This is one of the best videos about the PSP I watchet and the recommended games are not the ones everyone recommends which I like.

The pacing and replayability is the best of the series imo. The first 3 games are great but exhausting.
I don't really wanna check 50 facade doors per area again. 1 run was enough for me for each classic title, whereas I look forward to seeing what Raw Shock and character variants I'll get on my 4th shattered memories run.

I got one for about the price of a fancy cup of coffee last year - most of the titles I’ve been churning through are long-ass rpgs so it’s a pretty strong value proposition. There’s a small irritation when updating where early firmwares don’t recognize memory cards over a minuscule size and updates to get that recognition require a memory card small enough that you might not still have one laying around. Definitely some unique titles though- stuff like Patchwork heroes and Yuusha 30 stick out as relics of a more permissive time in industry.

We played WTF in high school too. Compared to a WarioWare, it's a very social experience. Also in 2005, no one had iPhones, so WTF turned the PSP into even more of a smart device than before with its unlockable Tools. We actually used the ramen timer for cooking ramen at sleepovers. Nowadays I would just tell siri to set a timer, but back then the PSP was the only device I had to do such a thing!
You named most of my favorite PSP games here. People tend to forget it was also the last generation with a strong rental market. PSP was also so easy to hack even back then. I was charging five bucks to hack my friends PSPs at school. Then we could go to blockbuster, rent games, dump them, and return them for a full refund. Prior to that, I did legitimately rent a lot of PSP games though.
A lot of PSP games were best as rentals. It's how I found my favorite game of all time, Final Fantasy Tactics.
Seeing your peace walker resuscitation footage, having forgotten that part of the game, one could easily draw a comparison to Death Stranding. Those ghosts returning to their bodies are strangely similar to BTs.
A few other games that are to your standard of obscurity:
    - Kenka Banchou
    - Brandish: Dark Revenant

Ah the PSP. Many fond memories. I was pretty hardcore into the CFW scene back in the day, I would charge other kids money to hack theirs in middle school. Also the first console I ever repaired all by myself. I ended up smashing the LCD in my 1000 model, found a cheap replacement on ebay and did a swap. I was so proud of that.
Upgraded from a 1000 to a PSP Go in Christmas of '09. 16GB of internal storage was a godsend compared to the zero on board storage of the original models. By that point all of my UMD shells had cracked so going all digital with the Go didnt really matter to me.
In terms of games, too many amazing titles to count. I put countless hours into Burnout Legends, DBZ Tenkaichi Tag Team, Ratchet and Clank Size Matters, the GOW games, the GTA games, the Ape Escape remake, Sonic Rivals 1 & 2, the list goes on. Also, Ape Escape Academy is slept on. It's WarioWare with Ape Escape characters!
Access to movies and other media was also awesome on the PSP. I only had a few UMD movies (Tomb Raider and Adam Sandlers The Longest Yard) but as soon as I found a website that hosted download links for MP4 formatted movies and tv shows my life was changed. PSP was my go to MP3 player in the age of the iPod. Had all of my edgy middle school music on one dedicated memory stick. Since the PSP didnt have a built in camera, my photo gallery was 100% Google Images downloads of cool Dragon Ball Z characters or swimsuit models. I was an early teen, leave me alone.
Fun fact about me as a content creator, one of the first videos I'd ever published to YT was a guide on how to install Daedelus 64 to a hacked PSP. Could run Ocarina of Time at about 40% speed but to me it was mindblowing. Probably around 2007 or 2008. Video is still public, but so burried on YT that it's impossible to find these days.
So many fond memories. Amazing video as always dude. Top notch 👌

Ive got a Yellow 3000. This would be my 4th in my liftime. The first one I ever got was a refurbished 1000 in 2009. It changed my deal forever. All I would play was on my old Nintendo DS. This was a step up
I would rip movies on my windows computer. Me and my friends would trade movies at school for this. We also would trade UMDs for a few months and enjoy games we couldnt afford.
I then got a Vita, which wasnt as fun tbfh, I loved it but it just shut down a month after I got the Vita. Which made me a bit upset.
Anyways, I carry around this Yellow 3K around a lot. I work and go to school. It has a large library of PSP/N64 games and movies on it to this day. Anime, movies, games, music. It beats using my phone and running that battery down lol.
I always disliked emulating PSP unless you got something serious. I always ran into issues with emulation on my different stuff. Its cool, but no where near native hardware. Its the reason why some rather just keep the console around and have a authentic experience. I do have a emulation machine made out of a PC stick, a Xbox One S, Xbox 360, PS2, PC, PS4.
My boyfriend has a switch lite (and Xbox One) and while I would love one of those. I would be happier with a Retroid pocket 3 or something like that.
Overall the PSP is my little work horse. Keeps me from having to fight with battery levels on my phone, also does what I want and keeps the storage free on my phone.

I have 2 hacked PSVitas (hacked & unhacked) and 2 Vita TVs (hacked & unhacked) and I usually just play PSP games on an emulator, but I still keep my PSP around because my consoles have a lot of emotional value to me.
    1:33 - Same.
3:27 - God I hated the memory cards. I shelled out a ton just to get the largest card I could get because some games had intolerable loading times unless installed on UMD. Was revlieved once microSD card adapters came out (though I was probably emulating at that point).
4:10 - Never really had a problem with UMDs, but I took care of my games fairly okay.
21:57 - I remember finding out about this from a Game Trailers review of all places. Played the PC versions despite buying the PSP version, but for some reason, it would always default to "modern graphics" mode for reasons I don't understand. The "modern graphics" always seemed pretty antithetical to the sorts of games HMH was poking fun at. My favourite part is how high quality the rocking soundtrack and unlockable artwork is to how the game actually looks, GT pointed this out. I looked it up, and GT gave it an 8.7, which is really shocking to me considering how these days most critics would probably give it a 6 or something.
1:16:42 - Think I also heard about this from a Game Trailers review and the concept of playing the bad guy intrigued me. Never played too much, but I remember getting filtered by its ecosystem system. Wish the VR game was playable outside the PS4 VR, because I can't justify buying a PSVR for maybe 2-3 exclusives, especially since the PSVR2 isn't backwards compatible.

Last Guardian, Danganronpa, etc. Badman VR, FFXV Fising VR and Rez/Tetris Effect were great.

@@HikikomoriMedia I just got to the end of the ps3 vid and now have a new wants list though I already played Linger in Shadows, Datura and Rain shadow of the Colossus and have Toy home digitally to my surprise.
Most of the others are way more expensive physically than expected. Fortunately the infamouse collection is still on the uk psn store with festival of blood.
Linger in shadows and Datura if you look into them will lead you to the "Demo scene". All those hidden names in linger are of groupes of developers. Who held competitions every year all dragging their Amiga hardware to convention centers for weekend events. Impressive stuff.

actually silent hill shattered memories and origins were ported to the ps2 with better graphics, perfomance and you can try emulating it on the pcsx2. I played those games on an original ps2 for the first time and it was a blast.

Silent Hill Origins on PS2 has an issue where it's significantly darker than the PSP version. Personally, I wouldn't recommend it. SHSM is fine anyway you play it.

I normally like his takes, but The 3rd Birthday was character assassination for Aya, Maya, and Maeda, and then effectively killing off the series after numerous director / team changes and no one wanted to work on it. It even changed genres from Hard Sci-fi to... just Cyberpunk Fantasy? The 3rd Birthday is the Metroid: Other M of the PSP.

    • @HikikomoriMedia
      @HikikomoriMedia  5 месяцев назад

I stand by my opinion. 3rd Birthday is one of the most enjoyable games on the system. The story from P.E. II already veered far away from Sena's source material long before 3rd Birthday.
