That little yellow box is truly a 60s/70s style fuzz since it makes the guitar quieter 😂 Side note: Alos, yellow was the only one of the three that sounded like real fuzz to me.
The little yellow one sounds like it's being starved of voltage like a dying battery. It probably has built in sag, you should open it up and see if there are any potentiometers inside for adjustment. Or you could try to run it on 18 volts instead of 9.
My thoughts also. I thought the yellow thing sounded like a bit like a Maestro. Interestingly, the original Maestro only ran on 3 volts , 2 x AA batteries (1.5 volts each battery) .
The Azor sounds like a true fuzz ... the trinote to me sounds more like a distortion pedal that could be borderline doom/sludge pedal. Nice job as always Ryan !!
I have a Nux HG-6 distortion, it is a Twinone P fuzz, literally. I don’t know who stole the schematic from whom, but these pedals are absolutely identical, except for the name. One is fuzz, the other one is distortion
One jumper on an OD and you got a fuzz.. SD1-DS1 2 minute mod.. Also.. If you open it up and look for blue trim pots.. NPN or PNP or both.. You can Bias all the fuzz back in or right out on the red or blue one.
The little yellow one has an early Maestro FZ-1 vibe to it although ridiculously quiet ! That & the middle one are decent enough for the money but if I was a kid that saved up and just spent $27 (about £25?,I'm English) on the "Aural Dream" ,I'd be gutted tbh.
Great video. He's having so much fun discovering the sounds on the Twinote! Convinced me. I got one for $28. Great pedal. Lots of tonal variety. Massive sustain. Slight downside: Even at minimum gain setting it's still pretty overdriven. You're not going to get any actual clean boost …. but you wouldn't really expect that on this type of pedal anyway.
The yellow one is fuzz, the red one is distortion and the blue one is possibly overdrive. If you like the yellow one then I'd recommend saving your pennies for a little while and shelling out $99 USD on a JHS 3 Series fuzz unit. It has a bias knob on it that can control and improve that sputtery break-up sound you hear on the Azor.
This is exactly the comment I was looking for. I just ordered the yellow one loving the tone but wondering what more expensive fuzz pedal I'd end up replacing it with in a couple of months. Thank you.
I heard the yellow one and loved it. The fact that it only has 2 knobs sealed the deal. I like less knobs. That's why I play an old Silvertone from the 50s 😆
I don't know... I like the Twinote, but it almost just sounds like a distortion pedal to me. The azor has a really awesome, actual fuzz sound. I'd probably get them both for very different reasons and purposes.
The twin note is High gain distortion marketed like a fuzz. Same as Nuix High Gain pedal. I used fuzz in a band setting to little avail only to find high gain distortion as more useable.
I actually really like the Twinote Pie Fuzz, plenty of control over the sound output and live the huge amount of sustain it seems to have, especially for $17 it’s a bargain and does the job I would expect a cheap pedal to do and more. Twinote is made by NUX, NU-X whatever you wanna call them. Cheers for the review Ryan.
I like your Mustang mod with the gold paint and the stars. I just bought a new Surf Green Bullet Mustang after seeing your older previous review. Now I'm looking at pedals :) Love your reviews :)
The blue one sounds like a Muff clone, the red one sounds more like a boss super distortion, and the yellow one is probably a fuzz face clone, hence the low output.
17 dollars maybe a good price but it doesnt sound like fuzz at all sounds like good distortion pedals the azor is the best sounding for fuzz it maybe volume is low but good fuzz pedals do have that volume drop ...use the azor before a clean boost it breaks up like the dallas arbitor kind of like jimmy hendrix ...jmo...an is smoother not so gain stacked ...more musical to my ears
I liked that yellow one , kinda like an approximation of a Maestro FZ-1 . Btw no volume drop on my fuzz. Williams Audio MkI Vintage Tone, Made in England 👌

Have the TwiNote Pi Fuzz and I dig it. Definitely Muff type, being mostly distortion and only kinda fuzz. Had the Aural Dream and I could not get a single fuzz sound out of it. It was an OD pedal, so I sent it back. Have the three knob grey fuzz from Azor. It’s definitely the fuzziest version of a Big Muff; doesn’t have the same articulation as the Pi Fuzz.
The twin note is very interesting, with the scoop down it sounds very much like a classic Muff, but when you dime the scoop it turns into more of a distortion pedal than a fuzz, very versatile.
The Twinote is not a fuzz pedal. Is a NUX HG-6 High Gain, is the same pedal in a different brand. Twinote belongs to NUX. These pedals are clones of the famous Catalinbread Sabbra Cadabra.
The Twinote Fuzz is a re-branded Nux HG-6 High Gain Distortion ..it was left in the same red and the graphics for the knobs and the in and out jacks were left the same too. the scoop is the first give-away that caught my eye.
The pie was always sorta scooped. Velcro would be all but level dimed. The blue into the yellow might have done what the red does alone or maybe the other way to get some boosted fuzz.. Ugh yeah. Blue ruined the party every time. Funny how little yellow played well with that red. Which I've put on order now
Found a twinote fuzz in a local Exchange store for $30. I bought it never having seen this video. I thought the pedal had to be at least $50 or more and I got an ok deal. Little did I know the pedal was originally going for $17 :(. Amazing pedal though, it's a keeper in my rig.
I'm interested in the yellow fuzz. And Yellow + Red combo sounded good to me. The red pedal seemed to give more control while it was still keeping the 60's tone from the yellow one.
I really like the TC Elctronic Rusty Fuzz (which you reviewed a while back.). Just been reviewing a new one from a local uk builder (Under Fluked) called the FuZR which is superb.
Sounds wise I’m digging the yellow. I like metal but I mostly play other stuff. The red one seems like a death metal pedal. I’d like to know about a cheap blues fuzz pedal
That 9v adapter doesn't mean it won't take a 9v inside. Just FYI and that yellow one seems to have an issue. I've never seen one with that low of an output.
I disagree about the azor. Yes it's a little low in volume, but besides having a great tone, especially for $20, you can put the fuzz at it's lowest distortion setting and if you lower your volume on the guitar you can actually get a warm tube like sound even with a digital amp. This setting can even be used for jazz, believe it or not.
Iv'e got the Azor fuzz , but it's a different color and it has a lighted fuzz dial in the middle. I think it was $22 and it's got a bigger output than yours. Maybe they upgraded it?
@@60CycleHumcast To be honest I have no clue , I'm color blind. But if I had to take a guess it's a gray color. It definitely has a higher output than yours and makes a big difference! I'm pretty impressed with it for what it costs. I've got a few , Azor , Donner and Joyo pedals and for the price these pedals have a big sound and deliver a good metal crunch. A great bargain for all being under $40!! Even my donner wah/vowel pedal and blues pedal sound pretty good...Ps it's called the Azor AP-303 Fuzz mini.
If you look up the yellow pedal where it offers color options they all come with a center knob for a few more buck. I think the yellow one is the older model
Daisy chaining Fuzz pedals is a good idea? If there is a buffer in the output the input impedance of the successor is messed up. I am not convinced this is a proper test.
Ryan, I had that same Azor fuzz and thought exactly the same thing - cool sound but wimpy output. But Azor used to make a different fuzz. It was silver with 3 knobs. It was a Big Muff clone with a much higher output. I kept that one and still use it often. Sadly, it looks like it's not available on Amazon anymore. But if you can find one, check it out. I also have an Azor analog delay that's pretty cool for a $20 pedal.

They also do a Pro Co Turbo Rat clone called black teeth but they had sold out of that at the time in the store where I bought it here in the U.K. At the same time I also went mad & bought the Plasma Pedal From Gamechanger! The "Purely Fuzz" is running a Rat Style Tone control on an Overdrive/Distortion. There's just not enough of the higher harmonics to push through the filter, which probably doesn't have a limiter resistor following it. If this was something with a lot more push to it (Purely Transistor distortion instead of clipping for example) It might be okay? I know There's fuzzes that use that style of tone control that have been used for Tracks like Time Is Running Out - Muse and Right Where It Belongs - NIN and they have a ridiculous amount of signal in the highs for the tone control to work.
Was hoping to see some guitar volume knob clean up to see how well they do, especially since that's what is generally looked for. That red one sounded huge and I would've loved to see if it could get cleaned up glassy tones. Great video though. Might have to check out that red one.
The yellow one was the only fuzz pedal. Shame about he volume. The red one was more like a metal distortion and the blue was very cheap sounding tube screamer
Despite the lower output i think the yellow one sounded the best as a true fuzz box. The red one sounded like a bad distortion pedal more than true fuzz. I agree the blue one was less than impressive across the board. Thanks for the comparison!
I sure, the purely fuzz shouldn't sound like that. When I made my first pedal (eqd hizumitas clone), it didn't turn out very well, and it sounded like there was a clean signal in the sound.
