In this episode of TFBTV, @JamesReeves looks at the ultra-compact, cyberpunk-y TP380. The TP380 is a .380 ACP pistol/PCC/SMG introduced by Swiss manufacturer, B&T (Brugger & Thomet) almost 10 years ago. Initially earmarked for the South American civilian market, B&T never obtained an export license for the guns and they sat on B&T's shelves in Thun. However, B&T is planning on introducing the subcompact .380 ACP as a pistol in the US market by the end of 2022 or beginning of 2023. James talks with Karl Brugger personally about the TP380 and gives you his first impressions.
The B&T TP380 is a light, 33 ounce semi-automatic carbine with a 5" threaded barrel using a simple blowback action, and it fires from closed bolt. It uses a dual slider ambi charging handle on top of the lightweight receiver. It uses 15 to 30 round double-stack box magazines, made from translucent polymer, and a folding stock.

I know I'm going to get a lot of questions about this so the fanny pack is the Helikon Tex Bandicoot, and it's one of my favorites for concealed carrying. It has loop on the inside for a holster, and will actually fit the entire TP380 with the stock and the optic and 15 round magazine and still zip shut. amzn.to/3cLqYuz
The smaller Possum is really great as well, although it does not have loop for a holster on the interior.
Thanks daddy
My fellow Florida brothers, do me a solid and ask him if they have ANYTHING in the pipeline in 5.7 - I know you are a fan of that cartridge as well. This mini TP in 5.7 silenced would be a hell of a lot of fun to run thru! Thx James!
So what you're saying is, get both to be safe? Ordered!
@@MarketMakersOfficial I just got and love the PSA 5.7 Rock. A TP57 would be beautiful!
Suppressed 380 is alot of fun I'd buy this one for sure.
I'm not a 380 fan at all but this thing hits all of the PDW buttons and looks light years ahead of the MAC. Shutup and take my money.
@Peter Angles Better trigger, better suppressor offerings, red dot, better brace system are my guesses. Less heavy telescoping bolt design from the 50s and 60s.
I’m primarily collecting PDWs in my collection, and just got a apc9k pro. The TP9 has grown on me- and this is the version with the PDW volume turned up- miniaturizing this design almost. And they have improved over the OG. I will buy one. After I get a station 6

I mean it's B&T so you know that price point is not going to be competitive.
Q: "Can we get a tp9 with a better trigger, more robust charging handle, that can take standard suppressors?" A: "Of course! Here is a 380 Mac11" -- clearly there is a bit of a language barrier...
Hahahaha!!
B&T: Ehhhhh...close enough
I hope they decide to produce butt loads of these. $1000 for a B&T is a good deal even for 380
@Skylar Montgomery and Glocks cost maybe $100 to make
Id definitely buy it at $1000 price point, it'll probably be more like $1800
@Doom basically a 380 that's a full sized pistol instead of a small compact. Should be easy to hold until you get the stamp back for it.
@@kevinsedwards 4 points of contact is one advantage
@@kevinsedwards if you sbr it you get more points of contact, if you suppress it it will be much quieter than comparably sized 9mm pistols and doesn't need a booster, you get a stationary optic for quicker shot to shoot target acquisition, and if you ok with .380 ballistics it'll be much lower recoil. Looks like an overall great "bag gun".
The form factor is perfect! Looking forward to seeing these stateside
@@kevinsedwards B&T made these specifically for the South African civilian market. Fully automatic firearms are prohibited for civilians in South Africa. So no, its intended use isn't as a submachinegun, because it never was a submachinegun. Also this would probably suck ass in full auto if it shoots anywhere near as fast as a mac 11.

Never really been interested in a .380, but this looks cool as hell. Love my other B&T, great quality.
I despise 380. So much weaker than 9mm and ammo about the same price!
.380 has a great use for self defense. Back stop if on target and recoil control. Also the brain doesn't like Hole's in any caliber.
@@adamlewellen5081 this comment sums up exactly why the .380 is a great self defense round....
@@IWillSmurfYou I love the Underwood/Lehigh +p+ xtreme .380 ammo. It brings the .380 up to the level of 9mm (and even outperforms some 9mm rounds)... but at $1.80/rd I would never buy it. You save $1/rd if you load it yourself, but even that's way more expensive than it should be. There's really no reason to charge that much. Just seems like extortion... esp store bought. Like, how can they justify the cost of $1/rd just to load the ammo in a case... let alone $0.80 for each little copper bullet?
That's the best description of B&T I've ever heard, well scene.
That's the most practical gun I've seen in a while.
You must not be looking that often
I kind of agree.
When you see the price it won't be "practical" anymore.

@@STB-jh7odI don’t think price Carrie’s much weight when you’re looking at “practical”. It’s not practical for me, I’m poor, there’s people who have a monthly ammo budget over the cost of this… I’ve certainly helped shoot up over $1k in an hour with a few friends
I have been wondering for a long time why no one makes large capacity plinkers in 380.
Was thinking the same thing out back at the range with my .380. I have a 10 round mag.. Would love something better and bigger in a .380.
I don’t currently have any 380s and haven’t looked in a while. What’s the ammo price look like these days? Been sticking to 9s b/c it’s the only thing I can get in sufficient quantities without breaking the bank for a quality therapy day at the gun range
@@lbwlawyer still a lot more than 9mm at least around me. I can find 9mm for ~$17 a box, same box of .380 is probably ~$25.
Price and capability. Standard 9mm NATO loads blow any .380 out of the water for not a whole lot more recoil as long as you have a locking mechanism in the gun for less money.
380 costs a bit more than 9mm. Also I never find it in stock often in my area.
B&T… we need a 5.7 PDW!!!
💯💯💯💯💯
That was my first thought.
Absolutely!
Have needed for a long time!
Nice to see a gun manufacturer not oversell the crap out of their product. We’ll put it out there and see if it sells is a lot more truthful than “it’s a game changer.”
I love this! The vz61 Skorpion is in .32acp and it’s also highly regarded as a super usable PDW style weapon. This is just a modern version of it with a better caliber and higher quality.
I collect PDWs and I especially like the smaller sizes. My vz61 tax stamp just cleared, and have shot them full auto. I absolutely love it. And I’m really wanting this- unfortunately it’s like $2k and to my knowledge none have been delivered in the US yet. Wonder where the first 500 went.
THANK YOU B&T FOR ALWAYS GOING ABOVE AND BEYOND FOR THE AMERICAN GUN MARKET! This 380 is simply insane! B&T is my fav firearm company now for so many reasons!
Dude. For someone like my mom who doesn't have strength to hold a standard "long gun" because of her health issues, this is honestly a great option. Also for anyone else. Sure it's .380. But being able to to rattle off rounds with no recoil (ok some) is bad ass.
The .380 may work in Europe. But we need bigger calibers here in America. I mean, have you all ever been to Golden Corral?
LMAOOO 😂
There are plenty of soft heads in America so a 380 is fine.

Imagine rocking a stock less one with a single point sling off the end, big oof.

I've known about this gun for years and had just accepted it was vaperware, I'm a bit of a .380 nut so this is so awesome that it's actually getting imported.
.380 is a pretty expensive caliber to be infatuated with. Years and years ago I started dating a woman who carried a G42 and I had recently just moved back to my home state from working out in nebraska for years. Before moving to nebraska I sold all of my guns since I needed the money more than anything. Anyway when I got back to Arizona and started dating her I figured if I got a .380 I could save money on ammo since I could buy ammo for the both of our carry guns in bulk. Well I was 100% ignorant to the price of .380 ammo all my EDC guns before then had been in .40 S&W so I just assumed in my ignorance that .380 ammo would be less than 9mm ammo because it’s smaller. Well I was obviously wrong and quickly learned after buying my Ruger LCP that .380 ammo costs (at the time) just as much as .40 if not more sometimes. I really really loved carrying the LCP because it was about the same size as my iPhone at the time so I could easily pocket carry it in even the most non carry conducive environments or no matter what I was wearing. It didn’t matter if I was wearing basketball shorts out on my morning jog my lcp was in my pocket minding its own business or wearing slacks at church or work none of that was a problem with the LCP, not only because it’s so light and small but also because the pocket holster that comes with the LCP makes the print look like you have something square like a phone in your pocket rather than the obvious print of a firearm. Anyway sorry for the rant lol.
@@Evergreen1400 I reload all my plinking ammo and get defensive ammo at a pretty good discount so it's much cheaper for me to shoot .380 than someone buying it off the shelf.
@@mericaeagle9319. Right on. I ended up transitioning to 9mm for EDC and duty so thankfully I’m not having to pay the crazy .380 prices I was
@@Evergreen1400 yeah dude .380 sucks. 9mm is superior is every way and especially price!!
@@IWillSmurfYou. I agree 9mm is definitely a superior round. Like I said in my 1st comment I use to carry a G22 in .40 S&W but that was before 9mm made its huge comeback so now like most people I carry a 9mm at work and on my personal time.
Brought my ghm9 out last week, holy shit . Like a sewing machine. I need more b&t products asap
GHM9 is fantastic, good buy!
I will personally keep a lookout for when I can purchase a TP380.
I don't have a problem with the .380 ACP cartridge; it was the first caliber I reloaded for when I was an early teenager back in the 80's. Dad had a Walther PPK/S and a single stage RCBS Rock Chucker in the garage (which is still in use to this day).
Back then, having a pistol meant you had a revolver, as autos were not very popular yet. I learned the in's and out's of what the PPK/S needed, and loaded/shot 1000's of rounds of cast lead RN 95gr bullets with a pound of Unique and case of Winchester SPP (which cost $7.50 back then). I only bought loaded ammo now and then with my meager allowance just to shoot it and get fresh brass. Today, you only have to go online and get a 1000 empties cheap and delivered to your door.
I still have a sweet spot for the .380 ACP, and would love to get a TP380. Modern polymer coated cast truncated bullets of 90gr I have exceeding 1100fps out of my Glock 42 (I wish Glock would make a long slide G42) with various powders but haven't played around with reloading .380 for a while due to obvious reasons.
TLDR: reload .380 and it's cheap. Be a man and build something- like an ammo stockpile- by learning to reload! It's fun and educational.
380 is such a underrated cartridge for suppression.
This ones giving me some SERIOUS VZ .61 Skorpion vibes. Match this up with an 84 Cheetah and you're GOLDEN 😌👌🏼
The cheetah is great but follow me here. The tp380 with flush fit mag holds nearly the same amount of ammo, so why not got with a Ruger lcp II max 380, which is tiny but has 12 rounds and sights you can see? Still a big lover of 81 series pistols though
So, what I'm reading is since I have a Beretta 84, I NEED this B&T .380, is that ... you know ... right ? Hmm ... I'm taking this as gospel so I'll be getting the old credit card dusted off and ready. ;)

I would love something like this. The price would need to be competitive for the caliber but combining an accurate platform, with multiple points of contact, high capacity with a serviceable caliber and barrel length and a very size would make it an excellent addition to any collection.

@@sythenalpha2037 yes it would! And I don't know lol and I'm American the laws are so stupid. If it's classified as a pistol I don't think you can have the collapsible stock..? At least federally, state laws tend to be stricter.

To me, I think it should cost half that much. Someone said they always do limited runs though... so they probably could produce them (equal quality) for much cheaper if they mass produced them.

@@alanrogs3990 how many sub guns with stocks can you fit in your pocket? The tp9/uzi design is the only sub gun design that still has it's niche over a rifle caliber pdw. A nice shot you can film is you standing over a mirror and it starts from behind. Pans down ward into the mirror to a under shot. But lots of taint, lots.
I love .380, because it just resonates so well within me:
It's small, underpowered, has quite a poor expansion and penetration...
It also needs some Underwood Xtreme Penetrator Viagra-power to be at least somewhat effective.
Lastly it's also way too overpriced compared to what it should be and how it performs.
Truly a match made in Heaven!
the point is that energy does not kill, and even though it is not recommended to use a hollow point projectile, it is still viable for defense, your view of "contempt" of .380 acp is very different from the capability that the .380 acp has, although the price is not really attractive, but wanting the ammunition to be cheaper just for its performance is something foolish, there are other more important factors that determine the price of an ammunition

I have a Firedragon threaded barrel for my G42 and loaded subsonics (most of my handloads are far hotter in the .380 ACP) without too much problems. Still jams more than I would want, but I don't know how much is due to the Firedragon barrel over OEM or not. I haven't played around with it lately, for obvious reasons- primer shortage and such. Hopefully someday this will all blow over and I can get back to playing around with the combo, but yes, it does have promise. I just haven't done more, and aftermarket parts are virtually nonexistent for the G42 (the redheaded stepchild of Gaston).
Well, I see a pre-allocation for this pistol for 2023. B&T said $1000? Some said add $500 to that? Some said $1800? Try $2815. I hope that doesn't hold, because I am not paying that. The "the for war" thing was a slogan by the company who made the round. Rifle rounds are for war not weak pistols cartridges. Pretty much the only advantage it has is less recoil than 9mm which already doesn't have much to start with.

This thing is pretty cool honestly, I’d buy one if I had money to burn 🤷🏻♂️ lol.
4:20 This .380 seems to have the full package
I think it would have been more impressive in 9mm super carry.
What’s this 9mm super carry you speak of 😂
@@dirteater70 whups, I mean 30 super carry lol
@@MrAlexthemachine DOH!! I HATE when that happens!
Not sure where the end of the line to get one is, but I'm in for a few.
This thing is so dope. Time for a new credit card when this bad boy hits the market 😂 would love to know if the pistol version will include a brace or not.
2:55 Reminds me of me after discovering my first real Czech-made Vz.61 Scorpion with a stock! Like a kid at the candy store!!! 😀
Beautiful gun, there's only one thing it lacks for total perfection: to be in 9mm.
That is why TP9 exists
how to tell everyone that youre clueless without telling everyone your clueless
@@Genesis23OPB they could definitely design a 9mm that is larger than the tp380 yet smaller than the tp9. Hell you could plop a g19 in a chassis right now and have something not much larger B&T even makes one already lol.
@@talltale9760 no they cant, as the tp9 is as compact as they can make it with the rotating barrel. simple blow back for a 9mm in that size obviously doesnt work and if you insist on something small with a stock that uses the browning system: its called the B&T USW.
James has done it again (as usual). I don't have a .380. . . .yet. . . . There goes a stack from my bank account.
4:18 Please, never ever use that camera angle again. I know you were in Europe and they're into some weird shit, but no...just no.
Dude i never realized that B&T is basically a Swiss KelTec
I'd Buy one if price is right like it is, but I'd pay more for removal added iron sights, and a recoil buffer system like they use in other guns. They might need to lengthen the cycle action a bit to get less spring tension at the ejection cycle causing it to have weakened extraction issues and it would solve those feeding issues. The same thing for the magazine, reason for it running 28 rounds, vs 30, is because of its spring being overly compressed, and is shortened recoil spring doesn't give it enough compression run up to get the bolts velocity up enough in time to strip a new round when there's 30 rounds in the magazine... Just like UZI mags are 32 rounds, but you take 2 out, to make it a 30 round mag so it will feed those first few rounds. Same for magazine fatigue, where guns fail on the last round to feed, such as desert eagles often, the bolts velocity is feeding faster than the weakened mag spring can feed it in time. Everything is a balancing act! Everything is about timing! Bruce Lee understood this timing principle, as being too fast, or two slow matters , as it's all about having the right timing to connect with , no matter how strong or powerful you were...
I'm definitely interested in one of these! I hope they can get the necessary adjustments to work within those parameters they created, and if not perhaps lengthen the receiver and recoil spring just a bit , even out the speed of the bolt over its ejection cycle for better performance, and feeding from its magazine issues...as I feel the bolt needs more run way approach better bolt forward velocity to better strip a fully loaded 30 round magazine. The Swiss engineers are some of the best in the world... They shouldn't have any problems, with solving the issues of the gun!
.380 is underrated... its a great caliber.. modern ammunition changes things.
Cute gun. With the can attached it reminds me of the weapon on the original Man From U.N.C.L.E. series. (That was a modified Walther P38 with skeleton stock, extended mag, barrel extension, and - obviously fake - silencer.)
Handy as a backup against a Bigfoot after he knocks your hunting rifle aside if it takes a binary trigger
The under the legs camera shot 😂😂 4:18
4:18 nice shot
I think B&T is becoming my favorite gun manufacturer
James, I appreciate you trying to see if he was open to bundling the aimpoint with it for under 1500.
A man after my own heart.
Never wanted a tp9... But i want this tp380 for some reason
Just found my winter CCW.
Don’t sleep on 380. Best pocket 380 is the ruger lcp Max. 10 and 12rd mags with same size as original lcp. Just better sights. Night sights. And a better trigger. Love my lcp max. 380 isn’t bad
I can only imagine how much fun this is to shoot. It looks like a lot of fun. I hope enough sell that B&T makes it a regular offering. I am certainly interested in it.
