  • Today we cover what is arguably the best fish room air pump setup which is a closed loop system powered by a single powerful pump, in my case a linear air piston pump from Jehmco. We go over the pros and cons of this system, how it works, and how to set it up.

    Makes sense. The hose will expand a bit under pressure and when you are running long lines and a bunch it could be just a tiny bit but would ad up fast. Just changed my plans. lol I guess 3 loops in 1 system here. Our room here is a U shape. This will be entertaining to get it all dialed in. We plan to ad a single air system this weekend. We planned to use a linear pump but I think we will likely end up on a compressor. We will be running 120 filters on the system.

    Great stuff bud. I'm surprised that the tubing would be creating the air flow issue. I always thought that it had to do with the head pressures from the tanks. I look forward to any changes you make and any improvements that they result in!!!

    • @WildFishTanks
      @WildFishTanks  6 лет назад

      You’re right, it has to do with that too. That is actually how I noticed that I am almost at the limit of my pressure currently. When I push the filters in the 125 gallon towards the bottom, I lose pressure in them. The deeper a filter is, the more “pressure” it takes up, so even with the same size sponge filter and length of airline, a filter 2feet under water takes more pressure to function then if it was 1 foot under.

    Ryan, makes sense in the length of the airline. Hopefully the new changes are more efficient. I will have to look into that Jehmco pump if I expand my fish room. Heard a lot of good stuff about them.

    EXCELLENT - Thank you for all of this information.
    QUESTION: When you install the manifolds, aren't you creating more corners & more possibility of losing pressure. Or.....is it better to come off the 1" PVC instead of the long lengths of air hose?

    • @WildFishTanks
      @WildFishTanks  6 лет назад

      Appreciate you watching John. Great question, moving the manifold portion lower to the tanks would create additional bends, it also would kid of be a “dead end” for the air. These would negatively effect pressure which would negate some of the effect. To be honest I’m not sure how much it would negate it. Caotropheous suggested I check out Rachel O’Leary’s build and I haven’t yet.

    • @joka7316
      @joka7316 5 лет назад +1

      The amount of bends will not effect the air pressure in a system like this. The air pressure will equalize easily. When dealing with water there is a friction factor that needs to be accounted for when adding bends.

    i'm about to open my own fish store in the philippines. been watching youtube videos about closed loop air systems. do u think closed loops increase the air flow/air pressure as compared to linear (not sure if linear is the term where i basically use 3 air blowers. 1 air blower for this side (straight for 100ft), another air blower for this side (straight for 40ft) and lastly another air blower for another 40ft straight? coz my store is big. like 100ft x 12ft and practically all the 2x100ft sides are lined with fish tanks (no fish tanks on the 2x12ft sides). a total of maybe 300 to 400 airline drops. i'm worried my 400w hailea vb800 vortex blower is not able to provide enough air pressure for all the airline drops. i actually have 3 air blowers ready. but damn. the electrical consumption is gonna be high. 1x400w, 1x180w, 1x120w. if i can only use the 1x400w to power all my fish tanks, that would be super!

    If you were to reinstall this system from scratch, would it make sense to just have the pump and the PVC lower, instead of right at the top of the ceiling? Then none of the airlines would be as long. Also, when you run the PVC down and along your tanks, are you creating yet another loop, or are you creating dead ends there? Either way, aren’t you also sacrificing pressure by doing that? I’m assuming yes, but it’s still better than running them through the small airlines?

    Subbed. Nice system! What model/brand is that "plumber's tape" that you measured, cut, and used to hang your PVC from the ceiling? Building a basement fish room and that looks like the best way to build my loop, but a "plumbers tape" search isn't giving me the stuff you're using.

      I use a linear air piston pump, ruclips.net/video/3jt-SKDJtOs/видео.html. I know Aquariumcoop.com and Jehmco.com sell them. Not sure if they ship to Canada but look for a linear air pump over a diaphragm. Quieter and less maintenance although more $$

    Btw, do you know and Mexican Dearf Crayfish Breeders? I don't really want to but em off eBay. And they are illegal to breed for profit in California. I understand tho. If they got into our water it could be bad. But we sell Cacjun Crayfish the other small kind of Crays. I love MDC's tho.

      I don’t know any Mexican dwarf crayfish breeders man sorry. I’ve bred the dwarf Cajun myself and I believe they are native to parts of Florida. I’m not sure of the legality of dwarf Mexicans here. I actually want to do a video on knowing laws in your state or country about keeping different species of fish, plants and inverts

      Lucky Schmuck's Fish Cave you should man! It can be super confusing. Like the Mexican dwarf Crays. We can own them here. But we can't breed them. It's super confusing. And idk if they could servive outdoors here anyway. It can get as high as 112 in Sacramento. And as low as 37 in the winter at night.
