      the disagreement I have if you can even call it that is the jump from 1440p to 4k. Is it really worth the effort and the huge expense?
      Or will the visuals look 'the same'? Getting older my eyes are fuzzy view anyway so 1440p sees to be the no need to improve the size to see the text.
      and I forgot what I was talking about dammit

      @@tommyrotton9468 I'll throw in on this, since it's something I went through some years ago. The jump from 1080p to 1440p (1600p in my case) is huge. The jump from 1440p to 4k is significant, but not nearly as striking. The ringer: going to ultrawide is another huge jump in visuals, especially if you go 21:10 with something like a 3840x1600 panel. The question you have to answer for yourself is whether you want more vertical or more horizontal screen real estate. Anything first person or third person will benefit from the latter. Anything isometric or top down will benefit more from the former.

    Never future proof, but you can buy with a mind towards the future in getting a MB with Gen 5 lanes everywhere, yes it overkill now, but as the build ages those faster lanes will eventually be usable for nice improvements. Also, I'm buying parts as i can afford them so i can avoid putting them on CC. Just waiting now for a MB i really want, if i bought it now i'd get the asrock Taichi Lite, but I kind of want to see the newer AMD chipset that will come later this year.

    For the competitive gamers out there wondering.. 1440p 240hz or more, is better than 4k at 144hz.. But unless you aspire to be a pro or actually am a pro i would pick 4k, cause you can see better in the distance, but in a game like cs2 you don't need that really and you want the high hz instead... So if you are a pro or want to be, then you want the 1440p 240hz or more, cause it's just "faster"... Not to mention if you want 4k 240hz then you need a gpu that can do that, and that cost more :D If the choice was between 1080p 240hz and 1440p 144hz, i would go with the 1080p 240 hz, or wait and save up for the 1440p 240hz. it all depends how serious you are as a competitive gamer. *Note* higher refresh rate does NOT make you a better player, fyi...lol

    • @anitaremenarova6662
      @anitaremenarova6662 5 месяцев назад

      There's no reason to chase 4K at this point. Regardless of what you are 1440p is the sweetspot and you won't need an insanely expensive GPU to run it. I prefer ultrawide since my CS:GO days are behind me and the immersion is much better than on a 4K monitor while being much easier to run.

    • @NulJern
      @NulJern 5 месяцев назад

      @@anitaremenarova6662 but here is a reason to "chase" 4k, same reason there is to "chase" 1440, otherwise just save even more money on gpu and play 1080, but i wasn't talking bout the money spendt on hardware tho. 4k looks objectively better than 1440 and not everyone is looking for ultrawide or immersion. And there is still pro cs2 players playing at 1080 so i can't agree on saying regardless of what you are 1440 is the sweetspot, cause it's not, it depends on the games you play, monitor size and wallet size tbh.

    • @anitaremenarova6662
      @anitaremenarova6662 4 месяца назад

      @@NulJern There isn't, it's not sustainable with current hardware and 1080p has no real HDR options. 1440p has OLED and mini-LED screens out there so it's the best resolution that'll last the longest without having to upgrade. 4K only matters for TVs, you won't notice a difference in pixel density at monitor viewing distance on such a small screen. So yes, 1440p or ultrawide is the sweetspot currently, best sustainable premium display for gaming. Reason FPS players go for 1080p screens is because they're more affordable, not because they're better.

    • @NulJern
      @NulJern 4 месяца назад

      @@anitaremenarova6662 haha what? Not sustainable? But it totally is.. Competitive players don't care about Hdr options, upgradability or longevity and they don't play at 1080 because of the price either lol, some fps players may choose 1080 because of the price but no actual pro competitive players do. And what monitor size are we talking since you say "such a small screen", i can tell you at 4k it matters above 27" monitors when you sit close, and today i know plenty who games on 32" and above on pc and not a tv lol.

      I have. Wired magazine did a good article (TBH, I just skimmed it). If they can make it work that would be great, but I also think some of the underlying assumptions about digital computing power usage are changing rapidly. There are also some issues with analog computing due to physical issues (for instance, they store a value as a voltage instead of a binary bit, but what about electrical interference there?).

    To this day the biggest change I have ever experienced in gaming was going from 60Hz to 144Hz and switching from a TN panel to an IPS. No resolution, ray tracing or other technology could impact those 2 jumps though. Edit: HDR on 4k seem to be another BIG JUMP going from IPS 1440p.

    • @DenverStarkey
      @DenverStarkey 5 месяцев назад

      i believe the 5000 series can go one or two ways ... 1. nvidia further pushes down the power draw on what is achievable at lower power levels. ie each card in the series will draw less power tha it's predecessor while offering more performance (except the the 5060 , i'm beting it'll hardly be different from the 4060). in which case no 12vhpwr cables will melt since the gneration si drawing well below the cable's actual spec , thus making nivida look "right" for backing the standard.
      or the more likely thing given 4000 series already did the above compared to 300 series; 2. nvidia boost power draw across the board so performance goes up drastically across the board, and we'll see 12vhwpr connectors melting on 5070's and 5080's too this time around.

    The question about needing to dump more power is legit though.
    We are hitting limits with cpu architecture though. Transistors used to be 200-300 atoms wide still, silicon’s atomic size is about 0.2 nanometers making today’s transistors about 70 silicon atoms wide. We stopped scaling the channel length down below 20 nm because below that at current tehcnology you run into quantum mechanical effects like electron tunneling too much. Newer generations, like 5 nm, is more a mnemonic than anything, this does not mean transistor density itself is not going up, it very much is, but newer technologies rely on things like taller fins in transistors, supply voltage scaling etc. Right now scaled devices are so small, the dopants have statistical behavior, and the devices stop being so consistent, this is an obvious problem.
    So we need advancements still and the need to come fromsomehwere. But remember: the hardware will not function without software. Software that just eats cycles and mallocs like it is free. My brother is DevOps and he just "If it works and is reliable, all good, screw optimisation." Just look at older but technically better (compilation wise and resource wise) languages like C/C++ but we also have newer like D/Julia and for better malloc Rust. Instead peope love to code in Python/PHP/Ruby and while they have their place, humongous frameworks that eat and eat (looking at you Electron) and interpreted that rely on GC (Java pls, C#, F#) are just too inefficient. No more JIT, no more GC, all compiled, all memory safe. This is half the battle.
    Also for other hardware, unlimited drawcalls and RDMA/iWarp/RoCe on every NIC or userspace stack (works great for me on BSD). We really need that 0 copy, it is okay still on 2.5Gbit, starts dragging on 5 and forget it on 10. This is unacceptable.

      Managers always act like taking the time to do things properly is a waste of time, and that problems can always be fixed later with a patch, but that's a vicious cycle that gets worse over time.

    I've recently benchmarked it along with the 6400 and the A380. The A380 did suffer more with a 7-10% loss in perfomance on PCIE 3.0 x8.
    I ran Forza 5, Final Fantasy endwalker, SuperPosition (1080p medium), Heaven 4.0 (1080p Ultra, 8xAA), CS2 (1080p low) & Fortnite (1080p medium, no nanites).

    The concept of "future proofing" was invented by PC parts makers and influencers to get people to overbuy. It's related to the concept of the "upgrade path." Build the PC you need today. Later, when that PC can no longer deliver what you need, build a new one. Sell or give away the old one as a working unit, part it out, or relegate it to a secondary use. I recommend keeping it, so when your new build has issues you can still get things done while you sort it out.

    A component that I believe actually can be future-proofed is your PSU. It can remain in your system for a decade. Getting just enough PSU for now can cost you much more, in the long term, than oversizing it right off the bat, and the initial difference can only be $20-30. That’s much better than spending money on an entirely new PSU to support your shiny, new, beefy GPU that you snag down the road. But this mostly applies to people that know they are going to continue upgrading their GPU to a higher tier that will require more electron juice.

      The differences between X670 and B650 are minimal outside of some additional PCIE lanes (which means more M.2 connections or more USB connections). If you find a good deal on an X670 board and you like the features vs similarly priced B650, then go for it. But I'd just pretend that X670 = B650 and make sure you get the features you want on the board (but I still don't recommend A620 due to lack of precision boost overdrive).

      I mostly go for the higher end Mobo because of the 10 Gbits Ethernet, so I dont need to add a PCI Network Interface and my Rig stays Futureproof. Also only high end has SPDIF Audio Port.
      If you add a PCI Device or a second NVMe, on X670 PCIE 4.0 drops to x8.

    What do you think about my building plan?(RTX 4070 Super+ Ryen 5 7500f)(1100-1200$whole budget).
    And my friends plan RTX 4070 Ti Super+Ryzen 7 700)(1500-1600$ whole budget).
    Both will buy 1tb SSD Patriot+
    16gb RAM+ MSI B650 Gaming plus WiFi+ deepcool ak620+ (750w-my)/(850w-fr) energy supply
    We can't make bigger budget, but can change parts

    I remember when getting 30-60fps at max settings AA/AF with a GeForce 2 or GeForce 3 back in 2001-2002 was a big deal for $299-$399. Today, people complain about 100fps+ at 4K with a $1000+ GPU. Hilarious.

    I will disagree with the "future proofing never works." There are time periods that it makes a lot of sense to pick a product over another.
    Like picking am5 over lga1700 thats a form of future proofing, picking a good 850w psu over a very budget 650w psu.
    If you pick the am5 platform now, you can update to the best cpu that was offered in am5 once they go to am6 for a good discount. Nice and simple drop-in upgrade with a bios update.
    Also, the 850w psu will have no issue powering a 80/800 class gpu that its last gen at the time of the upgrade.
    Yeah, you might spend a tiny bit more now, but you won't have to buy a new mobo,ram, and psu again.

      I actually think we are saying the same thing, building with a good upgrade path like you are describing is great! Spending on parts that give you no boost and cost you the best bang for your buck now ie future proofing is what I advise against

      Wrong, in 4K you'd have to sacrifice PT even on a 5080 which isn't worth it imo. 4K is worth going to only if you like playing games on a TV, nobody will change my mind on it being pointless as a monitor resolution.
