  • Bad Company frontman Paul Rodgers is one of rock music's most notable voices, and he's out with a new solo album, "Midnight Rose." For the first time, Rodgers talks with CBS News' Anthony Mason about his recovery from multiple strokes and the major surgery that made the record possible.

He is just an amazing singer and so pleased he’s back and doing well. Very few if any lead vocalists from his era can still do it but The Voice has thankfully still got it.

In the 90s I saw his solo act two nights in a row at Caravan of Dreams in Fort Worth, TX. One night was Muddy Water Blues, the next was all Jimi Hendrix covers. Both shows were standing room only, yet if you get in on time you get a table and a server, that place was fantastic. Since I wanted in early, we got in line well before the venue opened. Others caught on and soon the line was going around the block. Paul came out and walked down the line, shaking everyone's hands and saying "Thank you for being here". As you said, he's a true class act, and also as you said I've never seen him without a giant smile on his face.

I didn’t know anything about this and I don’t mind admitting I shed a tear or two listening to Paul’s chilling experience. Paul Rodgers, along with Free, has played a huge part in my love of rock music as the greatest, most melodic (and my favourite) vocalist bar none. I’ve been very, very lucky to have seen him live a few times, the most emotional gig being on the Free Spirit tour here in the UK in Portsmouth…absolutely superb!! I send my sincerest best wishes and love to both Paul and Cynthia ❤️

Paul Rodgers is my favorite singer. My mother had this same surgery ironically. But time marches on and we all get old and can't do things we used to do. He has done plenty of great singing and shows in his life so he has to feel good about that.

I'm happy for him and his family that he's recovered. His is one of the voices that I associate with growing up and one of the greatest voices in Rock 'N' Roll. I'm looking forward to hearing the new album. It'll have that much more resonance knowing what he went through to make it.

Paul Rodgers is one of the physically fittest people in rock, so this is a shock. Just glad he's made such a great recovery. He and his wife seem really nice people too. Was just playing Cut Loose on here when this video came up. PR's voice is wonderful, ageless.

My all time favorite rock singer since All Right Now in 1970! I’ve see him a number of times through the years, the last being in New Jersey a few year ago,he must’ve gotten sick right after. I’m so grateful he’s ok and what great love he and his wife have. Thank you for bringing this story to us!
