I just unboxed my new TC1 tester today. Charged it until the LED turned green. Dead! No joy.
Searched RUclips for TC1 tester repair, & found your day saving video.
Thank You! Worked like a charm!

You surely made my day ! Thanks for the excellent tip!
I drilled a 3 mm hole in the front side panel, at about the same position as the charging LED hole, but at the far right end side. Then I made the hole to a small horizontal rectangular slot, and glued a miniature slide switch to the inside of the side panel, as a small power on/off switch.

Nice idea, batt life now is longer, we now have a reset, software never gets tired... it lasts for ever... so thanks a lot.

I have same problem. Tester comes alive once in a awhile but then it's dead. The reset fix in this video works sometimes. Battery fully charged.

Worked. Though I have a TC-7h which comes with a connector so you need not to desolder anything. Just disconnect and connect after 10secs. Thanks.

Hey there Mon Ami ..... I am glad I stumbled across your video ... I've been having my tester for 3 years now and it acted up today, it wouldn't turn off and it was frozen in the no part or bad part mode... I knew it needed a reset , but how was the 64,000.00 $$ question .... I searched TC1 tester reset and nothing came up , so I reworded the search and voila you came up , Thanks for the tip on taking the battery out of the circuit , BTW mine had a plug on the end of it .... I joined your channel and rang the bell .....Thanks again..

Thank you for the tip! My tester is otherwise just like your tester but has a connector for the battery on the pcb. So, one can't really say that chinese RD engineer hasn't done anything to mitigate this problem in later revisions.. If this problem will persist I guess I'll take a little bit similar step like chinese engineer and install a nc reed relay or mercury switch.

Or, since you have to open it up and use your soldering iron anyway, solder in a breaker switch which will act as a reset switch next time it happens.

I believe I have the same problem. Screen randomly starts flashing on and off and then it shuts down. I will try cutting a little hole on the side with a dremel and adding a switch.

According to a post on EEV Blog forums ( titled *"TC1 lcr-meter transistor-tester fix"* ), posted by user "zappenduster" on 21st June 2018 the gadget consumes about 0,2 mA in Standby/Power-Off mode. 🤔😉🙄
That means 150 mAh per month (0,2 mA x 24 h x 31 days). So a fully charged battery would be drained after three months of non-use. 🤔😕😞😟😳

My TC1 switches ON but only detects a 5V cell whatever is connected to it (and whatever the pins). I thought that maybe the ZIF socket had its pins oxydated and made the test fail, but I opened the casing, directly soldered some flying leads from the 1-2-3 points on the PCB to some grip-wires and the problem is the same ! If anyone found a fix for this, I'd definitely want to hear from you !

According to a post on EEV Blog forums ( titled *"TC1 lcr-meter transistor-tester fix"* ), originally posted by user "zappenduster" on 21st June 2018, user "indman" replied (1st July 2018) that you should try:
      - either removing the component (marked by DZ1 on the PCB) 6V8A (which is a zener diode).
      - OR removing the 6-pin component V05 (on the PCB it is marked by DZ2). It's full model name is SRV05-4.
If the problem remains, then you have damaged the ATMega324 processor. In that case you're going to have to get a replacement one and a new firmware is necessary. Meaning you'll have to reprogram it. 🤔😕😟
But do read that outlined topic on that forum for more possible ideas on fixing it.

My TC1 has a connector so I don't have to desolder the battery, but this fix doesn't help :( It was working fine one minute, then it said to charge the battery, then the screen stopped coming on altogether. I charge it and the light goes green after a few seconds, but I can no longer get anything on the screen :( I'd hardly used this, it was sitting on standby in case I ever needed it and then died lol

Your problem might have happened from connecting a charged capacitor to the probe leads when you were trying to measure it.
