car wash until you hit the air dryer and it blows of lot soapy water in through that vent. I will have to try this trick.

Worth the money?
@@JoeyBravo312 Yeah I think so. If you damage a panel yo can just replace it unlike fiberglass. And with the three sides that open is awesome.

I bought one for a 4th gen ram 2500 and put it on my 2007 mega cab. It fits…pretty well. Rear hang off is about 1/4”.
How high does the positive pressure vent stuck upm
The Positive Pressure Air Vent is 30mm or 1.18" tall.

Nope! It will still work just fine with those areas covered.
