@OddBawZ Answer on Italy's situation with low tier is pretty simple - Gaijin is inconsistent. They gave italians a 20mm round with 64mm penetration so vehicles with 20mm Scotti and Breda autocannons sat higher then ones with 47/32 guns. Then they decided to take away that round die to "historical inaccuracies"(who added it in the first place, huh?), cutting the penetration on those guns from 64mm to 44+mm akin to Hispano and "fixed" low BR by heavily uptiering vehicles with 47/32 and 47/40 guns. Guns which themselves are barely researched by Gaijin, but unsurprisingly into the opposite direction(47/40 gun has mentions of penetration numbers upwards of 100mm, which isn't surprising as it's a version of Bohler gun with drastically increased case length>propellant charge>velocity>kinetic energy, which makes it closer to 47mm czech and french AT guns, you'd find on Panzerjager I and Lorraine 37L). All in all it's a mess. But you've seen the better part of it. For worst? Go play M15/42:(
Really makes me think how many drivers came back changed men, just to beat up their kids and wife, introducing intergenerational trauma into a country for the next century.
Also you have to factor for industrial limitations, they didn't need tank destroyers and when they were rolling off the assembly lines ww2 hadn't started or they were squaring off against tankettes and cavalry.
It's got little to do with doctrine and more to do with Italy's social and industrial situation at the time. Italy was still reeling from WW1, which had proved costly to both resources and manpower, and most of that manpower suffered from high illiteracy and a lack of skilled labor training and experience who mostly came from agrarian backgrounds outside of the major cities, not exactly the foundations for an effective workforce. On top of this, Italy also had a very limited automobile industry, which not only meant that there weren't many factories capable of producing military vehicles, but also not many workers who were experienced with creating cars and trucks, much less far more mechanically sophisticated and industry-intensive tanks. Add to that the fact that Italian industry was, in general, an absolute shambles - for instance the reason why the relatively new and small Breda-SAFAT company was responsible for most of Italy's machine gun production, and for some of the worst firearms produced during the war, was because a failed deal by Ferrari's weapons manufacturing division and a series of subsequent failed lawsuits saw Ferrari sell Breda their weapons division for peanuts out of sheer _spite_ - and you can see why they struggled so hard. All this is why so many Italian vehicles in WW2 are either extremely simple and small tracked vehicles, like the L3 tankette or the Semovente da 47/32, or guntrucks and armored cars. Italy simply didn't have the industry to fight a lengthy war. To their credit, Mussolini knew this, but was caught off guard in the middle of trying to yoink a couple of their old African holdings back when, in 1941, Hitler dragged Italy into a six-way global conflict.
Fun fact, the gun was called an Elefantino, t'was pretty much the main AT gun of the Italians and the vehicle had at least 2 other version, 1 with a central .50cal and 1 with only lmg's.
Not super relevant but I wanted to share; got a nuke yesterday evening in an Ostwind II at 7.3. one vehicle I really hate is the swedish L-62 ANTI II, 79 mm of pen on a spaa is nuts
