      Joe Lindsley is an American journalist who has been reporting from Ukraine the entire war. He reports from Lviv, Kyiv and Kharkiv and doesn't engage in American partisan rhetoric. Being in a warzone with unreliable wifi doesn't allow for 40-minute long daily videos and cool graphics. But he still reports daily.
      Another good one is Philip Ittner, also American. A veteran war correspondent who reported from Maidan in 2014 and has also been in Ukraine for much of the war. He and Jake have appeared on each other's channels.
      Both Joe and Philip give a perspective those who have never even been to Ukraine simply cannot have. Worth the watch.

    USSR collapsed once and there were 8x as many nukes. None of those “fell into the hands of warlords” why would we think that’s a realistic scenario today?

    • @GarrFagen-zc3em
      @GarrFagen-zc3em 2 месяца назад

      I think it was a full time job for people in the G.H.W. Bush and Clinton administrations to see that those former USSR nukes were safe. Could that be assured to work out again?
      russia is now akin to a kleptocracy / mafia state.

    • @TheFeldhamster
      @TheFeldhamster 2 месяца назад

      Yeah, and guess why they didn't - because the US pressured these countries to give them up! It wasn't just Ukraine that gave up their nukes. Belarus and (I think) Kasachstan, the two other countries with vast arsenals were pressured into giving up theirs as well.
      This argument is like those people saying "lol, you were all afraid of Y2K, nothing ever happened" when the reason nothing bad happened during Y2K was that in the couple years before, the possibility that something really bad could happen was constantly talked about AND people actually did something about it. If you were an old Cobol or Fortran programmer in the late 90s you could earn a fortune coming back in out of retirement and fixing old systems so the world wouldn't go boom on new years morning 2000.
      All the former USSR states were super poor after the fall. Their militaries often weren't paid for months on end. There was a very real fear someone would sell off nuclear material to terrorist groups (who would make dirty bombs out of it) to put food on the table for their family. Hell, even in Zelenskyy's Servant of the People show government employees not having been paid for months on end because the country is bankrupt is a running gag - because it was real. In 2015! And the 90s were much worse economically. Why do you think corruption is such a big problem in these countries until today? People will do ANYTHING to put food on the table for their families.
      The only former Soviet countries who escaped the corruption fate are the Baltics. They put all their will into getting into the EU and NATO - both of which have strong regulations against corruption that you must implement as a country if you want to join.
      All the other former Soviet countries, like Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, Kasachstan, Armenia, etc, and last but not least ruzzia have massive problems with corruption to this day.

    • @juliyakiyanets
      @juliyakiyanets 2 месяца назад +8

      I guess the argument would be, the nukes in USSR belonged to different newly-independent countries, like Ukraine, and they gave them up in exchange for a promise of a peaceful democratic future. The only nukes left were left in russia. But now, if russia collapses, we don't even know if there are enough reasonable people close to the authorities in all its regions that would be smart enough not to cause havoc. I (and the whole of Ukraine) still believe russia has to be defeated and stop existing in the way it exists today. But we'll see 🤷‍♀️

    • @Mark1024MAK
      @Mark1024MAK 2 месяца назад +5

      @@juliyakiyanetsThe assumption here is that the military will break up, but I think it’s likely that the military would retain control over all nuclear weapons and warheads. The military that are currently in control of these weapons and warheads almost certainly fully understand that using or attempting to use them would result in them having a very short lifespan. Hence I think the risk is small. If there is a breakup or internal civil war, then it is highly likely only conventional weapons would be used if there was any fighting.

      There won't be "another Trump administration". If he gets back in, the US will be a NK-style dictatorship, and there will never be another election. The majority of the population becomes refugees virtually overnight.

      Biden was pushed out, and at that precise moment Trump and MAGA won. Up till then 2024 would have been 2020 with a bigger margin. These next three months are going to be brutal for anyone who cares about America and Ukraine.
      God just throws up his hands, he already gave us the candidate to do the job but idiots ruined it.
