    When cutting PVC with PVC cutters the cutter does not remove material like a hacksaw would. This creates a lip on the tip of the pipe which pushes out the glue as you push the pipe into a coupling or fitting. I usually bevel the edge of the pipe via sandpaper or concrete floor.

    Very nice to see another video in your fish room, Randy! There was one thing you said that I just busted out laughing because I have *been there*, *done that*, sooooo many times. Set something down and it's gone forever..... or so it seems because it takes forever to find it again. (And it drives you crazy because you just had it in your hand a few seconds ago.) Yes, it's sitting right there, but hard to spot. I will often climb the step-stool in order to "look down" on top of the tanks from on high. That helps a lot. However, my new rule is "a place for everything and everything in its place". So I designate locations for things like the TDS meter, thermometers, nets, and just about everything. That way, I save a LOT of time not having to search and search every time I need something. My pump is 67 liters / min running 30 tanks and I have a lot of extra air. In fact, I can open several valves 100% and it still doesn't impact my tanks. I do this so as not to create too much back pressure on the pump needlessly. Here's a tip: if one bleeds off the air at the valve it will hisssssss but attach a length of airline tubing (attached to nothing at the other end) and the hissing will vanish. - Thanks Randy! Fishez

  • @Nepo35
    @Nepo35 4 года назад +3

    Close loop pvc manifolds mounted on the ceiling are not very efficient since the air line required is absurdly long to reach lower tanks and air pressure drops to shite. A more efficient system is to have pvc pipes delivering air to each tier of the rack with all pvc pipes still in a closed loop system. That way, any given length of tubing that the air has to flow that isn't a loop system is shortened and thus pressure is retained. Added benefit; no unsightly and messy long airline dangling from the ceiling, taps for airline easily accessible above each tank, easy adjustment. Do it once, do it good.

    The reason behind the twisting of the pvc isn’t to insure you didn’t miss any spots. It is because the inner most part of the female fittings is tapered. This is to insure there is consistent contact 360 degrees giving you a water tight “weld”.

    While that set up has it's uses , supplying air is easier and cheaper with just a small air chamber, basic airlines and cheap plastic Ts and valves. PVC or basic airlines make no difference in the air pressure going through them. What matters is the resistance at each exit and how many air exits there are. If all valves are wide open then the depth in the water will be the difference in resistance. Air, like water looks for the path of least resistance. So what you do is set up all the tanks with wide open valves. Then, if not enough flow in some tanks adjust the valves in the highest flow down to what is acceptable and repeat on each tank until they are all at the rate you want.
    It's really just a matter of expense and if you want pvc showing everywhere or easily hidden basic airline

I'll probably have les than 10 tanks total half being small. This pump looks awesome but it's too overpowered and costly for my setup. Plus I've heard pressure issues/damage can result from using an oversized pump, especially if not compensated for with an air purge in your system etc.. I'm new to this but trying to learn all I can. Seems like the two things stumping me are my air system and what to do for a tank rack/holding structure.

      That is definitely an issue with diaphragm air pumps.
      The piston pump that Aquarium Co-op sells does not have the same issue.
      Easiest explanation: pistons in a car engine.
      The pistons each create air and each piston is a solid piston, instead of a thin membrane diaphragm being moved by a magnet.
      Diaphragm will burn out due to the back pressure, supplemental piston simply is stronger (ie 8 cylinder car vs 6 cylinder car)

    Also fun fact. The reason for the twist of the pipe with any pvc glue, the glue is slightly heat activated, and the friction from the twist provides enough heat to activate the glue to get a proper seal :)

    Does anyone have a full list of items i need to purchase from home depot to use to connect this system together? I have extra 3/4 inch pvc i can use at home already. About 16 feet

    Would using the piston pump be overkill for 4 tanks? I’ve found individual pumps aren’t giving me the performance I’m seeking.

    An OT question: will a Platydoras costatus or a Platydoras armatulus eat or hurt a Corydoras Habrosus if they're in the same tank?

      I would think so. If they fit into its mouth, it might eat them. I’d go with a larger Cory dot as specie.
