Thanks for doing these less than all-star QBs. As a pats fan I am thankful for you but also love to see QB analysis on people like Mayfield and Z Wilson. Almost more illustrative to see QBs that sometimes get it wrong, and also to show when it wasn't on them if a play goes badly, which can be hard to see when watching the game live. You're the man, JT
Zappes pocket presence and pocket manouverability impresses me considering he hasnt had many starts in the league.
Agreed. That's what makes him stand out, to me, over Mac. Mac is a sitting duck back there. Zappe can at least move and create some time
14:57 I'm sorry, what? Just because mac is trash that doesn't mean the guy who replaces him is instantly Tom Brady. The offense put up 57 total yards in the 2nd half, and zappe should have had 3 picks this game. The offense looked functional because the steelers were atrocious, not because the patriots were good. To actually be competitive, the team needs a QB that isn't on the roster this year.

I'm so thankful for this content. Never have played QB (outside of my backyard), never will. I'm a pats fan though, and there has been so much nonsense from local sports commentators, national broadcasts, sports journalists, and internet comments that it is hard to be objective about Mac/Zappe. It makes it more fun to follow the Pats, and this year I need every scrap of fun I can get. Ditto for the Panthers, another team I follow.

@@pdraggy I'm just thankful I follow the 9ers now. Not really connected to the team for any reason but being a Jimmy G fan from his time in NE, CMC from Carolina, Kittle from before he was drafted, and Tevin Coleman from Atlanta... kinda ended up just being where a lot of guys I like ended up. As long as CMC and kittle are there, I'm a 9ers fan.
Also the Celtics and Bruins being competitive helps. I am terrified of the Miami Heat permanently though.
I love Zeke's awareness in that play. Feed this man. He has a level above players i havent seen in a lot of players and it shows.
It looked like #69 saw it as well as was trying to make a play before quickly getting taken out as well. Kudos there as well.
Interior seam ball to JUJU on slant up the middle for 28 YARDS by Zappe. Thing of beauty. Led him perfectly so he got an extra 15 yards
It took me a day to be able to watch this. Great breakdown, and appreciate the fine details you put into not only the QB analysis, but the players around them.
With Zappe, our receivers actually look great - JUJU, Devante Parker and Hunter Henry all having FUN again and all look like studs now. Hunter Henry catches were exciting to see

Zappe was ass week13. Zappe was all season and preseason hideous game when you went into hiding.
Zappe really shows what a difference a decent QB can make with recievers.

It shocked me when no team claimed him off waivers. The Jets sure could have used him.
I did some independent research on this topic because of how adamant Pats media and fans were that he was cut because "he sucks". There were 26 QBs cut at the end of camp/preseason in the final week of August including Zappe and Malik (also including Grier FWIW from a Pats POV).
Out of that pool of 26 players 13 were immediately re-signed by their team without waiver issues. Out of that pool of 13 remaining 3 signed with new teams immediately. Out of that pool of 10 remaining 2 signed with teams within a week to a month. The remaining 8 cut QBs did not go to a team until after September, or are still teamless.
It would appear to me that the Patriots scouting department and front office, along with 12 other teams, were acutely aware of the needs of the other 31 teams around the league when it came to backup QBs. They took a risk accordingly and it has paid off there really isn't much more to it.
Bill knew what he was doing. He did not want to lose Bailey.
Teams wanted him but he and bill decided he would stay he was only cut to fiddle with the final roster..... a few months later He is the starter just like he said he would be ⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️💨

I would love to see an analysis of Zach Wilson and the Jets this week. How does that offense put together that second half against Houston when they have been hot garbage for weeks.
Zappe is a solid backup. I like him and wouldn't mind him backing up whoever the Patriots give a shot to next year.

#11 and #88 for the Pats are useless and have been all year. Thornton is one of the worst picks the Pats have made in years and there have been plenty of terrible ones on the offensive side of the ball. Geseki has done nothing all year, he's a waste of free agency money. Pharoah Brown should be playing all his snaps IMO. Also, Hunter Henry is a great TE, he's been open all year and not getting the ball. I hope they bring him back for a few more seasons. The real star of this game for me was Mike Onwenu at right tackle. He did an amazing job slowing down Watt, most of the time with no help. Another guy the Pats MUST bring back and pay him what he's worth.

Thorton and when Parker (tries) to play both end up being dominated by the corners half way out of bounds and behind the DBs. Thorton's speed is negated by just bad route running and no physicality..
As a Patriots fan this is bittersweet to me. I'm happy we won and that Bailey did well, but I feel really bad for Mac Jones. Not only has he lost his job but he's been slandered all over the internet. I get if you don't think he's a good QB, that's fine but people are just making crap up about him now like he's a bad leader (Yeah, the guy who showed up before everyone else and left after everyone else) or he was afraid to step into a throw because of fear of getting hit (When he did so many times in his rookie season) I'm really unhappy with how the situation with him went down. I get it's the NFL and there's no such thing as fairness, but I'm very disappointed in not only the fans and the shitty Boston Sports "Media" but also our organization.

I could not agree with you more! BB just scapegoated Mac after Year One and it’s been very hard to watch. I stopped listening to Boston Sports Talk Radio and Patriots Unfiltered because the snark and vitriol against Mac has been horrible. I so appreciate that you feel the same. It feels like a lonely place to still be a Mac fan.
There is a part of me that's been really frustrated with the patriots in that they got JuJu, Hunter Henry, and Zeke and barely used them then came this game is they all took off
I want to see what Zappe can do with more coaching, he's only started a few games now and he seems to be better than Mac for sure.

Zeke is cooked physically, but I do love him as an overall player. Good attitude, plays hard, does the little things well. Unfortunately his legs are just shot. Has no burst or speed left.

Mac will live like Darnold or any other first round qb that didn’t succeed with his first team. He’ll be a career backup or a bridge qb on another bad team
He's a solid back up but the trait that teams want in their back up QBs is mobility. Something Fields excels in so he'll have a market regardless of which young QB the Bears move on to. Maybe he finds a home in a more stacked offense with a saavier play caller.
He'd still would be a big upgrade in NY.
Hunter was wide open many times and zap ignored him for some reason or just didn't see him, but I think that comes from his inexperience.
If he finishes the year strong id love to see the pats take a sam howell type of test year ans give zappe a chance. Get a ton of weapons in the draft (hopefully MJJ) and give it a chance. The league and the fans always love when low draft picks make it big.
No, Zappe is no Sam Howell, he's no Purdy, and he's no Jake Browning lol. Time to move on and get a real QB. This team will not be consistent for the rest of the season the oline will not hold up like they did in first half and Henry is not making epic catches like that every game. The damage is done with Mac and Zappe.

In all fairness, this is a pro level team going against a Mike Tomlin defense.
This is the equivalent of shooting fish in a barrel.
That defense is top ten in the league. And the Pats offense is in the bottom 5. i think you had that reversed. You can see how the Steelers tightened things up in the second half, too. I really think they underestimated Zappe in that first half and it cost them. Plus, Trubisky is a far worse QB than Zappe. He is Mac Jones kind of awful.

Great analysis. I think all of these things can be (and are) true:
•Zappe had a good game.
•Zappe had some terrible throws and got lucky quite often.
•Zappe gave the Patriots the best quarterback performance of the season (outside of Mac’s game against Buffalo).
•Zappe is not consistent enough to be a regular starter in this league.
•Zappe has looked much better than Mac has over the last 2 months.
•Zappe should be the starter for the rest of the season and the Patriots still need a new quarterback going forward
The only issue I take with making statements like this is that Zappe has played 4 games. He could walk out against the Chiefs fixing all the issues he has and then the statement "he is not consistent enough to be a starter" is blown out of the water.
Players are not static Madden ratings. Zappe isn't a "72 accuracy" that will never change. He is already better than where Mac was in year 3 so you can confidently say he has the tools to be play the game. I don't think it's a given he will develop but it's as stupid to shut him into a box as a player in his second year as it was to crown Mac a franchise QB since he was drafted.

Zappe is better than Mac and has allows been. But does Zappe have what it takes to be a TOP 10 NFL QB…no way…he’s about as good as a Tyron Taylor based on what he brings to a team in terms of value.
At this point a more confident QB is a better starter than Mac whose confidence has been shot and his trust with the staff diminished.

Hmm, if you're feeling too positive and want to even out, maybe an analysis on Mitch Trubisky. Maybe you can add a new short analysis like ESPN's old "C'mon Man!" of 10 minutes of why is this "QB of the week" is playing in the NFL, or as an ode to Jerry Glanville, call it NFL: Not For Long. Not necessarily in a dumpster fire sort of way, but an analytical way.
Nobody outside of this channel has even mentioned the fact that the steelers dropped 2 interceptions from Mac Jones-like throws, and caught the 3rd. I dont want to settle for this bum just because he isnt as bad as mac. 57 total yards for the offense in the 2nd half with an int.
O’Brien went ultra-conservative in the 2nd half as I think they decided to run clock rather than push the ball. Also the Steelers slept walked through the majority of the first half. The Steelers played really good defense in the 2nd half which is consistent with their MO. That’s exactly how they’ve won the majority of their games. But the Pats have a great defense of the their own and held on.
Agree 💯 he almost threw interceptions in the Chargers too but the ball was wet. And in this game he threw a bad one but Juju made a good play on it. Like yea Zappe can be ok sometimes but the hype from the little kid stans is ridiculous time to move on. What I don't understand is they hate on Mac for making a bad play but when Zappe does worse it's like they don't want to mention it and keep hating on Mac. Not once have I seen Zappe throw a 60yrd bomb. And that throw to Henry, Mac made that throw to Bourne few times long before. Zappe made one wild throw and Henry made an epic catch that we won't see again and everyone hypes it up saying it's Brady like game lol
@CoryD_85 exactly! That long touchdown to Henry was a terrible decision. If the steelers' defense was even halfway competent in that half of the game, that ball gets picked off. He's only started against awful defenses in his career, and the best he's been able to do is put one average half of football together before getting embarrassed by the other team. Just because one is bad, that doesn't mean the other one is good. These people are so spoiled and broken by having Tom Brady as the QB that they don't understand how the NFL actually works.

No one here wants to see no bailey zappe. the reason youre getting so much traction since last year is because of purdy. Most people trying to play highschool or college football arent gifted like the top 5 qbs. They see purdy and see hes using his brain and want to see how they can do that to make it to the next step in their football journey. @TheQBSchool
