Queen were fans of Free back in the day. I reckon this is why BM & RT approached Rodgers to perform a mix of Queen & Free/Bad co songs. Marc Martel is an incredible Freddie mimic. But having listened to Paul Rodgers for 50 years, he remains amongst the best rock/soul singers ever

Admittedly, I am a huge Paul Rodgers fan. He's one of my greatest influences as a singer. I liked his time with Queen not because he was a replacement for Freddie, but because he brought his own character to the songs. When he was on stage it was clear by the way Brian and Rodger reacted that they were all equals, true peers with great mutual respect and admiration for each other. With Adam it never comes across the same way, it's the two legends with this immensely talented youngster, but it comes off as much more of trying to replicate the flamboyant element Freddie brought to the band. Rather than it being its own thing it comes across almost as a cover band. While there is no doubt Adam has the vocal chops to tackle any song in the catalogue, the time with Paul was a cool few years where they had something different, and it was good.

Had a chance to see him in his band Bad Company. Sharing a stage with Styx and Billy Squire in 2001.
Paul just has that ache in his vocals. Tommy Shaw from Styx said Paul can go on stage and sing without any practice beforehand...

You did a great job breaking the performance down Jen, as you always do. I really enjoy learning new things and always learn something new from you in each video. You rock lady! Rodgers is great. And Freddie, sadly, never had a chance to perform this song live. He sang it only in the studio and nailed it from the first take (as the legend goes). So there's no point in comparing those two legendary but very individual singers.

Ken Tamplin, the American vox coach has Paul Rodgers as one if the best two rock singers of all time - even better than Freddie.
You ask "who doesn't like Queen" - but it seems to me that Queen were just do lucky to get to play songs like Alright Now and Rock an Roll Fantasy behind the great Paul Rodgers!

Good vocal breakdown, any aspiring singers should get into PR, there is a reason every singing teacher gushes over the guy. For a masterclass in vocal techniques and performance, just watch Paul Rogers do anything, he wrote the manual on Rock and Blues singing, great move by Queen bringing him into the band, he was never going to try and be Freddy, just perform the set and entertain.

Thank you Jenn for posting this interesting video ! As a old time rocker back in the day I've I have seen Paul Rodgers many times when he toured in Canada with the bands "Free" and "Bad Company " ! He was the ultimate rocker with powerful vocals and great stage performances ! I knew he had toured with Queen for awhile but didn't really follow him anymore ! I enjoyed this performance and he did a capable job but didn't really hit me with the same emotions I used to have ! He is English and was so famous back then in the 70s and 80s ! His voice definitely has lost a lot over the years but he can still deliver a great performance ! Thank you Jenn for bringing my youth back ! By the way Paul is Canadian now lol ! Married a Canadian girl awhile back ! My favourite band is one of your national treasures "The Beatles " ! Now that was an exciting time to be !! Keep posting Jenn and thanks again ! Hope you're having a fabulous weekend ! 🤗👍🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦❤️❤️❤️❤️

Lost a lot? I have seen him about 20 times between 1993 and 2018 and I'm amazed that he still sings everything in the original keys and has such great vocal ability. He sounded better in his 60's than he did in his 40's. Really the only singer left from that era that sounds as good as he did back in the 70's.

I saw Queen with Paul live. Good show barring Roger killing the crowd with a worthy acoustic song. I never felt Paul really worked as their singer though. His best performances were singing tracks from Free and Bad Company's back catalogue. Plus he vanished from stage for about an hour. I was perfectly happy with Brian singing lead for Queen.
