    You’re 100% correct. On the fake toss TD, the play is designed for the throw to go to the wheel route. Todd Monken said even in practice, they’ve never hit Flowers there, that was just Lamar seeing it and letting it go

    • @cox316420
      @cox316420 5 месяцев назад +4

      Also, it is definitely taking advantage of the fact that you expect a good defense to know your tendencies. As a ravens fan who watches a lot of Ravens only content/analysis I know that when they come quick to the line, especially in short down and distance and/or goal to go situations you are extremely likely to see an unbalanced line with a run to that side. Also, from trips with the back to the same side you are going to see the exact run they fake, some kind of pin/pull/pitch. Pretty sure that is what they were banking on Bosa reacting to.

      He can throw, it's his mechanics that are a work in progress. Once his mechanics become 2nd nature he's going to be extremely dangerous. More intelligent playcalling will also help tremendously. Monken relies on Lamar to rescue his average playcalls way too often.

    On the second play you analyzed I think Lamar threw the ball behind him on purpose cause Number 7 would have lit him up if he threw it to him in stride. Probably further behind then he wanted it but I think he wanted Zay to sit down where he was. As a ravens fan, I know Lamar doesn’t like to throw hospital balls.

      Agreed it seems to be more just not being on the exact same page. Which honestly given that Flowers is a rookie, and first year of Monken offense is just going to happen in out of structure plays particularly when it wasn't an obvious sit or obvious continue situation. Both options would have worked it just seemed like Jackson expected the first and Flowers did the latter.

    At 40:09 I'll take a guess as to why Bosa doesn't rush the passer here. Note, this is just a guess, I havent watched enough of SF to be definitive on this.
    So because of the wacky alignment, Bosa, first sees the RB run the toss. Immediately notices the fake and looks inside to see Likely (80) running at him. Likely runs the wheel right behind the tackle (Ronnie Stanley, 79).
    So to Bosa, it looks more like a pulling guard coming at him, which is my guess as to why he's stuck in No Man's land. I am willing to take a guess that SF's rules for Pullers would be to box in and hit the puller with their inside shoulder. So the wheel essentially creates an influence block and really breaks SF's DL rules.
    If I'm wrong, I would love to hear why. Overall, this was a fantastic play design!

    @gnohms 5 месяцев назад +8

    The Ravens have been rotating their tackles the last few games, because they're banged up somewhat, and it keeps their best tackles fresh for the ends of games. So, yes, that is Ronnie Stanley, and he is usually the starting left tackle, but I couldn't tell you what position he was actually assigned at that point in the game.

  • @courtneythomas5295
    @courtneythomas5295 5 месяцев назад +8

    This film study really makes me question Todd Monkin as an OC this was a really great break down. I noticed so many route concepts that didn’t compliment one another … too many routes too close too one another. Lamar’s athleticism truly belled the offense out of so many situations. This is why he’s clearly the mvp making something out of nothing time after time. Thank you your excellent at your job.

    • @dk3105
      @dk3105 5 месяцев назад +2

      It’s been happening all season too.. reminds of Greg Roman concepts with more timing routes

    • @zactolson3938
      @zactolson3938 5 месяцев назад +7

      i think he's still adjusting; you can run *more* college concepts with Lamar and his escape ability, and this video does a good job of showcasing why that works; when Lamar escapes the pocket, you want options for him to find.
      I agree Monken isn't there yet, but he's already done something Roman never did; evolve. Adjust. The system is changing and improving week to week, and will continue, IMHO, to do so. He's not perfect, but he's doing a much better job of trying to make the absolute most of the players he has (look at how often we're running Likely on sits and routes that let him get YAC, compared to how we use Mandrews on bigger Jump Ball routes), rather than Roman's scheme of trying to use players to make the most of the scheme.

How many organizations would be capible of pulling this off around a player like lamar? And How often do teams see an offense like this per year?

    • @maggieliz1059

      Great observation. That's why AFC North teams (Bengals, Browns, Steelers), even though not as good as 49ers, have a better chance of winning against us. They play Lamar 2x per year. It may also explain why Lamar is 20 & 1 against NFC teams, they just are not ready for him, even with excellent guys like Fred Warner.

    Lamar throwing between 10 and 20 yards has a 141.8 passer rating, 1073 yards, 9 touchdowns, 0 interceptions and a 95.3 PFF grade. Best intermediate level passer in football.
    That is where they are at their best. Establish the run early. Use Lamar's threat as a runner to pull the LBs in and dump it over their head. All game long. When the safeties creep down to help, bomb it deep.

Before that, in the huddle, the QB told the team how long the center would wait (after being tapped) before hiking the ball. Usually 1, 2, or 3 seconds.

    as a 49ers fan it was annoying all of Lamar's batted passes fell harmlessly to the ground while Purdy's all seemed to land right into the arms of the defender. wouldnt mind another shot at this team. we out gained them in yards and had chances to steamroll them early. sometimes shit happens. would love to see a heavy does of Jordan Mason next time. run game was working for us

    • @maggieliz1059

      I believe Lamar had one or 2 batted passes, Purdy had 7 or 8 if you count the one where he got bumped from behind. That isn't "bad luck" or "flukes". Our D was coached to Rattle Purdy early and often. They played to the ball and played till the whistle - also COACHED. Otherwise Hamilton would not have gotten his 2nd pick after being pancaked. I'd love to see a 2nd matchup too, see if Shanahan comes up with more answers to Raven's awesome D. Lamar will always be the "X" factor, dude does stuff you can't coach, let alone defend.

    Thanks J.T. I feel a little better about Vic coming up with something to stop this offense. Keep Lamar from buying time and you have a chance. I think Miami at Baltimore might be a good game. Thanks again.

    I’m a Ravens fan, born from the Park Heights area, but I wish the Ravens would do more hitches, 7- yards curls or like Niners, get the ball to your play makers in short yards and let them gain extra. Ravens, everything seems 10-yards or deeper. That’s why Lamar is always scrambling.
