  • We visit Valley Helicopters in Hope, British Columbia, to get a closer look at the company's helicopter operations and how it's grown over the last four decades.
From one man and one Bell JetRanger in 1985, Valley Helicopters grew slowly to its present-day 18 staff members and eight Bell helicopters, including four 206Bs, one 206 L4, two 407s, and one 429 -- which joined the fleet in the spring of 2023. The new Bell 429 is being used for utility operations, and is one of the only 429s in Canada to do so.
The company does a wide range of work, from utilities and construction, natural resource support and emergency services, to avalanche control, heli skiing and tours. Valley Helicopters' operations are guided by the needs of its customers. The company often gets short-notice calls for rockslides, search-and-rescue, firefighting, avalanches, and emergencies, and must operate among B.C.'s challenging terrain -- sometimes in extreme conditions.
