You’re a wonderful, sweet, kind human being. The vast majority of people wouldn’t even think about adopting an old and overweight chihuahua. But you did. He was probably depressed from losing his mom after so many years. You came along and gave him a second chance of living a beautiful life. You not only gave him a home, you also improved his physical and mental health health. You made his last three years of his life, heaven on earth. You are the best.
I may stop having pets after my Boston dies. It's just been getting harder each time another one dies. I was wretched when my Chihuahua died of a heart attack July 5th, 2020, because people in my neighborhood kept shooting off fireworks until they were done with what they had. She was terrified of the noise. I screamed loud enough to blow a lightbulb (which I didn't realise was possible). My heart dies a little each time, and I don't want to have a new baby outlive me, with me having no guarantee they'll keep having a good life.
@@injunsun Not being sarcastic, but do you like certain birds as pets? Their life expectancy is MUCH longer. You would need to learn about how to care for them, very different from cats or dogs. One good thing, smaller dogs generally have longer life expectancy, so you should have your friend longer.
@@injunsun I'm so sorry to hear about your little Chihuahua dying from a heart attack because of bloody fireworks, what a waste of a much loved animal and I understand you not wanting to get any more dogs after your Boston dies because you would be afraid of leaving it behind if you die first. This is how I feel with my present dog, I live in great fear of dying first and having to leave her. There are animal charities I can contact who will take my pet if I die and find her a new home, but even that upsets me as I know she will miss me and wonder where I am. It's also sad to know that when she goes, there will be no more dogs for me, so you see Herne, you are not alone, I suspect there will be plenty of us in this predicament. You could maybe get an old dog who only has a couple of years left, or maybe foster, but again, I know that when the time comes, it will be hard to let go. Grief is the price we pay for LOVE and personally, I wouldn't be without that love, would you ? Best wishes.
The three years this sweet lady gave Shorty were filled with so much love that when he crossed the Rainbow Bridge, he did so on wings of love and his dear doggie heart filled with all the wonderful memories they made together. PLEASE -- Please don't overlook an old dog or one with health issues. Fur can turn grey, vision dim, bones creak and muscles move slower --- but the heart remains ageless and just as capable of loving and being loved.
I definitely appreciate people that go out of their way to help such animals But even a typical healthy pet is a lot of work and expensive to take care of It requires more of that if you get an animal with issues knowingly unfortunately Rescue pets that have fosters or fundraisers to help cover healing or care costs are definitely lucky But people definitely need to be prepared to be able to provide the proper care needed for a pet with special requirements Unfortunately some people can’t even take care of a “healthy pet “ It’s a big responsibility If you were to adopt/rescue such a pet and then be unable to care for it properly the animal would probably get in worse condition or perhaps rehomed
@@premchand828 We don't eat dogs in the US!!! Maybe they do in your homeland, but not here EVER!!!! Maybe you're making a joke, but IT'S NOT FUNNY!!! We hold our pets dear to us, like our children. Would you eat one of your children??
It's wonderful that she was there for him, but you can't say that was his best 3 yrs... You cant know his story prior to that with his deceased owner. Unfortunately, older ppl will feed their pets anything and everything, sneaking food under the table or hiding it in his pockets for them later. I know my father's chihuahua's got fat in the latter part of his life, he had dementia and would overfeed them, but he loved those dogs and they were the one thing he recalled when he lost all memory of my mother, myself, and other family members. They have lost the weight in the 9 months since he passed but it wasn't done out of abuse or not caring. But indeed the final 3 years he had were lovely women were indeed good for him.
@@sarita065 oh I’m positive it was the best 3 years for him. He probably felt terrible with his disease that was neglected and being over fed. Sometimes older folks don’t take care of their animals and just ignore them. Hate to say it but it’s true.
@@sarita065 I am sure every year was the "best year" for him. Because dogs can be like that. For sure he was blessed the last three. He was alone in the world after his momma passed. Just the right person walked by to see him, so he didn't die in a shelter.
@@sarita065 Plus dementia is a thing. Some older people with dementia will feed there dogs like 8 times a day because they keep forgetting they already fed their dog.
The owner he knew all his life passed away. He landed in a rescue. Dogs like him usually become very depressed, but you can see he was very happy and lively after you adopted him and gave him his life back. You made an old dog's last years very happy! 💞
@@namegoeshere197 Usually a dog or other creature abandoned in nature dies very shortly as prey to a stronger animal, to disease, or to starvation. That's why they call rescue, rescue.
My rescued chi's owner died and her owner's relative wanted to shoot her in the yard before someone took her away from him. Took me two years to get her to open up. They bond for life and require so much love to get back onto their feet. My girl's pushing ten, but still fine. Can't imagine a life where these old dogs don't get the love they deserve.
Could be just 3 years for you, but for him, it was his life... Thank you for giving him the chance to have all the love and care he deserves in his last years❤️
Yes! ❤️🐕 Shorty had hypothyroidism BUT, it's awfully easy for Chihuahuas to overeat and get fat even when they have a normal thyroid. I'm so happy Shorty got his playful healthy weight back! ❤️🐕🙏🏽 Bless everyone who adopts a dog who needs a home.
@@zxyatiywariii8 I recently adopted a kitten that is ripping my house asunder but my little 3 yr old care is loving and laughing himself to distraction at her tomfoolery it’s a joy to see her and him getting all the exercise god intended them to get at such a young age together. I love kids and kittens.
:'( I just adopted a 12 year old chihuahua from the shelter and I just love this guy! So sweet and so happy, he has helped me thru my husband's death and my chihuahua is very dear to me.
Very similar situation for me, too. My chihuahua has been my main joy & source of support the past 2 years, truly. Don't know what I would've done without him, and yet I never intended to keep him when we first took him in 7 yrs ago as an emerg foster. Now it's just him & me. He's a warm, furry little bandaid on my broken heart. 💗
You probably gave Shorty the best 3 years of his life! What a precious, sweet little guy! God bless you and your mom for caring about these beautiful, loving furry gifts of life!
I'm sure the woman who was Shorty's previous owner before she passed away was looking down from heaven and very grateful that such a wonderful woman adopted him.
Yes, I imagine she was with Shorty in spirit there at the PS rescue, just wishing for someone like this lovely young woman to see and love him until they could be reunited again.
@@captivating-culprit7484 i agree. it's like the parent who is afraid to tell their child no because they don't want their kid mad at them, but by letting them get fat , it's bad for their health. RIP shorty.
The first dog I adopted from a shelter, I only got to have 6 months with her. She had undiagnosed kidney problems and when we found out, it was already too late. She was an absolute treasure and a year later I still can barely think abouther without crying. I have now adopted two dogs from a rescue and they are slowly mending my heart with their crazy antics :)
adopted/shelter doggos really are something, all of them have such great personalities I work as a volunteer in a shelter and theres nothing better than spending time with these goofballs!
Sometimes their souls are so bright that even a few months can feel like a lifetime. That's how we felt with our little Winnifred. Found a cat outside our house one day. She'd sit at the edge of the pool and we worried she would fall in and drown so one day we just hung around outside to see if she would approach us and she practically ran to us when we called 'kitty kitty'. She was a beautiful tortie Persian but you would not have known it looking at her. Matted beyond hell and a bag of bones beneath it. She was clearly dumped since she was also declawed with no chip/collar. I was unemployed at the time so while my husband was at work I'd work on getting the mats out a little bit at a time with a comb and scissors since the clippers couldn't feasibly cut through and eventually I found the cat beneath the fur. I remember her being so much happier without all that weight, despite being clearly dumped and starving, she just got that look on her little face that shined like you could tell she felt better already. We had a great year with her and pampered her as much as we could seeing how she came from such a bad place. The vet we had at the time (he was just a careless mess and turns out later he got in trouble for a lot of misdiagnoses of other patients and no longer in practice, thank god) checked her and said besides a high white blood count, she was fine. I felt in my gut that something was wrong since she wasn't putting on weight well and had a bit of blood in her urine, but he assured us she was fine. Fast forward, my husband and I come home from work and she stumbles up to us, part of her intestines poking out of her rectum. Rushed her to the emergency vet and they gave her a very very low chance of happiness even with the surgery they could perform. I couldn't bear to see her suffer anymore after everything, so I gave them the go ahead and we accompanied her in her final moments with us as she purred away from all the love. Even typing all this I'm tearing up and it's hard looking at her pictures knowing if I had just followed my gut she may still be here. EDIT: Forgot to mention, but it turns out she had hookworms that weakened her intestinal wall and caused the prolapse. What angered me about the emergency vet telling us this is that the previous vet had caught the high white blood cell count (which can be a sign of such an infestation) but didn't bother to test further through a fecal sample. One test would have saved her life. Moral of the story- if you feel a diagnoses might be wrong or incomplete, always get that second opinion!
@@Cloverkitty Thank you for doing your very best to help and love that poor, sweet, abandoned cat. She knows how much you loved her - I wish you had more time with her. You are so right, if your intuition and heart tell you something isn't right, get a second opinion if possible. You're a good and kind person to have helped her. I wish only peace and happiness for you and your family. 💖🌈🐈🙏💖💐
I truly hope you don't mind me saying that animals do reincarnated...I had 2 toy poodles who came back, and we found one another again. I cannot prove it, but I know it.
Actually, most people think that 1 human year is 7 for a dog, but that is incorrect. The 1st year is 7, then it increases for dogs. The 2nd year is more like 10 years and and it increases the older they get. 3 is 12, 4 is more like 17 etc... that's why dogs start getting gray hair, between 5 and 7 years of age, because they are in there 60's almost 70's by then.
You not only blessed Shorty, you blessed his first mommy, can you imagine how much she loves you for adopting her baby after she was gone. You have two angels in heaven loving on you!
HawtDawg well I certainly hope this wasn’t on purpose, it sounded to me like the owner was elderly. And that’s very sad if anyone’s doing that intentionally because they think it’s cute-because you’re right if that’s the case not good for the animals, not good at all
Not ashamed to say I was tearing up at the end. Proud Chihuahua owner here; there's just something about them that melts the hearts of even big gruff men like myself. God bless you for adopting Shorty.
Same. My little guy is 15 and laying right next to me. I know he's up there in age but he's still a little Fiesty butt head (in the best of ways). Wish we could post pics in our responses.
I adopted a senior chiweenie from a high kill shelter where he’d been “surrendered”because his other family “didn’t have time anymore to give him the attention he deserves.” I’ve had him since 2015. Based on the info I was given, he’s about 21 now. He’s a grumpy old curmudgeon who basically tolerates the other canines but still thinks he rules the house. He has cataracts and arthritis and he can’t go up steps by himself anymore. He’s my little Buddy though and I dread the day when he crosses. ❤️💔
Love is a wonderful thing...I just lost my best little friend "Beans" (a toy poodle mix) (the cutest, kindest, most loyal friend a guy could have) 2 weeks ago...he got hit by a car...anda big part of me died
@@stevedriscoll2539 I’m so sorry. “There is a cycle of love and death that shapes the lives of those who choose to travel in the company of animals. It is a cycle unlike any other. To those who have never lived through its turnings or walked its rocky path, our willingness to give our hearts with full knowledge that they will be broken seems incomprehensible; our grief, no matter how powerful it may be, is an insufficient measure of the joy we have been given.” - Unknown
It was 1 year ago yesterday that I had to say goodbye to my boy Wilf, I am still heartbroken and cry all the time, 6 months after Wilf passed my Other dog fred passed, he was never the same after we lost wilf and I believe he died from a broken heart, I know how you feel about dreading the day that you lose your fur baby, I wish you well and hope you have many more happy cherished years together ❤ I hope one day I will be able to adopt another dog, at the moment I'm not ready xx
But they were the BEST 3 years of his life !!!!!! Also, the healthiest years of his life !!!!! I'm so glad that you were in the right place at the right time and you were able to adopt him !!!!! Shorty looked so sad and UNHEALTHY when he first came to know you, and know he looks soooooooo VERY happy !!!!!!!!! You are so sweet to have saved his life and I'm sure that he appreciated ALL the love and happiness that you gave him in his senior years !!!!!!!!!!! Thank you for being there for him !!!!!
I don't know if they were the best years, and I mean that in the nicest way, no shade to this lady at all. I've known many forgetful elderly people who fatten up their pets due to forgetting they've already fed them, and immediately thought this is what happened this time. It might not have been like this during the dogs entire life, and they could have been very kind and doting. Plus, dogs getting miserable stuck in a shelter isn't uncommon.
I’m sure his previous owner wasn’t MEAN to him, just neglectful of his weight. There’s a lot of jolly fat people out there, it’s unfortunately just how they live and they don’t know any better. Doesn’t help that the worst food is the cheapest lmao
Making your dog obese is 100% animal abuse, you are the one feeding the dog and providing it of exercise. An overweight dog struggles to walk and breath, the extra pressure in it's heart and joint shortens it's life span, I grew up with a German Shepherd and despise of it's big size it couldn't overeat or it could die, we make sure to monitor her and keep her healthy, people that overfeed dog don't deserve them
It's not "animal abuse" if the previous owner didn't do it on purpose. She was elderly, so she could have been overfeeding due to forgetfulness, like the commnt above me said, OR she could have just loved the dog too much and fed it too many treats and snacks that weren't good for the dogs health. So again, not abuse, just not necessarily the best for the doggie's weight problem.
Can confirm, I've had a beagle live to sixteen and a pibby mix live to around fourteen, and both didn't live long enough. My chi is nine pushing ten and I'll never have enough time with her either.
@@Topdoggie7 I agree! I had a Cocker & a Shih Tzu that died a few months short of turning 14. My current pets are 2 Shih Tzu, 11 & 13, and a former feral cat, 11. It seems like just the other day they were puppies!! I'm not looking forward to their demise. Their lifespan is too short! But, at least I know I won't be leaving them behind to finish out their last years with a stranger. My husband, children & a close friend will be there for them if need be.
He had a whole three years of being loved and cuddled, regained his physical autonomy, chilled with another dog, instead of having a painful early death with joint pain, inability to move, maybe worse diseases as well. Thank you and your mom for saving Shorty and giving him a miracle
You gave Shorty such an incredible last 3 years of his life. You got him back to health. I'm certain he appreciated all the good things you did for him. God Bless! 🐕
So sad that his previous owner passed away and you could literally see his sadness and then you come along and became his new Mommy and gave him an amazing amount of love and happiness in his last days so thank you! The world could definitely use a lot more people like you!
Bless your heart, girl. Your kindness, sweetness, patience, generosity melt my heart and made my cry. We need more people like you. Thank you for all that you do for our animals.
Giving broccoli to a carnivore is NOT kind. You can't give meat to a rabbit, and you can't expect a carnivore to be healthy on a diet meant for a rabbit.
You gave him back his activities, his dignity, his personality, and his freedom to run if he wanted or just chill and you let him know he’s loved ✨✨✨and he’s waiting for you on the rainbow 🌈 bridge ❤️
I've watched this a few times, and I still cry at the end. It's a good cry, sad that he's not here but good because you gave him the love he needed and deserved. He didn't understand his previous owner died, he just knows she isn't there anymore. How sweet it was to watch him thrive in your care.
You gave him the best years of his life and that’s all that we can ever hope for. I thank god that there are people like you who would give a chance to a dog who was probably overlooked by most people. God bless you.
You did an AMAZING job taking care of him. The fact that you loved on him and managed to help him lose all that weight so he could be healthy was FANTASTIC!!!
When you have a pet, the years FLY by. I had a cat for 13 years, she died at 15, so I couldn't believe it seemed like such a short time. Treasure your furbabies! Shorty was adorable!
Very caring. Honestly, I'm not sure that I would have thought of doing that. I love little Shorty and I pray that the world gets more humans like this wonderful lady.
Yes. I agree how she thought about his joints. Did the water exercise to lose weight. Instead of the usual walk for a younger dog. This makes me want to go back being a vegetarian. Seeing they are still being eating in Asia. Hundred years ago. They would be left outdoors to fend foe themselves
Senior animals are just something so special, it makes me sad so few people consider adopting them, I had 4 amazing years with my senior cat, but whether you get one year or 15, it’s honestly never enough time, they’re family and it’s sad we typically outlive them regardless. My home is open to animals of any age who need me.
Underrated comment. Never a truer statement out there: "Whether you get one or 15, it's honestly never enough time." It feels unfair that we usually outlive our sweet pets.
It is so wonderful that the last three years of Shorty's life were so full of love, happiness, and good health! What a blessing this woman was for him! 🥰
God bless you! You are such a wonderful human ! THANK YOU for adopting a senior dog! You made the ultimate commitment by taking him home. You did not know his full health condition yet you still nurtured him through every step and gave him a warm and loving home to spend his final years. He deserved that. It seems like you both enriched and blessed each other’s lives. Also thank your mom for fostering dogs! Foster parents rock!
I'm so happy that you were able to give this elderly sweet little gentleman such a more wonderful and healthy life in his twilight years than he otherwise would have had.
You did such a wonderful job getting him rehabilitated. The hypothyroidism diagnosis certainly assisted your journey. What a sweet a little chihuahua. You gave him a second chance and extended his life. ❤
This put a tear in my eyes. Thank you for taking him to the vet, that is a miracle in itself, because a lot of people who own dogs don’t have the finances for that. One could have easily thought “oh I’ll just limit his food and take him for walks and his fat will melt away”. Not so with hypothyroidism. People need to understand that dogs can have the same hormone diseases as humans. My chihuahua ended up the Cushing’s Disease, a disorder where there is a high cortisol level. You are a wonderful lady, you saved this dogs life.
@@isiriscasiano3719 I’m sorry to hear that. Did the vet give you any explanation as to why your dog developed Cushings? We’re not sure how or why our chihuahua ended up with it. One idea I had was that she had an odd reaction to the Rabies shot. We didn’t want to give her the second one, but the vets’ office refused to care for her if we didn’t do it. It’s either that or hereditary. I really would like to know.
That’s so true, even with cats. I have 5 cats and 6 dogs, and none of my friends or family knew that our pets can get the same diseases as us. I have a 14 year old senior cat, Moe, who has gingivostomatitis, gum disease; and I have a 10 year old senior cat, Muffin, who is deaf. My 4 year old snowshoe kitty, Charlie, just passed the day before Halloween of Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy, heart disease. All of my pups are healthy at this time, but it’s so important to take them for their annual check ups if it can be afforded, to catch these terrible diseases in their early stages; that way they’re more treatable with a much higher survival rate.
@@janaj2748 I’m sorry to hear of your 4 year-old cat passing of heart disease. That’s very young. Your animals are lucky to have an owner who takes them to a vet in times of need. How did you know something was happening with Charlie?
@@leannegreen7830 I actually didn’t 😥 And that’s the sad thing. She was perfectly healthy, very active, and had an appetite like my grown pit bulls, lol. The only thing that I can remember, that I now know was a symptom, ( but didn’t know at the time ), was in the summertime when she was about a year old, I used to let them go outside to explore while I would be doing yard work; and Charlie was running and climbing tree’s one day, when she got very hot and started panting with her mouth open. So I brought her inside and laid her by the air conditioner to cool her off, then she was fine. That’s the only time she ever showed any kind of symptom. The morning she passed away, I was getting ready for work, when I heard my husband screaming for me from the kitchen. He said Charlie was choking on something 😓 So I rushed in and saw blood everywhere. She was gagging, coughing, and blood was coming from her mouth and nose. I tried CPR and everything I could possibly think of, but she died a few minutes later in my arms. I called into work and took her little body to the vet, where they performed an autopsy; and sure enough, heart disease was the culprit. The vet said there’s no way I could have known, and all of her regular blood tests and check ups had always been good/normal. She said most times, even in dogs, heart disease shows no warnings; therefor it’s called the silent killer. I know Charlie was happy and she knew she was loved. She was my little tomboy kitty. I stressed myself so much waiting on her autopsy results. I researched everything I could on the internet, and heart disease was actually one of the things that popped up. I miss her with every bit of my soul, even though I have 5 other cats, and 6 dogs; there’s still a void. I miss her on the back of the couch where she would nap, I miss her scratching on my bedroom door to get loves, I miss her waiting for me at my front door when she would hear me come home from work every day, I miss her big blue eyes that looked like a frozen summer sky, I miss her quirky meows and her loud purrs, I miss her every day at feeding time, bc her spot where she would patiently wait for her plate of food is now empty. But knowing there’s nothing I could have done, and nothing that could have helped her makes me feel a little better. I definitely don’t regret having the autopsy done, or I would still be on the internet stressed out, searching for answers.
Three years of happiness after the shock of losing his previous owner and getting back to normal weight 🥲 I'm very impressed with this lady, the level of care she gave the little fella is admirable to say the least. It´s never to early for the right emotions. Don´t fell sad about Shorty just let happy tears roll down your cheeks, by knowing that he got the best at the end. Being able to walk/run and play again on his on to the fullest and be loved all the time to the moon and back by a caring human being.
Shorty had a good life. He was sad his mom died, but he got adopted by a great new mom who took the BEST care of him. He’s had such a personality!! What a funny guy!!
Yes, I bet he DID have a lot of love in his previous life. He loved his Mom. Then he found himself alone, but a lovely young lady saw him and had to have him. What a wonderful way to end your life- cared for, loved and with friends.
Nothing but respect to those who adopt seniors as you're doing it for them, not for yourself. Three wonderful years for Shorty as a slimmer and happier dog.
You made SHORTY whole, like he never was. You made him happy. Perfect. That was your mission, Shorty's mom, and you accomplished it so beautifully. He is in Heaven now. ❤
I love how when she'd talk with him, he'd bark all hyperly and excited, that's literally how my dog gets too 💀 Super hyper af when I say something like "You want a treat?" Or "You wanna go for a walk?" Because she's that excited for what I'm about to give her food 😭❤️ I know it's heartbreaking for her to have lose him so early, but he definitely went happy and full of love in his little heart 💖

I'm glad for her honesty in saying she wishes she had him longer, but I hope she knows she probably gave him the best 3 years he could have had! In the shelter he would have died sooner, with way less fun and love. If I'm ever in my own house, I hope to foster senior pets. :)
Thank you for adopting a senior dog & giving him a loving home! I wish more people would open their hearts & homes to senior pets. I just lost my little buddy Rocky. He was a Jack Russell we found running in the street when both he & our oldest daughter were both 3 years old. He was 2 weeks shy of turning 20 when he crossed the rainbow bridge! We know his birthday because we eventually found his original owners. They didn't want him so we happily kept him! He was my little shadow! I miss him terribly!
You were the love he never thought he would find again when his previous owner had to leave him. Sounds like you learned your loving and compassionate ways from YOUR Mom. Bless you both. Shorty will be waiting for you.
I can imagine Shorty finding the lady that originally had him and telling her all about how this lady took such great care of him in his last few years
I'm sorry for your loss. Just this short video it showed how much of a larger than life personality Shorty had. And as someone with 2 adopted dogs I thank you for saving this sweet older dog.
Thanks for adopting him and giving him lots of love and respect in his last years. Senior dogs are often passed by, it’s great that you took the time to save him from his weight gain and loneliness.

Bless her sweet soul! Adopting an older dog/cat is such a wonderful thing to do. The life she gave Shorty at the end of his long life, just beautiful. I adopted a very neglected, abandoned shih tzu who was very elderly. We only had him for maybe 6 months. To hold him after he was clean and de-matted and happy and to see him sitting in the sun at peace was so incredibly special.

You can hear the grief in her voice when she says that she wished she’d been able to have Shorty for more than three years. My heart goes out to her..
Mine does too, she had me crying when she said that. What a lovely life you had with her little one xx
Oh sorry, I realized that there would be the issue of the bird outliving you.
What a beautiful comment about age, and a loving heart ❤️
I definitely appreciate people that go out of their way to help such animals
But even a typical healthy pet is a lot of work and expensive to take care of
It requires more of that if you get an animal with issues knowingly unfortunately
Rescue pets that have fosters or fundraisers to help cover healing or care costs are definitely lucky
But people definitely need to be prepared to be able to provide the proper care needed for a pet with special requirements
Unfortunately some people can’t even take care of a “healthy pet “
It’s a big responsibility
If you were to adopt/rescue such a pet and then be unable to care for it properly the animal would probably get in worse condition or perhaps rehomed
But rescue pets in general are definitely a great way to adopt a new companion

She gave him the best 3 years of his life, full of love, something he wouldn't have gotten if she hadn't rescued him from the shelter.

I have now adopted two dogs from a rescue and they are slowly mending my heart with their crazy antics :)
adopted/shelter doggos really are something, all of them have such great personalities
I work as a volunteer in a shelter and theres nothing better than spending time with these goofballs!
She knows how much you loved her - I wish you had more time with her. how old dose a chihuahua get?
Actually, most people think that 1 human year is 7 for a dog, but that is incorrect. The 1st year is 7, then it increases for dogs. The 2nd year is more like 10 years and and it increases the older they get. 3 is 12, 4 is more like 17 etc... that's why dogs start getting gray hair, between 5 and 7 years of age, because they are in there 60's almost 70's by then.

It is never long enough with a pet-no matter how many years. The love and happiness you both enjoyed will last forever...
Can confirm, I've had a beagle live to sixteen and a pibby mix live to around fourteen, and both didn't live long enough. My chi is nine pushing ten and I'll never have enough time with her either.

@@isiriscasiano3719 I’m sorry to hear that. Did the vet give you any explanation as to why your dog developed Cushings? We’re not sure how or why our chihuahua ended up with it.

Seems he had a lot of energy and love to share, even for an aged chihuahua. I love the footage of them together, especially the bit where they're all resting next to one another and the one where he give Todd the kiss on the nose @ 2:35 🙏
My son just lost his 17 year old chihuahua, Frank. We knew that it would be so hard to let a vet put him to sleep, so we were thankful when he passed in his sleep. Frank wasn't just a pet, he was a friend. Thank you so much for taking care of Shorty. It will come back to you in good luck and good health for the rest of your life. Your mother sounds like a kind hearted person, too. Thanks for posting, it made me happy to watch you and your loving pets.
I'm sorry that you lost Frank. I would thank the heavens if my dog passes in his sleep when his time on Earth is done. I've had to have a dog euthanized out of mercy and the pain of that is almost indescribable to me. 17 years is a long life for a dog. I know that you guys loved Frank and provided for him. 👍
❤
My Jesse James was with me 19 years.
He was blind his last three.
He was always laying against me.
He was solid white with black around his eyes like a racoon.
He was *FAMILY*
❤❤
I feel for you so much..I hope your freak and my Juliet are playing together. My whole family and I are grieving , she went a few days ago, she was 15-16. We didn’t except her to go so suddenly. I miss her each day and you really aren’t alone ❤️🩹
She gave this dog a second chance and let him live a happy, healthier life when he probably felt he'd never have another person care for him. A big thank you to her for giving him that love!
You gave an old, sad, ‘unwanted’ dog three amazing years.
You are a beautiful person.
That is beyond wonderful, it’s admirable and made all the difference to one dog soul.
3 years was worth a life time for that little dog...you did good...
Hey, it's too early in the morning for me to be in tears. I'm sure he appreciated every moment of kindness you extended to him.
Yeah, I'm running like a water fountain and snotting like a Nickelodeon slime episode. I can't help it. I love animals and I love people who do what they can for them.

It´s never to early for the right emotions. Don´t fell sad about Shorty just let happy tears roll down your cheeks, by knowing that he got the best at the end. Being able to walk/run and play again on his on to the fullest and be loved all the time to the moon and back by a caring human being.
Thank you for loving him so much. He is smiling from heaven and saying thank you. God bless you.
I bet those 3 years were the best years of Shorty's life.
Hope so ❤️❤️
You made SHORTY whole, like he never was. You made him happy. Perfect. That was your mission, Shorty's mom, and you accomplished it so beautifully. He is in Heaven now. ❤
I love that she adopted an old dog and gave him a great second life. He is adorable!
My chihuahua loses his dang mind at mention of any food-related word!! No matter if he's genuinely hungry, or just got done eating a whole meal! He goes nuts! hahahahaaa So cute.
bless your kind heart in loving and caring for shorty to his end...you enriched each others lives you can't put a price on love and commitment to another being whether human or animals..we are all equal...
So sorry. Shorty was so cute. Adopt another old man. You are wonderful
Thank you and thanks to your mom for being wonderful people. Shorty was such a character, so charismatic and gentle. I am glad that he spent precious time with you.
Toad is gorgeous and playful. You taught him well, he can play with small dogs too. Have a great life together.
Thank you GeoBeats!
I knew from all the past tense words it was going to end in tears. She and Shorty were the best things to happen to each other.
I’m glad he got to spend the rest of his years happy again! Good on you for adopting old dogs. They need love still too.
If Shorty's Mom is reading this, I'm so sorry for your loss. Shorty had the best wonderful life with you! I adopted a senior dog she is 13 I treasure every day she has left.
Those 3 years were probably the most active of his life. You did well by that pup. Good job.
Shorty's last 3 years were some of his best years. I'm sure Shorty is grateful for the love and support you gave him. ❤
You are a wonderful pet mama !
Dogs give us true unconditional love ….. they don’t put restrictions of loving us ….. they just love with all their heart .
From the bottom of my heart and soul, THANK YOU so very much for giving precious Shorty, 3 very loving and happy years!!!💕💕 You are so kind and compassionate!!🥺🤍🖤💕💕🥰
I'm so glad you and Shorty found each other. You gave him such a wonderful life. ❤️
Didn't see that ending coming. Sniff. Bless your heart lady. You gave Shorty a longer, way happier life than he would have had, and you gave him a brother. Toad's beautiful too! Best of luck to you! ♥️🐾🐾
The *Sniff* you wrote😭 🥰
The beautiful part of this story, is that the last years of Shorty, were spend in joy and happiness, thanks to you. 😊👏
I’m so glad you gave him a better life! He looks so much happier.
You had him 3 beautiful years....God bless you!
I can imagine Shorty finding the lady that originally had him and telling her all about how this lady took such great care of him in his last few years
yes, she should get credit for raising such a lovely soul. It's like Shorty got her again, in a younger form. God for her.
I have a chihuahua and my heart broke when I saw this poor creature's conditions. Thank you so much for giving him his best life
I'm sorry for your loss.
Reminds me of my old man. I had him for 3 years, but those were the best 3 years of my life ❤
You made his last years so special. He's looking down on you now and sending cuddles from the great beyond. ❤
You gave him the best years he could have ever imagined. Really touching story from a fellow animal lover. Great, great work!
God bless you for what you did for that dear little dog. You gave him a good home & love & attention that he needed in his last years. I know it hurts to lose him, I too, have been there, but know that you meant as much to him as he meant to you. Keep strong, lovely heart. ❤️🙏
You made his life wonderful even if it was just 3 years. He left this world happy. You loved him, you cared for him & you played with him, something he probably hadn't done for years. 🙏❤👏👏👏
Shorty was beautiful and you should be proud that for the last three years of his life you made him well, slim and happy x
Aw, Shorty ❤️ and Toad ! So sorry for your loss. 3 years isn’t long enough but how wonderful you all got to be together for a little while and now have a lifetime of memories❤️
Be proud that you gave Shorty a wonderful life for the last three years.
I can't imagine how her heart broke when he passed.
That ending, my heart...my gosh.
She is an angel, and like most comments here. I can only agree. She is an angel for transforming him and giving him a 2nd chance at life
OMG what a transformation! You my dear, gave this precious ol man LIFE!! What a blessed gift you gave him and he in turn blessed your life.3 years goes by quick I know but that was 3 glorious years for you both and I'm so happy for you! God bless you ! You are the kind of human I wish we all were.
Your love for Shorty and Toad is amazing. You gave Shorty a good 3 years when he needed you most. Sorry you lost him so soon.
Thank you for giving him the best three years of his life❣️
What an incredible young lady ! 🏆
Kindness, compassion and love…just what Shorty needed. You’re an awesome person for doing that! And I’m guessing you’ll probably do it again.
I am so sorry for your loss of Shorty, may you find comfort in the memories he left with you and within the knowledge that you gave him the best 3 years of his life
You gave him 3 wonderful years!! ❤❤❤ you were his angel...
Wow! You are amazing!
