They built this awesome guitar body for me, and I turned it into my DREAM SUSTAINIAC! Usually sustainiac’s are heavy metal shredder guitars, but a sustainer pickup can be used for lighter styles of music as well, so I set out to build a sort of nashville tele/strat with a sustainer, and I couldn’t be more happy with the results! Here are the parts I used:

:gets body from Scar my Guitar:
:scars guitar:
I'll never get tired of the demo riff at the end.
Haha thanks stinkface!
"How do you fix something like this?"
If I've learned anything about building guitars on this channel, the answer is tung oil.
😂😂😂😂yes!!! Why didn’t I think of that???
Love the message "wear your scars" god bless
Thanks Matt!
@@GunsandGuitars you're very welcome. I had a similar circumstance and revelation when I was making my own. Tool marks, some sanding marks, etc... mine isnt perfect by any means, but definitely the best sounding I own
@@GunsandGuitars I like how the "scar" message fits in with what you said about our life with Christ. Well said Dan! Not many people have the courage to say that publicly.
Plus the name of the kit company being Scar my guitar.
Dang, you know its bad when Dan breaks out the "golly gee willikers!"
Lolin
Gosh darn freaking shizzle!!!’
@@GunsandGuitars Oh man! See you at the alter this weekend!
Right! It’s like the universally understood, @least throughout the lower 48 contiguous states, “I fucked up, but I’m tryna change my ways!” Haha
Life just got real 😎🤘
Scares give life more beautiful character.. I'm happy with that perspective
Normal people: Well, I'm stranded, better get some help.
GnG: *uses Duct tape to repair a truck and makes a guitar while stranded*
Cocaine's a hell of a drug.
😂😂😂
The best guns and guitars episode ever. Great job, Dan.
I agree completely!!!!! So REAL... Great message and great practical info when mistakes happen.
Thanks guys!
Dan coming through with the sermon! Keep spreading the Gospel man, I love it!
Thanks aaron!
Amen brother
It is a "scar my guitar" body.............
The sign of a master is NOT that he never makes mistakes , but how excellently he deals with his mistakes .
You did good and you added a bit of funk to the beast !
This is my favorite build of yours, by far! Correcting the “overbite” from the router was as good as anyone could do, and I can’t agree with you more about sound vs looks. If looks were so important, people wouldn’t be paying thousands of dollars for Custom Shop relic’d guitars, and I wouldn’t be so ugly. 😂
Elon Mush yes.
However the battle scar philosophy is fine, too. Still a gorgeous build!
Thanks James! Appreciate the feedback and I agree entirely!
James TheDoctor Duncan FACTS! He did a great job patching that mistake. & gives it really does give it character & when it’s all said & done makes it your own & shows your hard work & resilience. & I like how he brought it around to the message & scar analogy, bc it’s so true & simple, yet we all benefit from being reminded! & what’s more rock n roll than building your own guitar EVH or Brian May STYLE w/ battle scars(on it & you) & then jammin on it. Especially when it SOUNDS GREAT! Also, I actually considered for a minute that it might not look that bad if he left the chunk out. Or if there’s a certain input jack shape out there like maybe a 90 degree type that has a side on face of guitar and other side on the width.. or wondered if a standard Strat type input jack would have mounted there and covered the flaw.. really not sure hadn’t actually looked this cray cray thought up to see I’m out of my mind. N know that wouldn’t have helped at that moment.
Looks great and sounds even better. Greatings from Italy, nice message you gave at the end. God bless
The sustainer sounds great! On old single coils they used surgical tubing instead of springs, this might be the same stuff.
That sounds right! Thanks for the tip!
@@GunsandGuitars thought old feners used em as well
The springs are there to prevent you from over torquing the screws and damaging the pickup threads. Surgical tubing, while rigid, will crack and warp with enough force.
@@BrunodeSouzaLino yeah and it rots too
@@calinguga And the springs also serve to keep the screw under tension constantly so vibration from you playing doesn't loosen them over time.
So I FINALLY watched this. Dan, I am just amazed at what you can do while travelling, and with minimal tools, to make killer guitars! It gives me hope that one day I could build guitars as awesome as this! In addition, and possibly more importantly, you brought the whole "scarred guitar" into a perfect parable of each of our lives. None of us are as perfect as we would like for others to believe we are...but each of us can still sing our own song. Yes there is pain, but that just gives the song feeling, and makes it more believable, and more relate-able. You rock man, and I am fully behind what you do, who you stand for, and what you stand for! Choose joy, and continue to follow your faith. Prayers going up for safety and blessings for you and your family. Thanks for keeping it real, dude!
You are my only subscription brother! LOVE this channel. Tons of info, great builds, budget friendly...and most importantly FAMILY friendly. Nice to have someone putting something positive out there. You are a fantastic role model. Keep up the great work and keep the faith!
Scar-my-guitar kicks butt man. I love their show and their big hearts. Fantastic craftsman building all types in their garage. It's insane.
Thanks for the “wear your scars” monologue! I have plenty of scars and Christ has helped me to be a better man. I find myself almost always wishing that my scars could be completely removed, but the way you said that resonated with me and I am even more grateful for the healing Christ has given me! I am left with the reminder that I should never do that again! Peace!
Bro I respect you so much for proclaiming your faith on youtube. I love your videos, and will be making my own bass kit when it arrives. God bless you, and I'm looking forward to more of your videos in the future!
What a beautiful guitar and even more beautiful message.
Been looking forward to this one Dan, and almost 30 min too! Heckin nice. I'll be watching it later tonight.
Haha yeah it’s a long one, grab some popcorn!
Damn that's a great looking guitar! and as of now, my favorite guitar creation vid. Thanks man.
Wow, this video is just amazing on so many levels! Thanks, Dan
Thanks Andrew!
Love the shape of this one! Looks amazing
Dan, I always look forward to your videos. Your conclusion about who we are, how we treat others is spot on. Nice job.
Hey Dan, nice save ;). Great build as always, and thanks for your clear and heart felt sharing of faith!! A thing of beauty.
Preach it Son!! Keep up the good work. God bless you!
Wow, this was a blessing and an unexpected surprise. I was looking for a video on installation for a sustainiac single coil pickup. God Bless you!
Amen brother. Let's all become better people. Thank you for your work and deeds.
Amazing message. And the guitar turned out amazing!
By far the best build yet, cool guitar made and great lesson learned
Loved this video one of your best guitars so far. Keep on going brother. Appreciated the message at the end, I really needed it. Can't wait for your next video.
Good to see you back. Nice job on the patch job, 8-)
Thanks!
With everything together, you can hardly notice the cuts in the wood! Amazing as always, I absolutely love the body and pickguard
Thanks alex!
Dan, I’ve enjoyed your videos for a while now and just wanted to say how much I’ve learned but also how much I’ve been inspired by your passion and journey for growing your designs and techniques. May I also note that lately your story-telling with the editing in your videos is on a whole other level! Thank you and I’m looking forward to more! -Stav
I really love and appreciate your real talk in this video. God bless you my brother.
Good video, guitar and message... Glory Be!!!!
I like the Life Lessons with Dan section! Thanks for sharing.
exactly what I needed to hear, at the end.God bless you
Love the message behind the build
Can’t tell how much I like this. The guitar..and the message. Both beautiful.
Great sounding guitar man! Love the message. Keep it up bro
Absolutely nailed it brother! God bless
Amen! Love this and you! Way to go cousin!
THIS IS SOO WHOLESOME !
Holy Moses, this guitar sounds fantastic.
Loving your videos pal. You are a natural on camera. Very talented.
I'll be following your instructions once I start my first DIY kit.
Thank you.
That guitar looks like a 3 way hybrid between a jaguar, telecaster and SG.
I also appreciated your message at the end. Good job Dan and GOD bless.
Looks great Dan! Glad to see you back in the saddle. Hope the truck fix stays simple.
Yup, $7.99 on amazon! Lol
Especially dug how you left the burn marks. Give that axe some character.
Love the life lesson -- Thanks Dan!!
Thank you!
Love the video. Scars and all. Keep up the good work.
i've seen almost all your videos and i think this is your best one yet! outstanding!
Wow thanks brian!
think you just saved me from destroying my first build. planning on using a router for the first time and rolling over the edges of the body and didn't even think of that pesky hole on the side. but even if I did follow in your footsteps - greatly appreciate how you recovered. always learning a lot. thank you.
Really like how you recorded the background/intro music with the guitar you were building! Gives us a nice little preview of the end product ;)
Great lesson on guitars and life! Love your perspective, keep the faith!
Thanks! Amen!
Bless you brother... Beautiful sounding guitar... More Beautiful sounding message at the end...
Love your message...scars are there, and they help make you who you are. This is one of my favorite videos yet!!!!
Be Blessed!!!!
Thanks Jamie!
You out done yerself bro!
Thanks Sean!
I showed up for the project, but stayed for the heartfelt message. Thank you, Dan.
Enjoying the channel Dan. Realized awhile back that you were a fellow believer. One of the reasons I subscribed. Keep the great content coming and God Bless!
Hey Dan, I loved this video and you spoke of some things that a lot of people are afraid to discuss and admit...couldn't be more real and relevant to me as it's my senior year of HS with lots of things to think about. Would love to hear more talks like this! Stay faithful!
Love the channel! Great stuff!
Dan I love these build videos so dang much, and seeing this pop up into my inbox really makes my day!
Thanks Gideon!
@@GunsandGuitars I also love how you show that you aren't flawless, as we humans are. Sometimes, when I build an instrument, and things don't go as expected, I can really work myself up over it. And then I remind myself that people aren't flawless. Thanks for reinforcing that idea :) means a lot to me
Great vid. Thanks for being real and unashamed about your relationship with the King.
It's here! Been waiting!
Good work and looks great even with the scars, but sounds amazing! I appreciate you sharing all the gory details of the build and for sharing your thoughts about it’s who we really are that counts and not an image. Keep up the good work brother!
Beautiful guitar Dan! Great Job! God bless☝🏼
my favorite one you've ever done!!!!!!! stellar job
Hey Dan. You did the video a couple of months ago but the message is so needed today. As humans we need to stop focusing on the outside and more of what’s on the inside of each other.
Dude one of the illest builds I've seen in a while. It has sssoooo much personality.
The repaired part of the body gives it character. It's got it's own personality
Loved that video!! Not just for the cool guitar work...which was suuuper cool, even with the oops but as a fellow saved lost boy! Great message!!!
Wow! I am really impressed with what you’ve said here. I’ve been following you now for about a year now. I live here in Oklahoma. Welcome to our state and I hope you have a great stay!
To me I love the tool marks and the chunk replaced. They make the guitar special. Someone could get the same body, the same finish, same everything but those things make that guitar stand out from the rest (besides the fact that no one else has a guitar like this.) I love it.
Dan, thank you for your testimony!!! < God bless all you are doing to bring Him glory!
Oh man that neck plus humbucker bridge is the stuff of my dreams, every setting on this guitar just sounds so fat. Great work as always and great job fixing up the hole too!
Came for the guitar build and stay for the heartfelt speech ♥️
And the guitar looks and sounds amazing
Been following your channel for a while now and never comment on You Tube but had to on this one. You are a genuine all around great guy and I now have a greater respect for you after watching you testimony. I had a similar mistake when building your 1 x 12 bee box. Router chipped out and as a result mine will have to be an open back now. Lost interest in finishing as a result but you have given me inspiration to finish it this weekend. Thanks again for sharing the great content especially the low cost projects that turn out amazing.
Wow thanks for the compliment. You made my day! Glad you’re inspired to finish that cab now!
Great video, Dan. I especially loved the blitzkrieg bop-esque song
Haha I thought it was more Iron Maiden inspired but I see what you mean
Hey Dan! I loved this video, I know I've said this before but you truly are an inspiration, not only as a guitar builder (it's humbling to see that masters make mistakes as well) but as a person as well. Thank you for sharing with us
Absolutely the best video you have made yet! Thanks Dan, oh and the guitar is nice too. God bless you buddy!
Thanks Donovan!
This turned out really nice! Love the sea foam + black wood pick guard and bevelled edge.
Loving the lower cutaway and the headstock!
Nice project, guitar sounds great. I like all the settings involving the humbucker. Hehe, thanks for showing me to think first, route second.
Love your channel. Keep up the good work.
Love the message ! So true!!! Great guitar
Thanks!
Great testimony! Rock on, brother!
Dan, LOVE the testimony!
Best of your videos. Perfect balance of guitar knowledge and spirituality. God bless you.
wow... that is probably the most beautiful Guitar you build! And you also spoke some true Words... kinda straight to the heard
Love this build and the unintended life lesson. 😁 👍
Great build, excellent tone - and superb message brother! This one was several kinds of inspirational to me :-)
Awesome thanks for the encouragement mark!
Thank you for this video, Dan. I’m working on refinishing an old guitar and the process so far has been a disaster, and even though it’s turning around the further I get into it, there are still parts that are less than what I was hoping for. However, your speech at the end inspired me to focus less on making it perfect and more on making it sound as good as I know it can be. Appearance truly is not the most important thing, yet we give it the most time as people, instead of focusing on making ourselves better on the inside. Thank you again, and God bless you.
I’m a 16 year old building my first guitar, and I wanted to tell you that you’ve been an inspiration.
Good message brother....nice playing too!
Nice tune at the beginning!!
Fantastic opportunity to witness with some great insights nice work
Thanks for the encouragement Justin!
Dan, this is your greatest video yet! Keep it up man. You have such an awesome platform. For the people out there that get offended about the convo you had toward the end, dont let it bother you. Keep it up man! Love it!
Thanks Chris, needed a good reminder that appearances are only surface. Who you are deep inside is what really matters.
So been waiting for this video brother
I don't know how I missed this when it posted !? Good to see you Dan ! 👽🎸🎼
