I love listening to talented people. They sound as though they have been touring for thirty years. And hearing Robin sing, he's only twenty-six years old. Wow.
From what I have heard (and what I can see in this video), this 2-day concert almost turned into a riot scene at times, literally. The fandom around these guys at this location was almost to the dangerous level
The Cheap Trick at Budokan shows have stood up against ever rock music fad over the last 40 years and still shines today. They were smart enough to not hitch onto a label and just were themselves. If you told me this was a new band and the concert was last week, I'd say "they're a great young band". And I reckon if you asked some young people who were into rock music they'd agree. I am a bit envious, but very happy I can still listen!
It's too bad Epic held their best back...worse yet, made them a "house band". CT deserved a better label, they were basically enslaved, throttled. Can you imagine how big they'd've been if a label other than Epic picked them up? If they were big then, they'd be monstrous now.
@@valeriepavlistikova9132 Wish I could take credit for that line, but it's a comment from Rick when they went back to play Budokan Hall in 2008 on the 30th anniversary of the original Live at Budokan concert in 1978. 👍
My all time favorite American band. My second favorite all time would be Green Day. Third Eagles. Fourth The Replacements. 5th REM. I'll stop there. I had not listened to them for a long time, had forgotten how great this song was. Not sure what made me think of it.
History tells us how great these shows were. Stand the test of time so well. How many of today's bands will have such a rich back catalogue? I wasted so many years not knowing how great this band are! Seen the light now! 🤗
Some friend and I went to a CT concert just after Budokan was released. I had all the albums they had released up to that point, but they had no idea who these guys were. They were totally gobsmacked. One guy went as far as throwing away all his Yes albums.
Heaven Tonight. Top ten album in my collection. No offense Zep, Clapton, Elvis, Doors, Genesis. Steely, Miles, Oscar, Skynyrd, Allman's, Journey, KISS, Meatloaf, Queen, Bruce, etc.
I still can't figure out what's going on in this song, I mean, what's up with the Spanish in the verses? But the fact that the most all-American of American bands are playing a song full of WW2 nazi and kommakozzi imagery in Japan and the crowd is just eating it up gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling.

This concert was 45 years ago, and they are *still touring right now*.
Damn, freaking Bun E. Carlos. That man is just a beast, plain and simple.
One of THE best timekeepers, for sure!
How many months behind were BEC's drums again?
This song was at least 10 years ahead of it's time, incredible.
Last great American rock band still standing. They win.
Blue Oyster Cult too.
Those drums must’ve done something personal to Bun E for him to be smacking them that hard!
Three months behind?

Mr. Tom Petersson on the bass!
R.Z. is incredible!
The Midwest gave us so many great bands back then

So sad that more of the footage didn't focus on Rick's antics...still Im grateful this video exists!
Drums are awesome.

Tom Peterson was a babe!!!!!❤️❤️❤️
“Well we made the Budokan famous, but the Budokan made us famous”
Not the Fab Four?
Best observation I've ever seen. :D And I'm a scientist

"We're really big in Japan."
So good.
God, look at Bun E. from 1:30 to 1:40... I also play drums... my comment.... speechless.

Soundgarden isn’t so original now are they are?!
THAT AINT WORKIN
they totally steal the foo fighters sound in the last two minutes
that’s odd considering the foo fighters came out 20 years after this
@@marialordots5979 I think (or hope) he as trying to be funny. :)
SMH
Wasn't this also aired on TV? I distinctly remember seeing this show on TV when I was a kid.
They were always a great live band
There are a lot of acts that deliver more energy live than in-studio...such as Peter Frampton, Humble Pie, so on...Cheap Trick is one of those acts.
Straight up rock'n roll played with conviction
Cheap Trick just kicked ass, they still do!!
Putain , çà c'est du rock, moi je suis fan depuis toujours et franchement je les adore toujours!A french fan

Bun E. Carlos is a BEAST on the drum kit! A monster of a drumbeat goin'. Pure genius.

All of these phrases mean good night or goodbye. Buenas noches is good night in Spanish
I mean overall the song is about suicide and some people call death comparable to a sleep you can never wake up from.
