@@JCTiggs1 I think the relevance is that it's recently come out that Ellen is a major B-word when the cameras are off and the spotlight is not on. The point is that the person people are on camera and the person they are in private, when they think no one is watching, or no one that matters is watching, can be quite different.
I hope Colbert keeps this format. SO MUCH better than the old studio formula. Colbert is a lot more irreverent. Makes inside jokes. Even the interview was more personable and awesome.
If the guest isn't the responsive or personable kind though, it could be torture. Both to Stephen and viewers. I don't think this would work with just anybody.

@Chris Albert I half agree with you. It's true, this format probably won't work with everybody. The guest has to have that openness, and that charm about them.
You also said "if the guest isn't responsive or personable", but I feel like it's not going to be any better with a studio audience.
Maybe one episode per week done this way? Let’s face it, otherwise you can close the theater and a lot of people are not getting their job back (I hope they are still being paid all this time). Stephen is not just an artist but also an employer.
Did you miss all the 372 times he talked about going back to the theater? I love this format too, but I doubt it'll last another month.

That's right -- it feels that way 'cause that's what it is! And the hug at the end proves it. (The hug also made me teary, it's so welcome as at last we can feel the pandemic receding and normal encounters becoming possible again.)

Well, that is the only means by which we live on... whether he meant it that way or not, his answer is about as accurate as it gets. A bleaker, yet equally true, answer from Ricky Gervais on what happens after you die: the same thing as before you were born (i.e. non-existence).
@@pidayrocks2235 I think Reeves' quote was related to the tragedies in his own life (best friend died of overdose, daughter was stillborn, girlfriend died in car accident) and how it affected him.
Reeves has been quoted as being spiritual, believing in God. I don't think think his quote should be construed, even if unintentional, as having a parallel meaning to Gervais's.
@@thebasketballhistorian3291 Did I not say “whether he meant it that way or not”? The quote remains true even if his other beliefs are not. Our loved ones WILL miss us. I never talked about the intention behind the quote, rather only it’s truth value.

@Deep Cut Reactions That’s actually a good point, I think all the best action films are drama films with action scenes in them to resolve a conflict, since they tend to centralize on the characters rather than flashy action scenes. “Terminator 2: Judgement” for example has a lot more drama (and I guess sci fi) than action scenes in it to build up John, Sarah, and the T-800 with three long action set pieces to give the characters an obstacle (the T 1000) and the form to resolve it which is through action .
SO GLAD to see John moving past The Office and doing his own thing. Such a talented director and actor. Love this man so much.

Yes! Toward the beginning of the interview (it might have been the first video), John touched his face, near his eye, and I cringed. “Don’t touch your face!” Man, the world is different.

I listened to it not knowing what it was, then learned about its composer Sol Weinstein and how it got into mr Darin's setlist. Wonderful composition, as a milennial I love it. Really brings the concept of showbiz to life. or vice versa!

I know him by name and that he's married to Emily Blunt but I don't think I've ever watched anything with him in it so far.
Never having seen The Office, or A Quiet Place, nor knowing who Emily Blunt is, I judge him just by what I see here, and the conclusion is: OK, fine.
@@ericminch Emily Blunt's an actress. Quiet Place 1 and 2, Mary Poppins Returns, Edge of Tomorrow (or Live, Die, Repeat. Whatever they're calling it these days), Looper, etc.
I really prefer this format to the big show in the studio. Colbert is more relaxed and really better.
I loved every minute of this interview and this was the perfect person to have on as his first live guest.

Did you find the performance John mentioned? I read his last show was at the Las Vegas Hilton in 1973, but that was a residency not a tour (John said tour). I’ve found a few live Bobby Darin performances, but none mention they were his last.
I found it after a long search. It made me remember not merely Darin but living life when you know your health suggests yours will be short.

thanks John for your song of life Bobby Darin's the curtain falls. I was a fan in the day and remain one. He had a hard life but he was a great performer: harmonica, guitar, drums and gave Jimmy Durante a great evening. He could sing very well. I watch Linda Ronstadt singing Long, long time with him. He played guitar and sang but I think he couldn't continue due to health issues. Thank you for bringing that tune to mind.
