  • I got the new bunny cages from KW Cages and I'm super excited to get them built. I've put some links below for you. The cage clip (j-clip) pliers didn't come with the purchase of the cages, so I've linked the ones I got on amazon. I've also put the link for the KW Cages I purchases.

    Those KW cages look nice. Klubertanz sells heavy duty 14 gauge galvanized after weld rolls and all kinds of rabbit stuff. I am planning to build 8 cages for 2 bucks, 3 does and grow outs.

      I built my own cages before these ones and they did not hold up well (my own error using hardwire cloth instead of cage wire) and I didn’t want to go through the process of making my own again… so I just ordered the good stuff lol… now that I know better, should I expand my rabbitry, I may build my own again with better materials:)

      @@FarmGirlInProgress Cost is half as much or more buying the good cage wire rolls doing it your self, and longer lasting than pre-made expensive easy stuff. I like how you explain your ideas here, you make sense.

      @@tedlofland3446 you’re right, it’s always more expensive to buy something where the work is done for you. But sometimes the time saved is worth it. I don’t do that very often (almost never actually) and always try to build or make it myself with recycled/repurposed materials because it’s what I can afford most of the time. I’m glad I can share it here and help others do the same ☺️

    I bought an upgraded J-clip plier off Amazon and it makes such a difference for my hands!

    • @FarmGirlInProgress

      I really need to do that! The one I have is miserable, it does the job, but it does a number in my hands for sure!

      @@FarmGirlInProgress they are miserable!
      Have you gotten any KW Cages with the solid dividers yet? I really like them because they prevent stress caused by seeing another rabbit, especially for mamas, but I really struggle with putting them together on the bottom. Maybe I need to use hog rings instead?

    • @FarmGirlInProgress
      @FarmGirlInProgress  2 года назад

      @@loneheronhomestead7260 I haven’t gotten any solid divider cages yet. I have, however, made my own solid dividers for the males (they like to pee on each other 🤦‍♀️) I just secure the piece of roof flashing with zip ties. (I’ll be making a video of this soon) If i order more in the future I did want to get some solid divider ones and see if I like them. Hog rings may be a good option if the J clips aren’t working easily for you, or zip ties 🤷‍♀️ I find both are effective.

    I wouldn't recommend letting their paws go on the wire cages they can get sores on their paws and more but I would put a towel or blanket down for them

    • @FarmGirlInProgress
      @FarmGirlInProgress  2 года назад +1

      They each have a mat in their cage that they can lay on to get off the wire if they choose. Most of the time they don’t use them though. The bottoms of these cages are made with thicker wire and are much more comfortable on their feet.

    I added J clips on bottom also they hold stronger then the ones they use

    • @FarmGirlInProgress
      @FarmGirlInProgress  2 года назад +1

      I considered doing that, but ended up not because I wasn't sure if they sent me enough J clips to do the bottoms also. The rings they use are super sturdy, but I may overtime add the J clips as well

    Hey farm girl, did you go with the standard option on the floor for the kw cage?

    • @FarmGirlInProgress
      @FarmGirlInProgress  2 года назад +1

      Hey there! I went with the upgraded floor that’s a slightly larger gaged wire. My bunnies range from 8lbs to almost 13lbs. I wanted the extra thickness to support their weight better. So far I haven’t had any sagging in the cage floors.
