Eddie Vedder has that beautiful gift of taking any song and make it totally new and unique with his own version. Wonderful.

This might be the greatest song ever written. It says so much and feels very simple at the same time. Hearing Eddie and the crowd sing it just broke me down.
I would say it's about John Lennon's vision of Utopia. That may well break down to 'communism', but I don't think that was John's intention when writing the song. We were just beginning to see troops coming home from VietNam, this was an extremely politically charged time in America.
Wow, I'm one of those who didn't know Paul had said this. Kind of surprising considering I'm old as dirt and my husband is the ultimate Beatles fan.
I used to play piano years ago when I was taking my young child to church. I changed up a few of the lyrics and did "Imagine".

Everything Eddie does is automatic gold. This is no different. Brings tears to your eyes, you can hear just how much the words he's singing mean. He's one of the best the world will ever see

Dang, that bass-baritone voice - Only Eddie can nail this tune in that key with ease!
His voice range is incredible. I read somewhere he can cover 5 octaves. I can pretty much make it for 2 octaves. The only other person I've heard of with such a huge range is Cyndi Lauper. Her range is 4 octaves. Amazing!

this man has been lighting my way since I learned how to fly
I'm one of the biggest PJ fans out there, was 18 when they first entered my life in 92, and Eddie, to me, is the greatest writer, and singer, ever, period. But clearly he has lost his voice a bit, as this is a very average to below average cover, and he has done some of the best covers you'll ever hear...."reign over me" vh1 honours the who, "rocking in the free world", "baba o reilly", "masters of war", "crazy Mary", and the list goes on and on. He still has presence though. To any who say he's no good, please go to older(pre-2007) videos of him, and just listen....amazing he is!

Listen just how it still enthuses people to join in and sing along. John Lennon, thanks for writing this song, you were a true genius & ambassador for Peace. All it takes for me is the opening chords & my eyes weep with a joy that hopes we could one day & in my lifetime realise the need for world wide brotherhood / sisterhood & the need to "Live as One". May we attain that level of Nirvana soon, before we destroy the only place we have on which to live.

This made my history teacher cry!!! She is really tough and I suggested she play this for the class and for the woman who has a black belt in marchal arts and who's daughter can make a grown man pee blood for an hour and she is engaged to my band teacher!!! Well she let me look up the song and put it on I didn't think she would cry though (bonus points for the cheerleader!!!) She explained that she cried because of what's happening all over the world mainly ISIS now I listen to this song and cry because of what this world has come to be...(don't make fun of me please I'm only 13!!!)
I got my teacher to play Bohemian Rhapsody and she was about to cry (never knew why but she was about to break down and cry)

Written in the very early 70s, If you've seen the John Lennon video "And So This Is Christmas" I can guarantee it could make even the most heartless badass cry! Killing people over religion? What kind of sense does that make?! And greed? The one who dies with the most toys doesn't win he still dies. I've had many friends from all over the world, many religions from many countries. We are all much more alike than different. I know you're just 13, but I was pretty dang smart when I was your age!!!

Grew up on Shannon Hoon!! Love every song done by blind melon. One band, that was unfortunately over looked. If Shannon wouldn't of died at such a young age. They would still be rocking too. Although in my eyes, Eddie vedder an Neil young are my top two. And consider them the Kings of grunge. But that's just my own opinion. Wish he would cover change also.
