Life in the Fast Lane, by the Eagles. Tricky and fun. The riff was actually one of Joe Walsh's warm up exercises and the other guys liked it so much they made a song out of it.
Sounds like Slash with sweet child o mine
Great riff. Great song. 👍
Everyone knows this. Glad you do too!
I’m not even joking I opened up the comment section getting ready to say exactly what you said😂
The inside picking on the double stop for the 3rd and 4th notes as well as the maneuvers on the low E always make for a good warm up. Couldn't agree more!
Crazy Train is one of my favorite warm ups. Gets the right hand and left hand synced as well as the timing of the chords then the solo can help get your bends, harmonics, scales and legato fired up.
That's a great one. Another one I've tried using is that early riff from Master of Puppets, whatever it's called (pre-verse?). Anyway, I try to play that lick up and down the neck and on higher strings. Feels kind of awkward but it does help loosen up the fingers.
Ditto Over The Mountain.
Same with me too for me it helps my finger cordanation
same also eruption solo it really gets the fingers warm.
Crazy Train is an excellent warmup. It was my first introduction to Inversions, back when nobody even knew what an Inversion was. It uses all three 2nd through 4th string Inversions, with a freakin' bass pedal note to top it off. That alone is a good warmup. And then the pulloff sequence by itself is a good warmup. But the speed and precision that you have to have to play it right really brings the warmup all together. The opening Riff is a warmup. The descending Inversions (with the pedal bass note) is a warmup. And the 3 string pulloff sequence is a warmup. Plus, it's catchy as hell. It's a great song. So it's hard to ask for a better exercise.
I'm a 32 year on guitar Veteran, and I just love watching your videos. RUclips is great. My life got in the way of my music career and I really don't have any music friends anymore, so watching your videos is the next best thing to talking guitar with old friends. I think you and Paul Davids have the best channels out there. Keep on trucken dude.
Excellent list, I can’t wait to get to work. Also, digging the new look and video vibe. It’s fun to switch it up sometimes!
[Mostly] Legendary Licks That Can Improve Your Technique.
Just A Beaver cough cough
I wanted to say that but Ed Sheeran made this so it still works. Just change "Love Urself" with "F*** Urself"
@@CongealedMilk yes! That series needs another
Episode!
@@bentonchiez i meant justin bieber, i just was making fun of his name?
Didn’t realize I was replying to you. I found that hilarious. But I was replying about the Legendary Licks series
Little Wing has been a great addition to my warmup. Good variety of techniques, played all over the fretboard, making it a great benchmark for how on my game I am for the day.
and Castle made of sand too
Especially the one by SRV, although I obviously like Hendrix’s version more
@@4wardfr3ak23 SRV’s version is far superior imo
@@xealzy944 it’s great, but I find it a little bit off without the lyrics
Repent to Jesus Christ
“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.”
James 1:2-3 NIV

Personally, Seek and Destroy is a blueprint. The song taught me the basics techniques of metal, the types of speeds I’ll be playing, and the scale climbing I’d be doing. Actually, a lot of Kill ‘Em All taught me how to play and I’m still learning.
the first song I learned was seek and destroy, so much fun to play aswell
Kill 'Em all is about the only songs I know. It's all I need to know ;)
I use jump in the fire to warm up
When i started, i decided to just learn all of kill em all. And it was very good for me, it taught me awesome easy and hard techniques, taught me to be precise, clean, and tight.

Dani California by RHCP - There's a funky lead riff Jon plays leading up to the chorus that really taught me not to tense up.
Ghost of a chance by Rush - There's a muted arpeggio that really helped my string skipping and left/right hand cooridination.
Learning Muse songs really propelled me forward as a guitarist. Unnatural Selection and Handler. Also made me very comfortable with improving with harmonics and slides while playing. Very fun.
Some of my fav riffs to play! Thanks for these, Tyler 🤘
Some of my go-to warm-ups has always been ZZ Top’s Just Got Paid, Square Hammer by Ghost and BYOB from System Of A Down, they’re great ways to exercise your fingers and hands since they’re pretty fast tempos as well
You are right. I learned guitar playing collective soul december and STP plush. December taught me picking and cross picking with step downs power chords and the little hum ditty part and plush gave me chords and transitions, strum patterns, palm mute and a whole list of other things.
December was one of the first things I learned when I started!!
Thank you, Tyler. Your passion always shines through!
I bought the spark mini a couple weeks ago. I love it. I use it a little differently. I worked out 4 amps/effects combo's I like to use and saved them over the standard 4 presets. Honestly, I really didn't dig the presets and realized I didn't always want to use the app, so this way I can go right to playing and not screwing around with tones.
This video is great for some much needed practice inspiration, thank you! (Even if there was a lot of ad - gotta get paid!)
Your commitment to continual improvement is evident! It’s great to see you use your platform to inspire others to learn and grow too
I love the way you practice your guitar faces as well especially during the under the bridge riff. Awesome.
Can you do a video on guitar face warmups and practice routines?
Killer as always, Tyler!
Digging the more relaxed feel you have in this video.
Hey oh Snow......it's one of your best practice suggestions ever! Thanks for sharing!!
Cheers
Neon is my go to warm up riff whenever I pick up a guitar, perfect balance of groove and chords that stretch your fingers out. not to mention picking up a guitar, dropping the 6th string to c and then letting loose on that main riff blows peoples minds if they don’t play guitar
People that don’t play guitar don’t care if you can play neon. People that do play care more lol
@@shankrl1 People that don't play guitar are only impressed by basic chords *cough wonderwall cough* and by shredding lol
thank you for including spirit of radio!!! tricky riff but one of my favorites
Just received mine last weekend - bought because of this video and sooo happy I did. So much fun I am recruiting a couple of friends to get one!!
Always nice to see Rush get some love, thank you; but, If I may, the song is actually called, "The Spirit of Radio", and I believe Alex Lifeson used (s) a Phaser, not a Flanger, for the main riff. Have a lovely rest of your week.
Arghh ... Exactly what I needed, fantastic stuff ! I've immediately ordered one ! Thanks so much !
This might be your best ever tutorial video. Thanks!
Through The Fire and Flames was the first song I learned to play. Now I use it as my "go to" warm up song.
Don't sell yourself short, Tyler, you're an excellent player
I totally agree, but I understand there's always more we can learn...🤔😯👍🎶🎸
cant stop from the RHCP, as well as Give it Away, really essential riffs for left hand muting technique for me. Especially the open D string in the can't stop riff is really tricky.
I struggle with rhythm a lot, I'm often early or late on the beat, and a riff that helped me is black dog. Playing along the recording forces you to be exactly on time after that long pause where the vocals happen, you almost have to count 8n your head and not just play by feel
Here's a great trick for locking in your internal tempo: Set the metronome to half the speed you want to play, and let it be "2 and 4." You have to find 1 and 3 on your own. This forces you to groove; you basically make the metronome's pulse into the backbeat snare drum. Start by playing scales to it, and then try some rhythm lines. And don't forget your triplets and shuffle/swing grooves. (You can, of course, program a drum machine with just a snare hit on 2 and 4, also.) Have fun!
Didn't expect u to review this was in searching for this so love it
"the sound of salesmen, of salesmen, of salesmen" ~ Rush. Have been a fan of your channel for many years now. Just bought the spark mini a few days ago. Looking forward to seeing ( and hearing ) what it's like.
Love seeing the spark amps being utilized , been shredding different tones on mine for over a year🤘🏼
How do you feel about the speaker? I've heard people say the speaker is pretty bad but I'm not sure if changing the speaker would be worth it or make much of a difference.
@@MugenHeadNinja the speaker is actually really good at filling out a room despite it being smaller than usual amps. New tones are still being updated. Pretty portable. Also there is a smaller spark amp (mini) now and I bet it’s not bad for it’s price.
One tricky riff that I like as a warm up is everything evil by Coheed and Cambria. Even if you're not into the band, it's a really cool riff that is very addicting to play imo
And she screamed Claudio Oh! Dear Claudio oohh!
Stoked to see another one among the fence in this comment section!
I bought this amp after seeing the video and totally forgot about it until it showed up in the mail months later back in June it July and after having it for a few months I love it not only is it an amazing amp but it works great as a speaker for my PC or even my phone if I want to play music around the house though it doesn't have great Bluetooth range
I really liked the outdoor footage. You should include more of that in your vids :)
Soundgarden- Limo wreck is great for chord switching and use of intricate harmonics. Matt Cameron is a genius in both guitar and of course drums.
My favorite practice is crazy train kinda in the beginning when it hits the famous riff for me it really help with stretching (cause I’m just a kid) and also with speed
Marigold by Periphery
It really makes you stretch and it helps with how well you can move up amd down the fretboard. It also asks for some modulating arpeggios with those stretches.
All New Materials by Periphery
A really good way to practice string skipping and using open strings to reposition your hand up or down the fretboard.
They have some good riffs that make for some great exercises.
The dudes are really good but if your gonna use a song for improving your playing the last thing in the world I would recommend using is a band that uses b standard, 7 strings, or drop c...that's just gonna screw them up more...
love the setup, man!
Wish I could play “just alright” like you brother. Thank you for the great content!
I ordered one this morning! Cannot wait!
Glad under the bridge is on here, currently learning it. You are a true inspiration.👍
Bro! I'm buying a Spark now. Thank you man! It's my first time working out of town and I had to leave my amp behind because of limited space. Like always great video!
The Spark rules. Every guitarist should own one.
I'm a beginner with the regular Spark and love mine, it's so fun to play riffs from all different genres and not have to buy dozens of pedals. I just riff around on it all day while working from home
Love these spark videos
Learning Under the Bridge and Soul to Squeeze by RHCP really helped me play Bar chords while doing some hammer ons and embellishments in between. Both very fun songs once you get it
Under the bridge should definitely be on here, was the first song I learnt definitely helped me a TON
Great Jim Halpert hairstyle and great video as always
The main riffs for battery and hardwired are my favorite riffs for practicing galloping and plus they sound good too.
battery is definitely the riff i always play when i pick up a guitar
This amp is awesome. So small yet killer sound. I'm hooked.
This is an excellent video you should make a series out of it
These are my favorite videos you do. Although the pure comedy ones are a close second.
Thanks so much. It will help me a lot.
Reapers by muse underrated muse song but has a tapping lick and a heavy , catchy chorus riff
Bliss intro lick can be a good sweep picking practice
This is actually pretty cool! It's a great perspective
Thx, all I can say. You're the one and only, Love & Peace from Nürnberg, Bavaria ❤❤❤🎸🎸🎸
Just scrolling...and found your video. Great lesson for beginners- intermediate. Love the PRS. Thanks for showing people you don't need fancy schmancy amps and pedals to make beautiful sounds. You could have pulled it off with a Chinese Strat. Practice, practice and more practice. No quick way to sounding great. I wish people would finally get it. This is coming from a guy who used to tune his guitar with a tuning fork and pieced together his own first electric. You're great! Just noticed other comments in warm up. I stretch my fingers and go to Scuttle Buttin. To each his own.
Awesome video
I'd suggest you insert the "sweet child o' mine" riff. Pretty hard for beginners, but learning it is a great scales practice. Sounds good, feels good.
Bravo for making this ad feel more like a turorial.
FINALLY I learned spirit of radio lol, thankya mucho.
Practice riffs: I always end up playing things like Thunderstruck, Extreme - Suzi or Hole Hearted, random blues f*ckaroundery, Faces- I'm losin you, but I slide into writing my own almost immediately (which screws me on practicing skills lol)
Awesome practice ideas.
I was wondering where the effects were coming from. They really got an app for everything....that's cool, I need to get off my mountain every now and again.
I have an Epiphone Es335 with that same color as your Gretch! Beautiful!!
Fav warm up riffs: symptom of the universe (Black Sabbath), Tush(ZZTop), or surprisingly the Stranger Things theme is a fun fingerpicking exercise.
Im 42 and I've been playing since 12 years old. Recently I learnt comfortably numb, a game changer for me.
Yeah you shouldn't confess that sort of things 😂
@@HeadbangoO why shouldn’t they confess that? It’s a great song
@@HeadbangoO man, talk about projecting insecurity.
@@kaatheconstrictor Who would feel insecure between an oracle, Bruce Willis and a psychiatrist...?
Have you tackled is there anybody out there? Its a good one for fingerpicking. Good bye blue sky as well.
Great video. Love the Star Wars book! ;)
Love the new haircut Tyler!
Excellent vid. The Spark mini is really amazing especially given it’s size…. Finally a mini practice amp that actually sounds good. There’s an old song by Michael Bloomfield called Killing Floor. The lead intro and solo are classic in my opinion. Perhaps you could try that sometime. Keep up the great vids. 👍
Dam you are the MASTER, THE lick you have memorized is impressive, I enjoy ur content, I played all my life, by ear and never seriously, unfortunately l didn't get better,I'm 56 now and learned a lot the last year,ur channel has aided my progression, music is win no doubt .Thanks for all you're doing. Jersey 1%er.
what about
RHCP - Scar Tissue?
and im tempting of buying the positive grid pearl amp.. but idk if it is any good. because im a guitarist and a bassist for over 12 years now and idk if ill like it or not
Scar tissue needs you to detune one of your strings (B if I remember) to be played right. That's per Paul Davids, not me lol
Hey, Seattle!
Lovin' your Emerald City Guitars tee! Mahalos! 🤙🎸
WOW THOSE LIPSTICK TUBES SOUND AWESOME!!
that was sick and I'm getting the amp. yeye perfect for my need
Tornado of souls riff and solo, the riff is a warm up to synchronize your hands, and the solo warms up bending in and out of tune, sweep picking and tremolo picking along with awkward hand positions if you wanna be efficient
awesome video and your haircut reminds of jim halpert from the office usa, love it
I LIKE THE WAY YOU LAID IT OUT. VERY CREATIVE
Love the trim Tyler 💯
Favorite riff of all time to practice is the main riff from one of motley crue's older songs, but i definitely do need to branch out more.
That's a beautiful guitar. The banana color with the PRS inlays is just spectacular, what a tasty little piece.
Wow I've been playing spirit of the radio the way he said not to and i always thought it wasnt quite it. Seeing it the right way rules. Its an easy adjustment
beautiful silver sky!!!
Day Tripper great warm up my fav right now
I just got the spark mini Amp and I absolutely love the f out of it! It's so awesome!!
Let it grow brother! Let it grow!
Come as you are Nirvana, not hard but great picking exercise. Love the video, your song choices sparked an old light in me. thanks again.
“The Trooper”, great pick hand exercise to get “galloping horse” sound.
Love your video's Thanks
Thanks!
One of my favourite Riffs to start my Practice Routine is "Riff Raff" by AC/DC. It's very funny picking all these Notes of the Riff ;)
Just ordered this amp been wanting one of these! Great playing man.
Nice last name😎
@Music Is Win do you have any videos showing overdrive pedals through tube amps vs solid state amps? It seems like a lot of low budget guys get modeling amps but will this ruin their first venture into pedals?
I’ve been playing the opening bass line from Muse’s Hysteria song on my guitar to warm up. I play it normal and then ramp up to thrash metal speed.
Wow, that Gibson ES colour is incredible.
Yeah I definitely have to buy one of these...
I love how you used the Explorer body guitar when playing Creeping Death by Metallica. \m/
Been procrastinating cliffs of Dover for years, I guess I’ll learn it tonight 😂
An interesting video, made even more so by the amusing product placement. Like a modern blockbuster every shot has a crafted product shot. This could be an essay for would be RUclipsrs on product placement.
I have that Gibson Explorer ( Mint ) 1982 ? Great Guitar.
Eventhough its a paid promotion for the amp, I really enjoyed the video. Thank you
emerald city guitars ! cool shirt I just started watching their channel....The guitar players that demo for them are amazing !
