Hey everyone, I'm Nadine! Welcome! Here at Farm Girl In Progress, I share all of the progress I'm making on my little 2/3rds of an acre homestead in southwest Pennsylvania. It all started with chickens and a really big dream. Now that I am finally taking some pretty big steps towards that dream, I desire to share it with you guys! You don't need a big operation to grow and raise food for your family. All you need is faith, a little resourcefulness and you can do anything! The trick is remembering to do what you can, with what you already have, right where you are. The rest will blossom as you do! Come join me as I share my ups, my downs, the DIYs and the excitement of the journey. Let's grow where we are planted together!
Rabbitry Demo - Day 2

How I Planned My Cut Flower Rows & Planting
You should never trim rabbits teeth like this! They can shatter at the root and cause infection and further issues. This should be done by a veterinarian and the teeth should be burred down rather than trimmed
@@mollykatrina1349 yes, I agree, highly recommend a dremel tool vs hog trimmers for that very reason, but at the time this is what I had. I do not have a small animal vet in my area so I have to do most of these things on my own or put the animal down. Which we ended up doing because his teeth progressively got worse over time and his quality of life decreased significantly. But I agree, a dremel is much better and I recommend that to anyone commenting on this video
It's goats, right? 👀 It's gotta be goats. First chickens, then bunnies, next step is goats 😂 Whatever it may be used for, I absolutely love the redesign 👏 it's looking beautiful!

Guessing another greenhouse or for flower pots /display/growing. Back of the unit 100% rain gutter and rainwater collection.
@@TheWickerShireProject all are super great guesses! Love the rain gutter and catchment idea! Definitely will be doing this! Though, maybe next year lol
Newish to the bunny world bud our vet has just advised us PomPom has malocclusion and has stated teeth should be removed at a cost of $1000….! Is it time to find a different vet ?
@@jjcglasgow you can definitely go the route of having the teeth removed if they continue to cause problems, rabbits can so really well without their front teeth, but it is really expensive. Or you can grind their teeth with a dremel tool (I recommend this over the hog teeth trimmers as it will smooth down the teeth and not splinter them) you can do that once a week for the rest of the rabbits life

Try pre-drilling the holes before screwing the wood together, it usually helps to stop the wood from splitting. Good job though.
@@Holditon183 thank you! I usually do that if I know the wood is going to split, I didn’t know until I tightened the screws all the way down unfortunately. Can' wait to see the finished tractor. I have had one planned with wheels to roll it, 2'x4' plastic sections made specifically for the above ground walk on bottom instead of wire injuring the chickens feet. Bull wire to keep predator's from tearing into it. I want chickens for eggs mainly and some poultry meat but I prefer domestic home grown rabbit meat because you can grow 700 lbs. of rabbit meat a year with 2 bucks and 2 does. If you sell the rabbit hides, lucky rabbit feet and young rabbits for pets, or pure breed rabbits you can basically end up doing it for free rabbit meat for your family.
@@TL50-r9f I keep chickens mostly for eggs, I raise, as of right now, one small batch of meat birds each year just to supplement our grocery bill… I also raise rabbits for meat, but I don’t know how to tan the hides… I might have to learn! Especially if there is a market for them… I haven’t had much luck with selling them for show or pets so they mostly just end up in my freezer, so I’ve slowed down on my breedings
Looks good. Nice to see a video from you.

@@ODGROW you’re welcome! It’s served me well for multiple purposes!
I made my bucket nests about 7 years ago. I used 10 buckets 5 on top and 5 on the bottom with perches in front. I used a dry wall screw inside each bucket to attach it to the wall. After having it finished and full of straw the hens preferred only one or two of the buckets and the rest remain unused till this day. I also have used old kitchen sinks, the double kind currently and they fight over that as well. I can't win. I love my hens anyway.
@@davidbarrera308 haha, sounds about right! Mine have 12 total to choose from and they faithfully only use 4 of them 🤦♀️ silly hens
What did you hold the wood down onto the frame with?
@@amandashaffer-k8p I ended up using U bolts and zip ties
Thanks for the detailed videos! I have found them helpful 😊 I successfully trimmed all our bunnies nails after watching you handle yours. Only the first one got me with her back feet bc I relaxed for a second lol. It’s her trademark move though lol! Thinking of renaming her wolverine 😂 These are our first rabbits and there’s been a huge learning curve. Do you have tips and recs for getting the rabbits more used to handling? How do people have rabbits that just sit there with ease? Is there an age that’s best to start with bc even the babies tear me up 🤷♀️ Thanks again!
Hi, i have the same issue with my bunny. She's 6 yo now and it's the first time that this happened. I am taking her to the vet because I don't know how to trim her teeth without doing damage. I wanted to ask if this is purely a genetic problem, or is it because of age? Or can bad nutrition or an unhealthy diet cause this as well? My bunny tends to like sugary snacks too much and often avoids pellets or hay, and I don't know how to convince her to eath more of it, I've tried to cut out snacks..im not sure if it helps?
@@neversaynever997997 hey there! So malocclusion can be caused by several factors, genetics being a big one, but also diet, trauma (like injuries) or infection. If your bunny is preferring more snacks to her hay or pellets I would cut that out completely. Snacks aren’t necessary, but chewing hay is. Without enough roughage they can’t grind down their teeth properly. Taking her to the vet is a great start, this will help rule out any other possibilities. But I would definitely stop feeding snacks for a while and see if that helps. Prayers your way for good results!
@@FarmGirlInProgress thanks a lot for the advice! Hopefully she will be fine, I will definitely cut out any sugary treat in the future.
@@neversaynever997997 you’re welcome! Let me know how she’s doing!

@@Littleraptorland you’re welcome!
Hi, I have just come accross your you tube on the hen feeder. We have made one but our hens aren't using it ! Any tips on how to get your hens into using the new feeder, please ?
@@clivedobson absolutely! So I started by removing any other form of feeder, making the new buckets all they had to get feed from. Then, I made sure to show a few of them how it worked. Hold them in front of the toggles and make sure they see the feed fall out of it when the toggles get moved. Do that a couple times until they get the idea before moving on to the next chickens Chickens are very smart, my whole flock had it down pat in about two days after showing maybe 5 how to do it. You can also spray paint the toggles red. Chickens see red very vibrantly and is often associated with food, so they’re more likely to peck at it. I hope this helps! Let me know how it goes!
Thank you for the videos. I'm sorry it didn't work out for Tweety. I have a keet with a similar issue. Could I ask what the worsening issues were that led to putting Tweety down? I'm nervous about what's coming next for ours.
@@PreachingwithPerry for Tweety, she just didn’t get better and the bigger she got the more of a problem the leg became. Her quality of life continued to decrease and that just didn’t seem fair to us. We gave it our best to correct the situation, but it just didn’t get better 🤷♀️
@@FarmGirlInProgress Looks like we may be heading that way too. This incubation stuff is hard on the heart. Thank you for your post and replies.
Beautiful. Love your calm voice.
I had no idea! I'm so sorry 😫
My chicks is twisted completely out basically backwards she removes any bandages I put on her and slides her leg around I feel like she is suffering but she is a fighter idk how to help her
Couldn’t have ran large head screws in the bottom of the buckets to hold them onto the wooden wall ?
I could have, but I didn’t have any large head screws and the wall is only about half an inch thick, so it wouldnt hold very well over time. So this worked better in the long run
A dry wall screw will do the trick.
