When a surface current (red arrows) ceases or strongly diminishes (ex : south of Greenland, at 0:30, or in the northern part of the Weddel Sea), this means that the water flow turns downwards, forming deep and bottom water. Conversely, when a deep current (blue arrows) ceases or strongly weakens (ex : Central North Pacific, at 1:50), this means that the water flow turns upwards : it is an upwelling area, where surface waters are enriched by mineral elements formed and collected in the deep waters, allowing the development of a slow but vivid biological chain, from plancton to the biggest predators.
But the most efficient upwellings are induced by the wind blowing towards the equator along the western coasts of the continents (if they are oriented roughly North-South).
Hi there, Im creating a video for a charity on ocean gyres and was wondering whether I could use 10 seconds of your video above ?
Thank You!
is it just me? or the whole video doesnt have an audio??
It does not 😃
You ain't alone
Perfect. Explained everything
Very beautiful...
Nice
WOOOW.
Are the warmer currents in ocean flowing more north and cooler currents flowing more south?
Any questions? Send an email to our User Support: service.desk@mercator-ocean.fr
These Ocean Currents are physically and mathematically impossible on the Heliocentric spinning globe model.
😂
Hi! Could I use this video for a video lesson?? We uoload them in RUclips as creative commons
Xacobo de Toro Cacharrón yes! Please use it.
Copernicus Marine Service thank you ver much!!
Wow😍😍😍
No sound 🔇
Eloquent and beautiful! Now...now...the Beaufort Gyre stalls, its less saline, warmer, low density "Hump" drains, drifts, blankets AMOC, and shuts off the Gulf Stream to Europe. Paris, France is 460 miles north of Boston, US. Welcome to catastrophic Global Cooling, "conneries." "8^>)
Totally insufficient time spent exploring the currents in the Pacific and absolutely nil exploring the Arctic flows
anyone else see how easy it would be for an Australian to travel the world. ( either from Kimberley , sunshine coast and south east )
I was listening to a remix while watching this LOL.
