    Nobody calls the the BRZ/FRS a boat and they're 2 or 3 hundred pounds more. Decent engine in these too, tons of aftermarket, 2.5l swappable.

    I love my 2008 NC. Best car I have ever owned.

  • @nottherealaaron
    @nottherealaaron Год назад +12

    On scales, the MSM is heavier than a soft top NC and the NB2 is only about 50-75lb lighter. And the ND2 is wider. The bloat of these cars is exaggerated, but it makes for great memes.
    This is the performance sweet spot of the Miata generations at the moment. Crossed shopped with the ND1 and I’m forever grateful I went NC3 Club.

  • @joneshank1

    You keep disrespecting the nc1 like it was a piece of ... but it still can be fixed with a few bucks, Let's not kid ourselves, its a money pit. but I love it anyway! chassis braces $800. fab 9 tune $250. skunk2 alpha header $400. AEM cold air intake, Moreoso overflow tank and steering pump. olins .

      I thought the same watching this lol. Nothing wrong with an NC1, I think a lot of the issues are exaggerated. Mines at 118,000 miles and has had no major issues. It has always got me home without fail and been a blast to drive. Looks are subjective but I prefer the more classic understated look of NC1 to the overdone smiley face of NC2/3.

    • @ochayethegnu2915
      @ochayethegnu2915 6 месяцев назад

      Exactly. The only significant difference is a slightly higher rev limit. Everything else is fixed by the same mods that are routinely done to all NCs.

  • @oldatarigamer
    @oldatarigamer Год назад +23

    The "hate" on the NC was driven from the fact hat it was a pretty big change from the NA/NB (which were essentially the same car). The NC was a fresh sheet of paper design, so Miata enthusiasts didn't like seeing their precious NA or NB get passed by a superior Miata, the NC. The NC was slightly bigger, slightly heavier so that was where the attacks were focused. But the reality is the car was a 8X Car and Driver Top 10, which is more than any other generation. Glad to see the car getting its due.

    • @LateNightCable
      @LateNightCable Год назад

      The NC is not superior to the NA and NB in any way that matters for a Miata. The reason enthusiasts didn’t like it is because it strayed from the focus and made too many concessions to comfort and civility. It catered to a different crowd, which is why most are automatic. And that’s exactly why the NC formula was dumped by Mazda when the ND appeared, which was more of a return to the previous recipe.
      The NA and NB by the way are very much related obviously, but not “essentially the same car”, and are still the most loved and supported generations. And the NC is still a big bastard for a Miata.

    • @eventhorizonperformance
      @eventhorizonperformance 8 месяцев назад +2

      @@LateNightCable I've owned, daily driven, and raced all generations. NC is the superior car to an NA/NB. Full multi-link rear (which is what the ND uses as well), significantly more power from the 2.0L MZR, a bit more room inside from bigger/taller guys/gals. Let's be honest, a base model NC with a soft top is barely heavier than a NB2. Most of the hate comes from the PRHT model which adds an additional 70lbs or so. Put a set of coilovers and a decent wheel/tire combo and an NC will dominate an NA/NB with similar mods & driver skill. It's not even a contest. The NC is absolutely superior from a performance prospective and is just as fun to drive as the earlier models.
      All that being said, I understand where you coming from, and I do always have a special place for the NA/NB since they were so raw and simple. I love all the generations, but the hate the NC gets is mostly unwarranted and usually from people that have bought the narrative and never driven or experienced one. They are excellent cars. They are not that heavy. And they do feel like a Miata, with a bit more refinement.

    I’m 18 and got my second car which is an 08 nc, same color as yours but with the retractable hardtop. After driving an 06 Acura TL throughout high school and it also being automatic, the transition is absolutely crazy. I had a week long break for college and got to visit home and finally drive it. Took about the entire week to learn manual but by the end of it I was able to take it into the hills with my dad. We installed sway bars, new shocks/springs, lowered it, new exhaust, and pf01 rims and man.. the smile on my face when I drive it is the best. Looking forward to take it back with me to LA next year.

I never understood why it wasn’t more liked….with the bulging wheel fenders, I always thought it made it look more aggressive. I even thought the interior looked really simple but almost with a European flare. Your car looks awesome. It looks so mischievous with that lowered suspension, going around corners.
