Fishroom Air Pump Bleeder and Gauge

  • This is a fishroom project to add a gauge and air bleeder for my central air system. I have a Jehmco Linear Piston Air Compressor model LPH80 that's meant for systems with 60-80 outlets, but my system only has about 24 outlets. This simple solution allows me to bleed off the extra pressure without creating extra noise and will keep my air pump from being damaged.
This worked AMAZINGLY well and I'm super happy with the results. I'd have saved a ton of money on damaged rubber diaphragms for my old air pump if I'd done this years ago. This is a simple way to extend the life of your central air pump for your fishroom. If I had a smaller pump, I could save a little electricity, but this is the pump I have so this is my solution that allows me to keep using it. Also, in this video I answer the question of which one is quieter, a diaphragm pump or a linear piston pump. That answer is surprisingly hard to find!!

Great video. You said the Linear is quieter than the rubber diaphragm, but which rubber diaphragm are you comparing? I think that’s important to mention. The smaller Alita diaphragm pumps are rated at 27 and 29 db’s, the largest a little more. The smallest linear from Jehmco at well over 30.

Good point. My diaphragm pump is an Alita-60. It was definitely louder to my perception than the linear pump. It could be that the diaphragm pump was more annoying at certain frequencies or that is was making noise because it wasn’t bleeding off properly. It sure was annoying though. It has that low frequency hum that penetrates the space.

@@FishyReview thanks for this! I got an Alita 15 and I’m finding it really annoying. Overall sound is low, but like you said, the frequency is key, and on mine there is a partion of the sound that is a high pitch. I’m hoping it’s just mine. I doubt it, but surprised nobody mentions this and all I see are positives.

Where did you get the gauge from? Jehmco didn’t have anymore and said they were backordered

Hey @greygoose8580, thanks for asking because I meant to put a link to the one I bought. I've added that to the description so you can find it on Amazon. It's still working GREAT and I'm so glad I finally added the gauge and bleeder.

    Hi there,
Ygreat video. I designing my fish wall and you have helped immensely and potentially save me money in the long run. Would you have a link to the bleeder?

There’s a link in the video description to Jehmco for the one I used but you have to call them to order. I ended up changing from the 1/2” to the 3/4” because the smaller one was clogging up. I believe there are competing ones on Amazon but I haven’t tried them. Glad I could help with a fishroom build!

amzn.to/481cOfW. Here is a link to one I’ve seen someone else order from my links. If you decide to try it, let me know if it’s good! I really like the Jehmco one too.

Why do some people do closed loop and others dont

A closed loop lets the pressure be equal in all parts of the loop. Do I think it matters? Not really. I can't have a closed loop with the way my room is currently. Having done it both ways, I can't tell any difference.
