Eddie vedder singing this to thousands of people for one reason, thousands singing back to him for a thousands different reasons. That's the power of music.
7:12 Come back ... and the feelings are completely through the roof. ffs we have to protect Eddie at all cost. He is quite literally the last of this era. RIP Chris...
MJK is there too. He's not the last but what an incredible soul. I do agree with you though I pray he stays with us much longer cause he's a last of a dying breed.
Thank you Eddie for your voice and your presence .. you don't know but you are one of my best frinds. you're always there for me in my best and my worst days. Thank you ❤
My brother died in 2003 in an accident. He was 25 and I was 13, and for many reasons he was also my hero. One week before he passed away, he told me to start to hear some real music, and introduced to me Pearl Jam. Listening to them makes me feel really connected with him, so I can't be more thankful to this band. They marked my brother's life, and the mine too.
I'm actually your age, and my older brother just passed away in January. He always loved 90s rock, especially Pearl Jam. That's what brought me here too. This song hits me completely differently now. I can't help but be saddened in the deepest way listening to this song. It's beautiful though and like you said, it keeps me connected to my brother in some way.
Eddie has never directly talked about Chris's death and how hard it affected him. He was ripped up in social media for not going to the funeral or the tribute concert with Tom Morello and Serj and others, which I think is BS. They were close Lily and Toni call him and the rest of PJ uncle, we all grieve differently, it doesnt change the love we have for that person that passed. The way he breaks down even just the croak in his voice, the sniffle right after you can see the hurt in him. When he choked up it got me, had a few tears come up, even my pooch came over to me to make sure i was ok lol
Eddie spoke several times about Kurt’s death affecting him, Eddie locked himself in a room and wrote a song about Layne the night he was found, Eddie probably hasn’t said much of his feelings of Chris bc it’s painful, he took Kurt’s death hard, he took Layne’s death even harder so who knows how bad he took Chris’ death maybe him not talking about it is his way of grieving
@Association of Free People even in his interview the other day on Howard stern he didnt really answer the question in detail so even 3 years later it is still on his mind and hurts.
Yes he did speak Cris cornell died right after eddie's little brother died he said he had to put himself in denial about Cris because he knew if he didn't he wouldn't be able to come back from it he couldn't handle it so he shut down so his daughters wouldn't see him get worse after just loosing his little brother he was already in too dark of a place watch his interview about it with howard stern he even said he's still in denial he's not yet let it hit him I think he struggles inside more than any of us could imagine that's why so much of his music is emotional
He didn’t go for a reason. Many of Chris friends and family hate Vicky for several reasons. She simply used Chris for his money. She even threatened to sue his brother Peter who was doing a suicide awareness project for Chris. She threatened that if he didn’t end the project immediately, she would sue b/c making it look as if Chris was naturally struggling and was suicidal would affect the outcome of her big lawsuit with the makers of Ativan. She’s disgusting. Many of Chris friends weren’t there because of her and have to grieve him in their own way.
Weiland, Chester, Petty, and so many greats along the way. As you said it’s Eddie for sure as my number one after Chris. We still have Cory Taylor and Aaron Lewis who in my opinion are as great as all of our faves!
@@Aggstastic24I agree with you. It would be amazing to have all of our faves back and here with Eddie. Could you imagine being a grunge fest with today with all of them 🥹. I feel the same about Aaron Lewis and have been listening to him for years. I don’t know how I’ve missed hearing it for all of these years, but I just heard _Layne_ for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Am I the only asshat that has listened to all of these bands for decades, and never heard it before 🫣?
I held it together...until he started singing “Come back, come back...”. Tears welling up in his eyes, the pain clinching his throat to the point where he couldn’t sing more....goddamn....talk about raw emotion spilling out onto the stage!!
They probably didn't like the fact that there's no bass and drums, i think they listened to the first minute and left. It is impossible for someone who watched the whole thing to dislike the video, IMPOSSIBLE.
So sorry man! It hurts when you lose your own brother!! Don’t lose faith man and keep praying!! He’s up there listening to you! And he is no longer in pain!!
My best friend killed him self back on 8 6 19 I know your pain We were the best of friends for 43 Years did it all together first drink in the woods fast cars hot girlfriends alcohol was his biggest enemy he never married just drank I feel so bad for how things turned out for John I never thought-about How alone he must have felt an how dark it was for him to survive Every day I wish I could have saved him as much as I tried wasn’t good enough i miss him tremendously . The first time he didn’t call me on my birthday in 44 years he never forgot
I can easily imagine Chris standing right there beside Eddie on that stage, a hand on Eddie's shoulder, just smiling, tears rolling down his face as he looks down at his dear friend, and out over the audience, feeling the strength of the love among all of them. He's gone, but he'll never be far away...rest in peace, Chris--forever loved, and dearly missed.
For the love of everything rock and grunge... Someone wrap him in freaking bubble wrap and keep a watchful eye on Eddie!!!! I can't go through another Chris or Chester incident. My heart can't take much more!!
Chester Bennington is who she was referring to. Scott Weilland was a tough one, but Chris passing was easily the toughest. Music has a way of connecting the listeners to the musicians on a level I feel most musicians may not even understand themselves.
Black is a song for everyone who could sit on the ground and the whole world is shaking in heart and mind and you don't know who you are or who you should be.. Just all is lost in black... Great performance and great video
This video was so beautiful.. Just a man sitting on an otherwise empty stage with a guitar.. The number of people crying in the audience speaks volumes about this song, I loved it when they sang along to the background humming..
Cristina Pessini i pray daily for his strength. we can not afford to lose another beautiful artist. i cant stop crying. the love he has for chris and chris for he. it just breaks my heart
I don't believe I've ever seen anything like it. His total trust in that audience expressing very personal emotions of pain, silent suffering and anger. Eddie Vedder is an amazing person. And I agree that I also noticed that he is living in the pain right now and wants so badly to think his way out of the loss of his "big brother". But I say to Mr. Vedder, 'we all do' and we all are living in denial for good reason that it just can't be. I say please come off your tour for a few weeks to charge back up because we all have lost so much, we can't fathom the losing you.
I can't stop listening to this..as painful and sad as it is..its so beautiful..a man and his guitar just laying everything out there like that..Eddie always has...this song has made me melt about a zillion times since it was released..the power and theraputic nature of good music
The 90s were filled with pain, loss, deep disappointment for me. This band with many other Seattle bands SAVED me, so I could be here in 2020. Raise my three children and to take them away from Cali in 2000. They grew up to be three amazing, successful happy adults, that went on to give me six awesome grandchildren. I’m 54 now, we’ve lost so many of these great artists 😢 So thank you Eddie, Pearl Jam for everything you’ve given so many!

I think not only is this the best version of this song but its one of my favorite live performances ever. Eddy is into it the crowd is deep into it and there is so much emotion in the air. Plz Eddie give us another 3O years
They were so close, I just pray Eddie knows that because of that closeness, Chris will never truly be far. He'll always be beside him, this performance alone is proof of that.
Chris Cornell loved this song Black😔😢💔 Eddie is so emotional I feel for him, he knows fans are broken hearted over Chris Cornell, it's really hard to watch this, and some people thinking Eddie didn't care about his friend. RIP Chris Cornell 😇💝🌹😔💔 Thank you so very much for sharing this emotional video!!
I have been through black. One too many times. And Eddie, oh Eddie... I was at the Dublin's gig, just tears from my eyes. Cause you're such an amazing human being. Cause you can feel things deeply. Cause you're just like the rest of US. We're lucky to still have YOU...
And wherever you've gone And wherever we might go It don't seem fair You seem to like it here Your lights reflected now Reflected from a far We were but stones Your light made us stars
Love the guy at the end of the video doing his best impression of the Pearl Jam Ten album cover - pointing upwards. Powerful video. Much love to Eddie. RIP Chris - my hero.
Not surprising, but regardless it’s amazing to see one man and his guitar capture the undivided attention of FIFTY THOUSAND captivated people, all at once.
Hey, oh Sheets of empty canvas Untouched sheets of clay Were laid spread out before me As her body once did All five horizons Revolved around her soul As the earth to the sun Now the air I tasted and breathed Has taken a turn Oh and all I taught her was everything Oh I know she gave me all that she wore And now my bitter hands Chafe beneath the clouds Of what was everything Oh the pictures have All been washed in black Tattooed everything I take a walk outside I'm surrounded by Some kids at play I can feel their laughter So why do I sear Oh, and twisted thoughts that spin Round my head I'm spinning Oh, I'm spinning How quick the sun can, drop away And now my bitter hands Cradle broken glass Of what was everything All the pictures had All been washed in black Tattooed everything All the love gone bad Turned my world to black Tattooed all I see All that I am All I'll be Yeah I know someday you'll have a beautiful life I know you'll be a star In somebody else's sky But why Why Why can't it be Why can't it be mine
I love the power of music. When you can release raw energy and emotion on stage and have tens of thousands of people absorb it and send the love right back to the stage. That magical.
I love him. I have seen him in concert & I've never felt so connected. To life. To the force that keeps us here. To others singing with me. It was beautiful. Changed my life & how I look at the world.
That was truly special. I met Eddie just once. I was fortunate enough to spend a couple of hours in his company and he really is the sweetest dude. I hope to do it again one day.
Who can do this? Eddie. That is why they are in the rock and roll hall of fame. because of emotion and raw talent like this. Beaver in the river, .......dam ;)
With this song speaking exactly what I did and feel after losing the woman I was madly in love with, and now that Chris is gone..... I just can't listen to it without bursting into tears uncontrollably..
I felt like that sword went through my heart until the end came, I was static waiting for the end, wonderful song and perhaps the most emotional interpretation of Eddie for me, we feel your pain brother and although we know that Chris will not return but we know that we will reach him. A big hug brother!!
One of the most moving performances I’ve ever seen.🥰Totally heart wrenching! Epic job with this one Eddie! You will always be first class & Chris Cornell is right over your shoulder smiling & rockin’🤘🏻right along with you. 😇R.I.P. man...2 unbelievably talented artists. Vedder singing & his long lost friend whom he’s singing the song to, Cornell.😭The world loves Vedder & Cornell. Please keep making songs that give the listening world goose bumps Eddie?🙏🏻 Never STOP!💓💗
Am I the only one that loved @ 4:25 when he spat right before singing "all that I'll be" cause he knew he had to hit that note and wasn't gonna let no damn mucus and saliva get in his way to hit it and give another legendary performance. Bravo!!
Simplesmente incrível.... Existe musicas boas e existem músicas que ficam para a história, e está eh um belo exemplo de música que vai ficar para várias gerações
There's a girl somewhere in the world who broke Eddie's heart, and she probably lived her life with no idea of the lasting impact of what she did. On the other hand, this song stands as a witness to a love and loss story that we've all experienced at some point. Every time this song plays, a little bit of that person and feeling comes back; sometimes, it brings a smile, other times, it draws a tear.
This shows why this is one of the greatest rock songs (if not the) of all time. The sheer connection between artist and audience, the profound heartbreak and sadness that anyone in that crowd (and we in front of our computer screens) can relate to and the attitude to perform it in the only right way....
Eddie vedder singing this to thousands of people for one reason, thousands singing back to him for a thousands different reasons. That's the power of music.

Hadn't planned on crying today but here we are...when he starts with the "come back"...ugh rip Chris...makes me wish I could just give Eddie a hug
I was fine until he started saying "come back" TEARS! oh the TEARS!
same i started crying like a freaking baby
This still makes me cry...for Eddie's pain, for Chris...
I know it too well. In floods of tears here too. Life sucks xxx

Crushing!
I'm guessing that he could never have imagined how many people he helped with these words. 25 years later and no song touches my soul like this one.
at first.. black was for Beth...then just for anything sad....and now forever it will be for Chris.
lol not for beth he was with beth long long after he wrote this
claudia peters Whos Beth?
his first wife
I thought it was about his girlfriend in high school or something
it was. eddie was with beth until 98 divorced in 2000. The song was about his first love, the girl that had an abortion. Porch is about her as well
this has got to be the most beautiful versions of BLACK i have ever experienced. how awesome
Hi Kevin i highly recommend you to watch this perspective from this same song. Play it loud end enjoy :-) ruclips.net/video/eeBJu2UnTmg/видео.html

TheSupernova78 could not have said it better.
We are so lucky ..true to that I agree ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Muito bom!
And wherever you've gone
And wherever we might go
It don't seem fair
You seem to like it here
Your lights reflected now
Reflected from a far
We were but stones
Your light made us stars
Muito bom!
Love the guy at the end of the video doing his best impression of the Pearl Jam Ten album cover - pointing upwards. Powerful video. Much love to Eddie. RIP Chris - my hero.
I was there. Remember the shooting star at the end.
maybe it was chris
one of the things that i’ll never forget for the rest of my life!!
Federico Vespi me neither brother!
Not surprising, but regardless it’s amazing to see one man and his guitar capture the undivided attention of FIFTY THOUSAND captivated people, all at once.
Hey, oh
Sheets of empty canvas
Untouched sheets of clay
Were laid spread out before me
As her body once did
All five horizons
Revolved around her soul
As the earth to the sun
Now the air I tasted and breathed
Has taken a turn
Oh and all I taught her was everything
Oh I know she gave me all that she wore
And now my bitter hands
Chafe beneath the clouds
Of what was everything
Oh the pictures have
All been washed in black
Tattooed everything
I take a walk outside
I'm surrounded by
Some kids at play
I can feel their laughter
So why do I sear
Oh, and twisted thoughts that spin
Round my head
I'm spinning
Oh, I'm spinning
How quick the sun can, drop away
And now my bitter hands
Cradle broken glass
Of what was everything
All the pictures had
All been washed in black
Tattooed everything
All the love gone bad
Turned my world to black
Tattooed all I see
All that I am
All I'll be
Yeah
I know someday you'll have a beautiful life
I know you'll be a star
In somebody else's sky
But why
Why
Why can't it be
Why can't it be mine
thanks
Ohhh we belong we belong together together
what do I sear?????
Infinito Eddie un GIGANTE!!!💪💪💪
These are not right lyrics. Better edit
so raw, only love can break your heart
This Man is SO IMPORTANT TO MUSIC.....He has saved my life many times and doesn't even know it...
This is one of the most emotional perfomances I have ever seen. Simply beautiful.
I'm not crying, you're crying! :'(
We are
i was at this concert.. i feel lucky
@M.J. C. Firenze, Italy
I love the power of music. When you can release raw energy and emotion on stage and have tens of thousands of people absorb it and send the love right back to the stage. That magical.
Someone please take this onion cutters ninjas outta here
Rafael C.R.Alves i cry, i rewind i watch again, i cry harder, i watch again repeat......so heart breaking
Too many of those bastards around when Eddie is singing
I can give away my life just to see him perform live once in my lifetime
THAT VOICE...really gets to me.
I love him. I have seen him in concert & I've never felt so connected. To life. To the force that keeps us here. To others singing with me. It was beautiful. Changed my life & how I look at the world.
Welp, I need a hug after watching this :(
"We are one and...we (I) are many."
The words of a man who knows his anthem sings out from his soul to a collective, resonating hence from.
7:12 oh my god.......
The most amazing version I ever heard...I love how you can hear the emotion in his voice....I love him
I do too. For a long time. How can u not? Just look at him! Dayummmm!
That was truly special. I met Eddie just once.
I was fortunate enough to spend a couple of hours in his company and he really is the sweetest dude. I hope to do it again one day.
What a heartfelt tribute to Chris! I can't turn of my tears!
June 2024. refreshing this video because it deserves it
Powerful. One of my all time favorite songs. The emotion is crippling.
Who can do this? Eddie. That is why they are in the rock and roll hall of fame. because of emotion and raw talent like this. Beaver in the river, .......dam ;)
This was a dedication to CHRIS CORNELL, see other video of rhis...it's why he was so emotional 😭
One of the BEST "sad" songs ever! Ranks right up there with Hank Williams-"I'm so lonesome I could cry". Now that's a helluva comparison!
So powerful and emotional. Love how the crowd carries him. He misses hos brother Chris.
Interpretação mais intensa que já vi dessa canção. Lindo, puro, doído, verdadeiro demais!
With this song speaking exactly what I did and feel after losing the woman I was madly in love with, and now that Chris is gone..... I just can't listen to it without bursting into tears uncontrollably..
Oh god when he cracked at the end I lost it holy hell
and so the healing begins, RIP CHRIS CORNELL
I felt like that sword went through my heart until the end came, I was static waiting for the end, wonderful song and perhaps the most emotional interpretation of Eddie for me, we feel your pain brother and although we know that Chris will not return but we know that we will reach him. A big hug brother!!
I hope he never stops writing or singing.
Please keep making songs that give the listening world goose bumps Eddie?🙏🏻
Never STOP!💓💗
3:38 - the magic of good music.
What a Beautiful people beautiful crowd what a beautiful performance just perfect !
Am I the only one that loved @ 4:25 when he spat right before singing "all that I'll be" cause he knew he had to hit that note and wasn't gonna let no damn mucus and saliva get in his way to hit it and give another legendary performance. Bravo!!
Come Back Come Back Come Back.......Oh Eddie you have me in tears 😥💔 for the pain of the friend you lost.xxxx.
God bless Chris Cornell....love you brother, hope you found peace
Simplesmente incrível.... Existe musicas boas e existem músicas que ficam para a história, e está eh um belo exemplo de música que vai ficar para várias gerações
Vedder really is an emotional aesthetic experience...
Black. One of the most beautiful songs in history.
holy fucking shit.
I can’t even tell you how much this song means to me...
Just so sad and uplifting at the same time. ........just gonna live my life in the black.
Wish I was there thx for posting and thx for you tube or wouldn't be able get a glimpse of great emotional live performances such as this
There's a girl somewhere in the world who broke Eddie's heart, and she probably lived her life with no idea of the lasting impact of what she did. On the other hand, this song stands as a witness to a love and loss story that we've all experienced at some point. Every time this song plays, a little bit of that person and feeling comes back; sometimes, it brings a smile, other times, it draws a tear.
Eddie WE LOVE YOU. Thank you. So beautiful this stage moment. I went through the black.
italians are a great people...look at the emotion and passion in their faces! FORZA ITALIA!! GOd bless you from the USA!
Bellisima
Hey there was at least two Englishmen there too 🙂
this song makes me so emotional. it's just beautiful.
Rip Taylor😔
He sang that to Chris Cornell... so sad Eddie ... you gave voice to our pain of losing Chris
This shows why this is one of the greatest rock songs (if not the) of all time. The sheer connection between artist and audience, the profound heartbreak and sadness that anyone in that crowd (and we in front of our computer screens) can relate to and the attitude to perform it in the only right way....
